  • Jarvis Walker Comet 6FT Light Spinning Combo

If you’re a junior angler or you’re a novice to the sport it can often be difficult, if not daunting, to try and pick out the kind of tackle that you need. On the one hand, you want to get tackle that is of a high enough quality that it gives you an accurate depiction of what the sport can offer you – as with all sports, if you experience sun-standard equipment you’re never going to get the full enjoyment that the sport can offer you. On the other, you don’t want to break the bank by splashing out on top quality tackle only to discover that you prefer a different area of the sport or that it isn’t quite the right equipment for your needs. This can make taking up fishing off-putting to some, as the amount of research that you have to put in before you even get onto the bank is extensive. However, this is where brands like Jarvis Walker come in.

Jarvis Walker was established in Australia way back in 1946 by Jarvis ‘Jim’ Walker. Jim was an avid angler, but he knew that it was a luxury sport which was unattainable for a large number of Australians. This upset Jim and he wanted to share his own enjoyment of angling with the masses – Jarvis Walker was born! The brand initially specialised in sea fishing but has since diversified into all areas of the sport. It has also transformed from a local Australian brand into one of the biggest tackle companies in the world, supplying products to anglers around the world. However, once thing hasn’t changed since the brand’s initial conception – it’s dedication to manufacturing tackle for the novice angler, as well as the angler on a budget.

This Jarvis Walker Comet 6ft Light Spin Combo is the perfect example of the Jarvis Walker ethos. Not only is this rod and reel combination accessible to anglers on all budgets but it is also of a high build quality, ensuring that it paints an accurate picture of what spin fishing feels like. This makes it the ideal setup for the beginner and junior angler. This rod and reel combination is suitable for a huge range of spin fishing activities, too, allowing you to experiment with the sport and try out all the variations in order to find the area where you find the most enjoyment. This combination is perfect for bait fishing, as well as for spinning with lures. It is also suitable for both freshwater and estuary fishing, allowing you to target a huge range of waters in the UK.

The Jarvis Walker Comet 6ft Light Spin Combo boasts a tubular rod blank, ensuring that it is durable enough to accommodate a range of potential catches. As the name suggests, this rod is 6ft in length. This makes it ideal for the junior angler, as it is slightly smaller than the average spinning rod. It also makes it an excellent choice for the angler who enjoys spin fishing from a boat, as the short length makes it easier to handle on smaller vessels. The rod has a gripped handle, too. This ensures that you are never at risk of loosing your grip if you’re faced with a hard take from an aggressive predator. The reel operates on a ball bearing drive, which keeps the reel running smoothly throughout its life – no matter the opponent it has t face up to! Not only this, but the reel is also pre-spooled with line. This means that you don’t have to worry about purchasing the correct strain of line before you’ve even caught a fish and it also ensures that you don’t have to worry of achieving perfect line lay during your first session on the bank.

  • To be honest these look absolute trash.

Hard to beat at that price though, $12 each.

I bought up when I could get Sienna reels for $25 each, and then rods for about $30 of various Shimano models + a spool of braid from Aldi and some leader you're looking at about $80. The difference will be light and day.

    • How can get a Sienna reel for only $25?
