Amazing system if you don't need wifi 6. Almost impossible to find an add on RBS50 satellite though.

    • Good feedback was not aware of that

      • Yeah I can agree with OP. I found out that we needed another satellite today and I haven't been able to find one for less than $300

    • Yep this things worth $200 tops when you cant even buy additional satellites. Wish i never bought mine.

      • isn't two enough? How big is your house?

    • I was lucky enough to get an extra RBS50 satellite just before Christmas for $230 from Amazon UK.. hadn't seen any deals come up before that one though.

For those with GGs commercial access is $427

But if i was spending this kind of money i would got the TP link x60 3 pack for $424

    • I was thinking the same but reviews were not that great, atleast at the time. Firmware maybe improved since.

$409.35 w/free delivery at Amazon (via Harris Tech), or go to Officeworks and get them to pricebeat the Amazon AU price ($413.35) and make it $392.68. OW won't match Amazon 3rd party, but will match Amazon AU price (I got mine this way from the Bondi OW store).

    You're welcome.

I had these early on when they came out, absolutely brilliant…..

Went back to them recently, with 2 RBS20s in the mix. Nothing but issues.

Adding satellites was nothing but troublesome, even found myself contacting Netgear support on the phone to discuss it. So many weird problems with that. They also insist they only give support for a few months…
Firmware would never update unless reset and forcing each individual unit.
Could never walk around the house and switch seamlessly like I could before and could easily with Google Wifi. Everytime my phone would cut and switch or not even switch at all unless I turned wifi on and off.

3 of my devices were connected via ethernet, the app never consistently said as such, also reguarly thought my Google Nest speakers and Nest alarms were connected via ethernet along with most other devices reporting incorrect connection types.

But hey, they have Disney crap integrated now! so glad they are focusing on what matters…. /s

Only switched back to them after Google Wifi had a particularly bad firmware update and I wasn't going to take the chance…. shame I ended up going back anyway…. along with a failed experience with 4 Asus XT8s.

TLDR, go somewhere you can return them, or be prepared to take a hit on a resale incase you have bad luck.

I have 1 x RBR50 (router) and 3 x RBS50s (satellites). They are working perfectly around the house. All are wirelessly connected, no wired backhaul. Have had this setup for over a year now. No going back to standard APs for me.

My brother just bought the same setup with 1 x extra satellite. Again, working well.

Maybe your issue was due to the mix of RBS20s?

      • Edit

      • Who knows, maybe you are right.

I needed Ethernet backhaul in my situation. That caused a tonne of issues early on.

      • how big is your house to need 4 units?

I was thinking about getting one and just using the two it comes with but from the comments apparently the coverage is not great.

        • Double story narrow long town house.

Need 1 on each end top and bottom.

I've found a single Google Wifi router actually has significantly less wifi coverage then even my Telstra modem. Mesh devices really need to be paired with multiple such is how week they are on their own.

I've read many of their sq metre coverages and it's pretty ordinary. And in a long house, I can't get stable wifi in a room barely 10m away through a couple of walls.

      • Where did he buy the extra satellite from? You cant get them.

    • I've had one with a single satellite for years, and no dramas. Updated the firmware on the weekend, no issues (not always the case with Netgear).

Also, the Disney Circle stuff has been around for years as well, it's not new.

      • Yeah I know, it wasn't there on launch.

I do think adding the extra devices was most likely my issue.

        • I'd have thought the 20 would work with it OK, but who knows?

            @mickeyjuiceman: You'd think that.

Either way, wasn't as seemless as running just the pair. Atleast in my experience.

    • I agree with you there as I kept getting ethernet drop out issues.

    • Had some weird backhaul issues with wired gigabit (thick concrete slab between them so wireless wasn't an option) and disabled Daisy Chain Topology and haven't had any issues since.

Thanks, I did see and try that without luck.

For only $84 more you can get the RBK752 AX4200 Wi-Fi 6 Orbi system from TGG commercial. I’d be going that If buying new now. I have an RBK50 and love it and can’t justify upgrading yet. But if buying now, spend the extra little bit and future proof yourself for a fair while.

  • Cheaper elsewhere(see comments above) as well as Mwave https://www.mwave.com.au/product/netgear-orbi-rbk50-ac3000-t…?

  • it looks like a flower vase. It's huge too right?

    I have an Rbr50, 2 x rbs50, 1 x rbr50 flashed to rbs50, and 1 x rbs50y.

Covers 1.1acres, including large concrete filled sandstone and block house, a 21 x 6m shed, a 6 x 3m portable building and an external block garage converted to media room.

A few dodgee firmware upgrades and a pos Android app aside, they've been great.

About 120 devices at any given time, along with 3 hue bridges and a number of zigbee devices all in the same buildings.

    • +1

      I've got a very similar setup; 1 x RBR50, 1x RBS50, 1xRBR40 flashed as RBS40.

I am having problems with distance on the AC of course, but have more area to cover (5+ acres)

I've just thrown in a high gain Unifi 2.4ghz unit outside of the mesh to reach the front and side gates.

  • Netgear firmware is absolute crap, have had constant issues with it and wireless mesh. I would not be spending this amount of money on this kit, personally. Could get a business-grade router+switch and some decent access points for the same price.

Just jumping in on the positive comments. Had this set for a year, no additional satellites.

To get an idea of the coverage, my base router is transmitting around ten meters or so then through two internal walls, an external brick wall, then twenty metres to an external granny flat where the included satellite is placed in a window. Has Worked flawlessly since the first day, with no issues at all.

If these broke i would immediately purchase again with no hesitations.

  • Used to be cheaper…
I bought mine for $320 a while back and sold it for $420 later because it wasn't good enough. Switched to nest wifi…

    • +1

We went from nest to this, has been a good improvement for us (double brick including interior).

    I have 2 setups:
RBR50 and 2 satellites, RBS50 and RBW30 in non-daisy chain, gyprock walls, 2 storey, no issues.
RBR50 and 2 satellites, RBS50 and RBS40 in daisy chain covering over 30m length, all brick internal walls and 2 storey, no issues.
Lucky enough to buy the extra satellites 2nd hand and cheap.

  • Anybody else has to restart the router every 2-3 days to connect to VPN server?
