I assume these are grey market and therefore Apple Australia won't touch them?

    • Apple warranty is worldwide so won't matter if you bought them in china, usa or anywhere.

BTW Extra warranty is useless, won't cover if the battery dies after 12 months cause that's classified as wear and tear. And Apple are very lenient with some of the claims you guys make if it is against the warranty.
Also Apple has excellent customer care my friend dropped his iphone and the screen cracked he went to the Apple store told them he dropped it, he was honest and they replaced it for FREE (refurb of course) I was amazed.

      • Actually, Apple warranty is worldwide, but for the iPhone 4S it does kind of matter where you get it looked at.. (actually.. it probably doesn't matter so much now, but..) let me elaborate.
The iPhone 4S was only launched in certain countries on Oct 14th. Although warranty is worldwide, if you went to China to get your phone looked at, they couldn't do anything for you because the 4S hadn't been released yet (hence they didn't have the necessary parts, etc). Now it has been released, it is no longer an issue.

Wear and tear is covered under the APPLE warranty. Physical damage and liquid damage are not. So, if the battery dies between 12 months and 24 months, it is covered.
Whether this is covered under Kogan's 3 years or 5 years warranty, I don't know.

          "
4.2 To the full extent permitted by law, but subject always to clause 4.1, the Standard Warranty and Extended Warranty will not apply in respect of a Product:

          (h) To replacement or repair of any consumables (including batteries, projector lamps and cables), or lost parts or accessories;"

USELESS KOGAN warranty. Read the entire thing and make an informed decision buyers. But IMO it's useless 79 bucks for 3 years and they won't even change the battery for you if it dies after 12 months. You can easily pay apple roughly less than 79 dollars to replace it, buy which time most people would have moved on to the iPhone 5, 5S, 6 or 6S etc.

        • I get what you are trying to say. But even if you had warrantee from Australia and you were in China, it would not have been fixed either way in China if it was not released there. So warantee is practically the same international wide.

Will only ship after iPhone 5 release

Kidding, but feels like Kogan could do something like this.

  • While, if I buy directly from apple and claim GST back when travel to oversea can make it even cheaper?

    • +1

Yes, but not everyone buys a phone and then choose to travel overseas.

      • Only the tightest OzBargainers do this - and by tightest I mean most skillful :)

        • tightest OzBargainers are too tight to travel overseas :p

        • +1

The tightest OzBargainers would travel overseas via points they obtained by signing up to heaps of promotions. :P

  • Derp. For a second I read the (Black) in the title as Bricked. Had to do a double take.

Has anyone had any thoughts about which plan they would sign up to if they bought this phone?

On my calculations the $758 works out to be about $31 per month for 24 months and then even with a $20 TPG plan, it works out at roughly $51 per month (which is not much cheaper than the telstra plans - with the better network coverage…)

    any thoughts?

    • +1

$15.99 LiveConnected Plan is good.. 2gb billed per kb…

      • thanks!

        • That's Optus if I remember correctly.

    • This calculation is not as simple

if you op for telstra there is almost no question that u are better off by signing up to a plan. Telstra design their plan that way to make signing a contract with them more attractive. Bear in mind you always has to compare similiar handset to a similar carrier (in terms of quality). So compareing telstra with voda and optus and also not fare as quality of signal is very different.

Buying outright seens worthwhile with the unlimited plans. It is much cheaper to buy a outright phone and put a redbull sim or TPG infinite sim into an off plan phone.
