If you have a Westpac card, you might have $150 cashback offer (spend over $1000).

Happy to help others pick this up for $150 off the price :)

    • Is this a Dell offer via westpac?

      • Yes $150 cashback after $1000 spend

        • Do you have the offer details? does that have to be a westpac credit card or just the normal direct debit card will do as well? Thanks

          • @StanSS: No idea, it's a targeted offer. I have Westpac Altitude Platinum with QFF. If you can't find it under Rewards and Offers, presumably you have not been targeted

  • When will there be a 34 inch version (AW34DW21)? The AW34DW20 model has been discontinued recently already. Wondering if Dell plans to release a new 34 inch model. Would be cheaper and easier to run.

  • -1

34 ultrawides are better if wanting higher fps on current generation gpu, i've got a 34" 144hz ultrawide with a rtx3080, perfect combo

    • Yeah I thought the same, good luck getting good FPS at the resolution of this 38" beast. G-SYNC and DLSS will help, but can only go so far.

      • Yep 100% , I can’t even max out my 34 ultra wide 144hz on all games at max, this is with a 3080, 5950x and 64gb of fast ram , forget about frame rates at the resolution of this 38” monster

Productivity on the other hand is another story, 38” would be perfect

        • what games cant you max out at 144 hz?
you dont need 144 hz on crap like cyberpunk, assassins creed etc

other games that you do need 144 hz + are older titles like COD, r6, cs go, you can easily get that with a 3080

for new single player games frames are not important - around 80-100 is good enough

that's why 1440 p is best for gaming, with current hardware you get easily 200 + fps in games that matter and 100 in others
I recon 4k is as much of a gimmick as ray tracing

        • "High" is a better benchmark to use rather than "Max/Ultra" as that setting is often made for future hardware and features small gains in quality for large losses in performance.

THANKS OP , I MADED PURCHASE

    • +1

      why you mad?

      • +5

        That's excitement

    • +1

the way the price on these has come down from launch is a joke
      RRP 2.2k
      6 months later 1.5k
      hmmmmmm

      • Top of the line tech. You shouldn't be that suprised.

        • -1

I don't see Samsung discounting their monitors and they have been around longer
its way overpriced its the only explanation - I just feel bad for ppl that paid full price

  • Would PS5 run well with this?

    • +1

Unfortunately not at this time due to 1600p resolution not being supported by PS5 currently.
Which is spewing though because the colour scheme is on point for the PS5.
But I doubt the PS5 support 21:9 aspect ratio either.
You'd be better off building a gaming PC using the new Fractal Design Meshify 2 Compact case in white imo

  • +1

running one of these with my 3090, games that support the res run well with frames between 80 - 130 on ultra everything AAA crap. Anything else just maxed out no issues. Great for productivity as i WFH during the day too.

  • +4

Bought this at the last dell sale (sadly not as cheap as this) - super happy with it, colors and size is perfect.
I also game warzone and FPS and the 144hz and input lag is solid, no ghosting.

38" is rather huge though and 1600p does require a powerful GPU if you want buttery smooth performance.
However it's perfect for productivity WFH.

  • I'm a peasant

  • Stupid question… But there is no oled screens/monitors of similar sub 40"?

    • Lg are releasing 42 inch oled monitor this year. Details are still scarce but personally I'm holding out for that. I think the price will be competitive and include 4k and hdmi 2.1.

Edit: sorry, but to answer your question, no - no OLEDs that small.

      • OLED will take few years/goes at it to make it work proper in gaming though, so even if they release it this year it wont be amazing as you think sadly

        • People have been gaming on OLEDs for literally years on televisions. It works fine, the issue is whether they can produce a smaller panel for a monitor and include HDMI 2.1

          • @ifreddo: its not the same usage - sure if you are just going to turn on the monitor when you game only, but if used as proper monitor there are many obstacles to tackle first - burn in being the biggest
            demand as well?
its not easy to make a small OLED monitor and mass produce
I believe Dell tried to bring one out ?
            https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/dell-30-ultrasharp-oled-moni…

            • @botchie: Burn-in is the risk you take for a superior picture quality and form factor. This is not a new issue, it'll be the same for monitors as it is televisions. LG have stated that they are using new anti-burn in technology this year. Burn in is never likely to be a non-issue for OLED.

I'm confused when you say take a few years to tackle 'many obstacles' - not sure what you're referring to.

              • @ifreddo: OLED only has better picture quality but performance is still not there to match screens gamers want - it is getting there like 120 hz panels and all but as I said it still needs few years

                biggest obstacle is price
they will be around $3,4k till you can successfully mass produce and bring in more models
will you pay $3000 for an OLED screen when you can get same size with faster refresh rate for $1000?

                • @botchie: Can you point to a source for that sort of pricing for an OLED monitor? You've quoted the same amount people are paying for an OLED 65 inch television. LGs current 48" OLED TV (aimed at gamers and PC users) can be had for $2500.

