Bought this yesterday. I would say its a good deal. Saw few deals around the same price for GTX 1660 ti but this one has RTX 2060.

While it's lacking in performance per dollar, pretty good if thin and light is a top priority.

Looks like thermal-throttling horror to me!

^ This comment needs more upvotes! On paper stats are nice, but this thing is going to cook itself and performance will suffer.

        • I’ve been using it for half a year so far working great recently finish Cyberpunk with it as well

I had a Blade 14 about four years ago, and it was terrible. Looked great on paper and in person, but was a garbage machine. Fans were insanely loud all the time, and performance crashed because it got so hot.

        • just curious, do you mind share which one is your current model?

          • +1

@Ozsaver88: At the time replaced it with an ASUS something (jumble of letters, can’t remember what specifically).

It had similar CPU and GPU (an i7 and GTX 1060) and a 4K display, build wasn’t as nice nor as thin as the Blade, but it wasn’t a noisy piece of crap, so I guess it depends what’s important to you.

I did consider it but I have heard the build quality is not great on this one and does not state the refresh rate.

      • Looking at uncle harvey's model number, I believe it is 144hrtz refresh rate. I also think the Nitro is better value too.

        • A laptop is something you will have to stick with for years. Id much rather pay extra couple of hundred dollars to get a machine with nice build quality

The Razer Blade's are amazing machines,
I have the razer blade 15 advanced with 2070 and the razer blade 17 advanced with 2080 super. (I have two so I can stream on one, play on the other, with no performance impact)
The 2080 super actually performs so well, you almost dont need a desktop. I am a FPS fan so high FPS is key. I normally get over 144 fps in COD MW with it.
Both get very hot under load, but I have never noticed thermal throttling. Fans are very loud under load.
I have no idea how the 2060 would perform, but personally would recommend the 2080 super any day.

Wireless1 currently has a sick deal on the 2080 super 4k 17" model for $3099.
If I didnt already have two blades already, I would be all over it

These laptops are amazing! I was looking for something around $2k. The build quality and the design is one of the main reasons I bought it.

    • Hi, can I ask have you been able to drive 2 monitors from the Blade's thunderbolt port, if you use a dock? There are lots of mixed comments online about whether the blade can handle 1 or 2 monitors through that port.

      • +1

Hey I cant tell you unfortunately, but can tell you that it has full HDMI output also, so have been able to do 2 external monitors with 1 thunderbolt and 1 hdmi>
Ive never used a dock personally.

        • Thanks!

    • Yeh I have ordered one of these. Seems to be a great deal! Just hope it doesn't turn into a bad investment after 6 months or so. Have read some reviews where things start to wrong after 6 months such as the touch screen stopped working etc or the screen itself not working.

Lady from Wireless1 sent me an email saying that I really shouldn't buy the Razor as it is quite dated (2020, not that long ago) and that I should get something like the new Asus TUF A15 with a ryzen 5800H/RTX3070. I'm not an avid gamer though and this machine will mainly be used for work/study, so I don't think that that will be an issue for me. I'm sure the 2080 super will be more than enough for my needs.

Have been wondering over the weekend if I made the right decision, and that I should have got a laptop with a ryzen cpu and 3060/3070, but since you rate it so highly this looks like a pretty awesome machine for the money!

      • Ive had many different brands in the past few years, Dell XPS, Gigabyte Aero, Venom Blackbook, MSI Leopard, Macbook Pro, Macbook Air.
The Razer Blades are the BEST machines I have ever used. Closest to it was the Macbook Pro, but obviously the macbook pro didnt compete with the blade performance-wise. Razer blade is like the macbook of the pc world.
The best touch pad of any pc laptop ever used, similar to the amazing apple touch pad.
Being black, fingerprints show alot :(
If you take care of your laptop, it will last years and be playing the latest titles.
The blade 17 is the best choice IMO as it has a spare m.2 SSD drive and expandable memory which can run 3200mhz. also has a sd card reader.
Yeah this machine was the BEST laptop you could get just a few months ago.
        You will bloody love it.

        • I haven't received my laptop yet but am just wondering if I made the right decision. I'm just wondering if 4k is really necessary for a 17inch laptop? Do you have the 17 pro laptop with the 4k touch screen?

From watching reviews on youtube, it does seem to be very glossy. I'm just wondering if this is because of the touch screen? Are the screens on the base models and mid-tier models as glossy?

Someone commented on a review that they returned the 4k version due to the reflections on the screen. They said it was too distracting. Is it more glossy than your typical gloss screen laptop? Personally, id rather have an anti-glare type screen.

          • @mella060: Hey mate,

I personally have the FHD one, but wished it was the 4k one.
Wireless1 had a similar sale of the FHD version around christmas, where I picked it up for $3k.
I wanted the 4k one but it was still priced over $6k

QHD would have been perfect for a 17 inch monitor, but they only have that on their just released versions.

The screen is meant to be awesome, 100% adobe RGB coverage with 400 nits
The FHD version only has 300 nits and 100% adobe sRGB (About 70% of RGB)
So for media consumption or professional colour work, its GREAT.

If you are going to use this laptop outside then yeah the reflective screen may be a dealbreaker.
            The FHD versions are anti-glare.

I just watched a review on youtube to see how bad it was, all it did was leave me wanting the 4k more :(

          • @mella060: Hey Mella060,

I was wondering how you went with your Blade 17 4k?
I ended up biting the bullet and buying one, after thinking about the 100% adobe RGB coverage and 400 nits, hdr etc.
I got mine today and was blown away by the screen. I havent done much on it yet, but am very happy.

Did you end up keeping yours?

The RRP is a joke and would’ve been even high this time last year. At sub $2k it’s a good deal and very solid build quality, but there 3060 laptops being offered for slightly more which may be better if you don’t need the super slick case and build.

Yeah I have a Razer Blade Advanced with a 10850 and 2070. Use it mainly for work but whenever I squeeze in the odd gaming session, it does get a bit hot and have some thermal throttling, but never seems to impact the fps or performance. My only gripe is the keyboard, coming off an Alienware M17, the keyboard on the Razer is not as pleasant to type on. Also it' s a finger print magnet.

  • What battery life do these have the trouble with these laptop is they usually only have 4-6 hour battery life

    • +1

      4-6 hours?

My dell vostro 5490 only has 2 hour battery life!

    • normally more than a few hours before the battery swells ;)

  • About $4-500 more then current promotional 10th gen laptops with 2060 at Harvey Norman currently

Warning the support from Razer for their products, is pretty woeful in Australia…

    https://au.trustpilot.com/review/razer.com

When looking for a high end gaming laptop last year.. did I all my research… and pretty much concluded I need to stay well clear of their laptops in Australia.. due to the lack of support..

No matter how tempting or cheap their products are..

I don't I read a single review praising their customer support..

    • Wow! I know Trustpilot is a bit overweight on the negative reviews but that is horrendous!

      • +1

razer can have great support…. but very hit and miss which means spinning the chamber with only 1 empty

the battery swelling issue with their recent laptops is causing a lot of grief… still…. salary sacrifice going to waste :'(
