    Good Schnit!

    • Schnit happens

  • +6

Is that just a schitty or a parma?

    Promo landing page is confusing

    https://www.thebavarians.com/event/schnitty-fest-2/

    • +13

      It’s a bit schnitty isn’t it.

    • +1

Says $10 but all options are $24+

      • Very confusing

        • +1

          $10 every Wednesday.

        • +8

Called them up and can confirm it is $10 for all the flavours listed. Can also confirm it is for dine in only, no takeaway =(

    • +2

All 10 choices for $10 on Wednesdays

    • -1

It's not a parma regarless, Parmy bro

  • Damn. Site is blocked on my work PC!
I'll check it out later. I never knew there was 1 at Charlestown. I miss the Germania Club.

    • Site is blocked on my work PC!

They don't want you to eat ???

      • Most sites are blocked, fortunately not OzBargain.

        • -7

Do you work for the KGB ?

          • @jv: Close. ;)

            • @BewareOfThe Dog: Oh… You work for Dan…

              • @jv: Not quite.

              • @jv:

                Oh… You work for Dan…

Careful, a lot of very sensitive people here. Don't criticise Dictator Dan or the Peoples Repulic of Victoria

        • Do they block your phone?

    • My work blocked a restaurant’s menu due to “bottomless brunch” I wouldn’t have even had the thought but now it’s ruined the concept of bottomless to me!

      https://www.henriettachicken.com/

    • Phone's fine

    • Our schnitty at Charlestown was crap - greasy, crap chips, some green salad off.

      City Fest (south park)

  • +15

We visited Knox about a week ago … food (wings) and (lack of) service were such that we left and went to the pub over the road.
Don't think we'll bother going back even for the above deal.

    • +3

Had a similar experience at the Tuggerah one. Food was average and service was non existent.

    • +3

Similar experience in SA when they hosted a wings night and I believe NRL finals. Overall horrible experience with service and food. Can't say I'll be going back.

      • +18

Would you say you had Schnitty service.

        • -2

I definitely had a schnitty experience at the TTP Bavarian. Went back in April during (Un)Happy Hour. Except all the German beers were not included and there is no disclaimer - so false advertising. The schnitzels were okay for $10 no where near $24+ value.

          Won't go back again.

          • +1

@L45TPH45E: This deal seems like a load of schnit.

          • @L45TPH45E:

The schnitzels were okay for $10 no where near $24+ value.

You paid $10 and complain that you didn't get $24 worth?

      • +7

They hosted a wings night and I believe NRL finals

Was Paul McCartney there or was it a cover band ???

    • +2

Thanks, will definitely avoid this place in future.

    • +3

We went on opening night, never been to a place that will sell you a stein but doesn't have a toilet on site. Ridiculous

    • +3

Same at Chermside a few months ago. Service was terrible (food came out late, or not at all). You were forced to order through your phone online and pay the 11.5% surcharge for doing so. Their range of beers was terrible, pretty much all lagers and half of them unavailable.

The pub down the road does better food for better prices and has a better range of beers on tap - and it's just a Woolworths pub!

  • +8

Food is average, but $10 is good value.

I love having no service, you just tap your phone on the NFC reader, order from the menu, pay for it and they bring it out to you.
I wish all restaurants did this. I hate waiting for waiters

    • So good.

      • tap your phone on the NFC reader

is there some special detail i am missing?

        • +1

You order from your table, either use the NFC reader or scan the QR code. It's good that they have this because the service is very poor otherwise.

    • Our local has no mobile coverage so they give you their free unsecured wifi to order and pay on your phone. Told them no thanks, so we ordered the old fashioned way.

  • +2

Bavarian has gone down the drain since Rockpool put all their hands on it a few years ago unfortunately.

    • +2

Defiantly gone downhill the case however I wouldnt say its "Rockpools" fault. It looks to me that the strategy for the Bavarian changed, igoing from what I'd call premium to a more casual eateriey that now appears at lots of shopping centers etc where there needs to be a high volume of customers. Hence the menu has changed from what as almost exclusively Bavarian fare to now having very few Barvarian meals, lots of burgers, wings etc.

  • no WA?

    • Is there a Bavarian branch in WA?

  • +2

I miss the good old days when they had 50% offer on the total bill. I used to buy a signature tasting platter for myself, take the rest home and eat for 1-2 weeks.

    • That would have been awesome.

  • Oh no WA. Oh well.

    • There is no Bavarian venue here…

  • +1

I don't get it. The landing page says $10 schnitzels but all the options are $24+.

    • +2

I'm guessing those prices are if you want those options on a day other than Wednesday.

      • Confusing because the introductory paragraph, which is about the $10 schnitzel Wednesdays, talks about the flavours you can get and then the flavours are listed with prices that are not $10. I think the page just needs a bit of rewrite / reorganisation

        • +1

Agree. Also is it a select one of those flavours every Wed, or all are available every Wed for that price?

