Philips Micro System/iPod/iPhone Dock with DAB+ DCB293 - $191

70

As per title, free delivery too.

It has DAB+, FM, a CD player, USB mp3 playback and a pop-out iphone/ipod dock and an aux-in.

Looks very nice, can be wall-mounted and has a great remote. Sound is really good.

Best I could find in store was $229. I actually got Dick Smith to beat the price at $190 but I know price matches are not considered bargains. So its worth a try if you want to pick one up.

  • Looks good.

Does it have a sleep button, so that it switches off after say 60 minutes?

    • Sorry, not sure. I know it can work as an alarm though.

    • Just got in and checked, yes it does have a "sleep" function.

  • +1

Great Price, I looked at the unit but instead decided on the Panasonic $250 at BigW (on sale)

    • better Sound (2 Way speaker, compared to the Philips 1 Way)
    • 40Watt RMS (20watt for the Philips) Standby is 0.2Watt
    • Speaker Phone
    • Netradio
    • Bluetooth (can stream audio from my macbook pro/iphone)

    http://panasonic.com.au/Products/Hi-Fi/Micro+Hi-Fi/SC-HC55DB…

    • netradio still needs ipod/iphone

      wish it didn't….

      • Yeah but it works with the remote, change net station, launch app ect..
I was devastated I couldnt get any DAB+ stations on the coast, and FM is patchy in my area.
But listening to triplej via the radio app was a real life saver.

    • I'm sure its fine but $60 more so not really comparable.

      • They were about the same price when I was looking, for me it is just a glorified clock radio.

        • -1

          then u wasted your money..

since DAB+ is useless to you…

could have just listen to netradio on your pc
          and not waste $250…

and buy a cheap ipod dock

          etc..

        • Sales people lie, not always convenient to use a computer in bed.

  • I bought it for $179 at DSE about six months ago. It seemed to be a pricing error as they meant to sell the cheaper non-DAB DCB292 for that price. I can tell you sound wise it was not even worth $179. A very lightweight unit with a tinny sound, not worth saving a few dollars if you can never really enjoy what you have bought. Go for the Panasonic mentioned above as it would be more than worth the extra $60. Or, if you can, go for say the Sony DAB micro system for a bit more. Won't neg the deal as a DAB for that price is good but the product itself is not worth it.

    • I don't think we have the same one then - mine is far from "tinny". I had to turn off the Bass Boost at one point as it was too powerful.

Anyway the Amazon pages give a good set of impartial reviews if anyone is interested.

    • any link for the sony DAB one?

  • I got this at DSE online during Boxing Day for $143.20 - no longer this price though

  • Can anyone comment on mobile phone interference??

The last one of these I saw worked great with everything except iphones. Due to the mobile phone signal when the radio was on and the iphone was charging in the dock there would randomly be these occurances of buzzing and interference from the Mobile signal.

Can anyone confirm if the same happens on this model?

    • I only played for a few hours last night and olny used Dab and not FM but I didn't experience anything like you describe. No interference of any sort.
