  • I don't think this will be accurate.

Hi, nicksnoobie. How accurate do you think a housing digital scale should be?
I should say that it has good quality and is very well reviewed.
So we recommend it to our members here. :)

  • Agreed, especially to 0.01grams.
Not too keen on the branding either.

    • Hi, dan76n. please look at the 2nd and 3rd pictures in this link,

      http://www.tmart.com/pgallery/100g-x-001g-Cigarette-Case-Sty…

and you can see that it can be accurate as to 0.01g.
We can promise you the accuracy of the product.

Leftdrop, I think you do not understand the difference between "precision" and "accuracy".

"Precision" in this case is about the number of significant digits used to describe the weight (e.g. 10.04 gram). This has NOTHING to do with accuracy, as it could be off by 20 grams, but report the weight to 2 decimal places.

"Accuracy" is about whether it is "spot on" (in this case, calibrated). What evidence do you have of calibration?

As for the "kitchen scale" you mentioned: my $13 dealextreme one is precise to 1 gram, and also accurate to 1 gram when compared to a $100 breville one.

        • +1

Agreed. It shows 3.94 grams. Doesn't mean it's really 3.94 grams.

Hi, Make it so.You are right.
You remind me of the difference between precision and accuracy
(actually I do know them). Thank you!

How is your scale works or look like?

    • I worked in baking for a while, our scales were within 2 grams and costed a fortune. Granted they were much larger and commercial grade.

I very much doubt the legitimacy of this deal, especially for the size and price.

edit: Is this the same product: http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/320017004/pocket_scale_JR_… ? Government is going to have a field day with the packaging one day :P

      • They look the same.
I think the difference is that alibaba has a bunch of scales
which look more like a pack of cigarettes.

  • why disguise as a pack of cigarettes? Of all things?

    • +2

Why disguise a set of scales at all?

      • yes, alibaba disguises them as a pack of cigarettes.
        http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/320017004/pocket_scale_JR_…

      • +9

dope dealers use them for weighing product

        • They won't be much of a disguise soon, all cigarette's in Aust will be plain packaged in olive green (court cases pending), so will actually stick out rather than be disguised.

  • +4

Good luck explaining this one to the cops.

    • Open it up and your done? Why the hell would the cops care?

      • +6

What reason could you possibly come up with as to why you're carry around a pocket sized scale other than for drug use?

        • +2

why would you need to? these products are not illegal

        • I'm a small rock and pebble collector and I like to weigh them.

These scales give you an excuse anyway. "I meant to pick up my pack of ciggies, not this disguised scale."

  • +2

Awesome, i'm going to get my kids one of these.

What reason could you possibly come up with as to why you're carry around a pocket sized scale other than for drug use?

      • -2

While you're at it, why not buy them a (perfectly legal) bong (also called a hookah).

        • +4

Hookahs are different from bongs, just fyi.

  • +1

great for weighing coffee when brewing at home - even if not accurate, as long as it's consistent

  • Does look a bit like a tiny bomb (or the TV/movie image of one) disguised as a pack of cigarettes :D

  • +4

100g capacity aye…. hmmm… not sure if that's enough to weigh the amount of cocaine and crystal-meth i deal on the streets :p

  • +5

This would be a great gift to my cousin who is a street pharmacist

  • +8

I'll wait for the plain packaging edition.

    • +1

We have many other plain packaging editions
and would like to share with you.

      Welcome to Tmart!

  • So this is a way of getting around plain packaging.

  • +2

Is the fact that it's disguised as a cigarette pack meant to make it more appealing? I don't see the point, and given that cigarette advertising has been illegal for a number of years, you're probably treading a very thin line.

    • haha, it is just packaging.
nothing to do with cigarette adv~
as to disguise I don't think cigarette is a good idea.

  • why do you need to disguise a jewellery scale?

    • +3

Probably people prefer that it looks like a cigarette case rather than a set of cocaine scales.

I wasn't going to neg this "deal", but have decided it contains too many negative connotations. While I have nothing against illicit drugs per se (other than thinking that legalising them would solve a whole load of problems, I do not agree with the drug trade. I also dislike deceptive advertising, and can't see too many jewellers using these scales to measure their wares.

I also see this as a none-too-subtle attempt to evade the imminent introduction of plain packaging for cigarettes.

Finally, I would not be surprised if this packaging were already illegal in Australia, along the lines of chocolate cigarettes.

    • I think the reason they are "jewelers scales" is that they can't list them as a tool for drug dealers, this is completely obvious, now consider (knowing the aimed audience) if the drug dealers would really care if it was advertising cigarettes or if that was even illegal. Also for everyone you may want to keep in mind most of these mass produced scales aren't too bad, 90% of them can be calibrated properly if you have your own calibration weights.

I wont be neg-ing this deal but I also wont be buying it, though if you needed these for some reason I think this is a good deal.

  • +2

Probably illegal in Australia. They don't have the Health Warnings…

  • +1

So is "gn" meant to be Grains? If they were precise they might be useful for reloading ammunition (much cheaper than other options).

The problem I've had with electronic scales is the speed in which they display the weight - not very fast. Scales with a small capacity like this really need still air too - as a breeze can change your measurements.

  • Plenty of electronic scales for similar prices on DX, Focalprice and the like, without the silly "disguise".

I got some to help calibrate my espresso making technique. And for weighing out weed to sell to the local kids, of course.

As others have said, depending on your application, accuracy isn't a big deal as long as it's consistent; that said, they seem to be fairly accurate as well.

  • +1

this is cheaper than a pack of Marlboros in Perth.
i wish that it actually was a real pack :(

  • I prefer your iPod looking ones. The $17 mini scales i bought on here a while ago appear to be quite accurate
but i might buy one of your calibration weights to find out.

  • +3

Do you have a Winnie Blues edition…I wanna blend in @ Collingwood home games.

    • +1

Not Winnie Blues(?) How about Havana…
(It seems that we are dealing something illegal…haha)

  • Does it come with a free pack of cigarettes?

    • Not. It is a scale. yada is so cute…