          • +2

@djkelly69: Or is it that a plain schnitty is $10 but lists all flavours you can get for +$$

  • +2

I read it that you can pick any Shnitty for $10 on Wednesdays. The normal price is displayed to show how much of a bargain youre getting

  • can i call them to order and pick up for take away?

    • Available for a limited time only – Dine-in only.

    • They make their money on the drinks.

  • +2

Lots of bad experiences, still 42 upvotes.

  • +9

Alright, so I wanted to see how it works and wanted a cheap lunch so I went to my local (York St).

All the parmie types are available for $10.

    • Has your food arrived?

      What's the verdict?

      • It did come but a bit of a wait (15 minutes or so).

For $10 I'm not complaining. At least it's better than Rashay's.

      • Lol I went to York St too. Was pretty good for $10 - the wait was also around 10-15 min but that's really good considering it was fairly busy for lunch hour

  • +1

    1) does chips come with it?

    2) are we able to use our NSW Dine & Discover vouchers for this promotion?

    • 1) depends on which schnitty you order, some come with chips, some come with potato salad etc - read the menu.

      2) i had to order through the online system which doesn't accept d&d

      • +4

Interesting, never considered paying with Dungeons & Dragons

      • Really? My local Bavarian is eligible for the Dine and Discover voucher when I looked it up on the govt website. Seems dodgy

  • Isn't that a normal price you would get from all pubs?

    • +4

Pub prices are now like $20-$30 nowadays sadly

    • Yes most pubs offer a $10 schnitzel special. Quality is good, the portion sizes are very generous at my local and you can choose chips/salad or mash/veg.
I don't bother with those pubs that charge restaurant prices for meals.

      • +2

Can you offer some suggestions? I try to head to a new pub every week and most places charge 25 plus for a Parma. 15 to 20 on Parma night sometimes with a pot can't remember any more than 1 10 dollar Parma. This is in inner Melbourne.

        • -2

What is a parma? do you mean parmy?

      • Most pubs where exactly? Haven't seen too many $10 schnitzels going around since, oh, 2005.

        • Either prices in Melbourne are much higher or you're not looking hard enough. I see it quite regularly around Sydney. The one 5 minutes from me is 2 for $20 for members only (free to join).

          • @nubzy: Beer prices are definitely higher, so maybe it’s the “pot-‘n’-a-parma” combined price. Or maybe schnittys are just dearer there too

  • what does it mean 10 SCHNITZELS, max order?

    • +18

If your name is Max, you must order 10.

  • How big are the schnitzels, hope not cut in half the size for half price?

    • Don't expect Goni's for this price.

  • +2

Similar to what someone above said about the Knox branch:
Been there twice in the last month or so, and pretty unimpressed both times. Had been a handful of times pre-COVID and really liked it. So definitely looks like an active turn away from greatness. Food was great, now meh. Drinks (cocktails) were also amazing, now watered/iced down and barely feel like there's any alcohol at all, so great work on selling us expensive children's drinks full of ice.

Definitely won't be going back any time soon. The Sporting Globe which is very near The Bavarian at Knox would be a much better time.

    • +1

      Heard similar from friends.

To be honest, Knox in itself is deteriorating with Westfield's management and I can see a decline in patronage at the ozone dining area. Real shame because it could have been similar to a good evening hub like the Glen but with more western cuisine options.

      • Westfield has done a decent job with Doncaster. I checked out the new rooftop dining precinct and it was pretty nice with a range of options.

        • +1

Yeah they seem to get the dining vibe alright!

How's the parking situation there? I remember it being a mess and the time restrictions being a big deterrent. Haven't been since I've moved to Sydney.

  • I can see the page states for dine in only - anyone in Brisbane (or QLD) attempted to order for takeaway? Kinda hard to dine in right now…

    • Google says its closed

  • Eagle St in Brisbane CBD is closed due to lockdown :(

    • +1

It's for the best. If you want German then go to the German club. The Bavarian has gone way down hill.

      • For $10 I will give it a try :)

  • Bugger just as QLD is going into lockdown…

  • @OP, the phrase is 'age old' not 'old age' on the deal page.

  • +1

Not bad for $10 but had to wait around 40 mins for the meal to arrive. Probably do it on purpose to get you to buy drinks which are very expensive. Had a $5 sour apple schnapps.

    • 40min wait??

they should Pay ME to go dine there..

  • -4

Too many thumb sucking, entitled sooks who need to stay home wrapped in bubble wrap for the rest of their lives.

Leave the feasting to rest of us who know true value when they see it.

Offf those pictures definitely show you get what you pay for 😂

  • +2

Been to the Entertainment Quarter one, and ate there due to lack of time and options. The schnitzel was beyond mediocre. Wouldn't even pay $10 for it.

  • Is this deal lunch only?
