You're out and about with your Android device and you suddenly realize that you need to access a file sitting on your home computer. You're stuck, right? Not if you have Splashtop Remote Desktop, an app that brings your entire computer to your phone or tablet.

Note: If you have an Android 3.x tablet, it is recommended that you download Splashtop Remote Desktop HD. This version features enhanced performance and is optimized specifically for Android 3.x/Tegra-based tablets.

Complete Virtual Access
With this app, you can control your home computer from your Android device via Wi-Fi or a 3G/4G connection. Get Splashtop Remote Desktop and you can view your desktop, use your regular Web browser with your plug-ins and bookmarks, and access all your important PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Outlook files.

Liberate Your Multimedia
Want to listen to music or watch movies that are "trapped" on your computer while you're on the go? Not a problem. Splashtop Remote Desktop can smoothly stream high-res video and audio from your PC or Mac to your Android device. Watch videos in any format (including Flash), listen to your entire music library, and play PC games to your heart's content.
With Splashtop Remote Desktop you can
• Watch Flash videos (Hulu, AOL Video, Yahoo Video, etc.), DVDs, and Media Center content
• Listen to music stored on your computer in any format (WMV, Real, WMA, MP3, AAC, etc.)
• Play 3D games such as World of Warcraft, StarCraft, Civilization V, and more
• Play Facebook Flash games like FarmVille, CityVille, Pet Society, Cafe World, FrontierVille, and Mafia Wars
• Use non-Android programs such as Quicken and iPhoto

Note that to use this app, you must also install Splashtop Streamer on your home computer; this can be downloaded free from Splashtop's website. A dual-core CPU is strongly recommended for the best performance. Splashtop Remote Desktop works only devices running Android OS 2.2 or higher. It supports all versions of Windows 7, Vista, and XP, including Home Premium. Mac users must have at least Snow Leopard (10.6).

  • Always free on getjar.

  • +1

Instructions worked a treat to get an account that used to be working up and going again. This version of Splashtop is far superior to the GetJar version. This one has 3G / Mobile connectivity, not just WiFi and ICS support. Very nice!

If it helps anyone, the version numbers are as follows:

      • Amazon Market - 1.6.5.6r16450
      • Android Market - 1.6.5.6
      • GetJar - 1.1.5.3r9716
      • Did you use an american Proxy to get the 1 click purchase? The proxies that were once working for me now sends me into a loop — I click to buy, it tells me to login, then it sends me back to login again.

  • +1

+1 for instructions. Personally I prefer the RealVNC VNC Viewer for Android.

  • Just let you know from the reviews some people get Trojans on their PC thanks to the opened port , that this app needs to keep opened. It looks good but is insecure

    • +1

Do you mean the open port on UltraSurf to enable access to Amazon apps OR do you mean the open port used by Remote Desktop?

Either way use of a quality firewall to control traffic is recommended.

      • +1

I meant Splashtop Streamer on your home computer. If you use firewall you still need to open the port to make Splashtop to find the PC. However the firewall can be altered to let your device in only. A bit advanced for a regular user

        • so you need to run a program on your pc for this? it doesn't work through MS RDP?

        • No, it runs off a little app called "Splashtop Streamer". It's their server app that will talk to iOS, Android and WebOS devices among others. It's also cross platform, hence not using MS RDP.

    • Is that on the default ports? Works great on my SGS2 and CM7 touchpad, but not with swype/slideit/swiftkey

    • Can u provide some links - I just spent 15 minutes googling and cannot find a single thread about this… or is it only in the amazon appstore reviews (the one place I didn't look) There was nothing in any forums or on the regular market reviews mentioning this

      • Don't have any threads on me at the moment, but read a few including from the developer stating that the password isn't encrypted, so you are essentially sending a freetext password over the internet that gives some access to your computer's desktop.

Using it on Wifi is much safer assuming you have a reasonably well secured wifi network, but using it over the internet is potentially dangerous.

        Try searching for 'Splashtop insecure'

  • Thank you so much. My Amazon account stopped working about 3 weeks ago and the workaround has run perfectly on my SGT, HTC Incredible S, and my Optus Tab. A hint though if it keeps on disconnecting you from VPN, reboot your phone. Splashtop Remote is also a great little app also. Best app I have found so far. Thanks so much for sharing. Sharon

  • I can't get that VPN workaround to work on my Android. It won't connect.

"Unable to connect to network. Try again?"

After 10 tries I give up ahehe

  • edit - wrong spot

My Amazon account stopped working again :|

    • Did you try the fix. That is logon to your account from your PC thru the Ultrareach VPN (run UltraSurf and let it open your browser before logging in to Amazon and checking your apps from your PC via the allocated US IP address). Then try again from your mobile thru the Android Amazon app. Worked for me.

  • What about TeamViewer? Is splashtop better?