I agree, price is going to be a barrier for some people, but not all.

              • @ifreddo: you can pre order this one and price isn't even close

                https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1621993-REG/lg_27ep95…

                • @botchie: That's not a gaming monitor…it's for graphic artists and photography professionals.

                  • @ifreddo: thats the point yes - there are no gaming OLED monitors and what is coming up is huge $$
there is not going to be an 40 inch OLED 144hz monitor for $1600 in the near future

            • @botchie: Thankfully it's well documented that LG replace any panels with burn in up to 5 years because their definition of 'abuse' doesn't cut it with the ACCC

    • -1

      Dell may release oled soon.

      • they did and it crashed

  • +1

Hard to justify this monitor when you can get the Xiaomi one for <$500. Sure it is smaller and not as good but this thing is 3 times the price. Is it really 3 times as good?

    • +1

Yeah for $1600ish - I feel you'd be better off with the Xiaomi/Gigabyte etc… $500-700 ultrawide until the tech in the $1600+ monitors are actually worth the upgrade imo.

I dont think you'll lose sleep with the "budget ultrawides"

    • Xiaomi is a budget monitor. No comparison.

34" is the poor man's widescreen, it's fine if you're a peasant, accept your role in life plowing the fields.

      • +1

Haha righto it's a pretty average monitor for the money they're asking. Go to rtings and compare the alienware to the gigabyte 34inch stuff Al between them. Ips vs va,otherwise there is not a $900 difference for the slightly larger size. You completely missed my point too. I'm running a 3090, 5900x and still don't think the AW is a good buy imo. So peasants comment is a little stupid from you.

        • Maybe upgrade to AMD if your PC is struggling to hold frames, then you can get this monitor.

        • +1

I have three AW 34inch monitors and pretty happy about them. In monitors' world, you pay what you got, the panels, design and qualities are related to the prices. Cheap monitors may good for saving money but not good for image. You can easily tell the difference when you put AW and Xiaomi side by side. I understand your point is the difference not worth much money which I am not agree. People pay top money to get top products, and those people will not say Ferrari is not worth that much money because it is not 100 times better than a Toyota.

          • +1

@getit: I wouldn't 100% agree - ppl here pay too much emphasis on getting IPS panel but all they do is game - not realising for gaming there are better alternatives -
this monitor is for ppl that work from home and want productivity with gaming on side and they have money to spend - not just on monitor but on hardware as well
then there are those with extra money that want to buy every shiny thing and boast about it….
there are far better monitors out there for 1k

            • @botchie: Name 1 that has similar specs at 1k?

            • +1

@botchie: I believe all gaming ppl are also spend many time on view webpages or movies and etc.
Most ppl would agree IPS still the best panel for current monitor market over all. VA is not bad, but not as good as IPS.
For this AW 38inch, actually it is quite good price, it using LG fast ips panel, it is the most advance ips panel right now. LG own product 38GN950-B are selling around 2.5K at the moment (first released price was 3k). So for point of my view, this one is the best choice for ppl who like ultrawide gaming monitors like me.

      • Have seen a lot of comments that there is ghosting on the Xiaomi. If ghosting is not a problem, then it's good value. That being said, I don't really like the local dimming on the AW3821DW (you can see it here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RycgCidVtqs&ab_channel=Revie…). So everything's got its downsides.

        • Hence my point about $700 on the gigabyte 34inch which reviews extremely well vs the AW 38inch which tries to be premium except misses the mark with shitty local dimming, and very poor HDr, these are big missteps for the price tour paying. Look them both up on rtings.com it's a good comparison to suss out.

          • @sn00kered: I'm pretty sure the gigabyte is a VA panel. Ghosting is a problem on almost all VA panels. From what I've read the Samsung G7 is the first (anecdotal claims) VA panel with almost no ghosting. But its not ultrawide, has aggressive curve, and is expensive ($1000 ballpark).

Still I agree that $1600 is too much to consider as a bargain. The AW3420DW at $1000ish on dell ebay a few weeks ago I'd say was a decent deal although there was very less stock given it's discontinued.

  • Looking for a good snap to screen app for this monitor. Dells one isnt compatible on this monitor.

  • -1

Would love to have a 4K 120hz monitor.

  • Xiaomi or this?….Definitely Xiaomi………

    • Why? Price? What else?

      • value for money…

        • Pretty much the only thing xiaomi has going for it. IPS + high refresh + 38" are pretty much premiums in monitors.

          • @krisspy: premium monitor comes with premium price…. If my work requires it…definitely get 38".
otherwise….value for money is always my preference.

  • Any Producers - eg Photographers / Videographers / Designers use this screen how do you rate it for colour accuracy?

  • For those asking on Cashrewards, I doubt it will track. But you can shop using Qantas store to get about 1500 FF points for free. All codes still work. Managed to do this tracking a Dell XPS the other week.

    • qantas tracking never worked for me … no matter what i do, disabling all ad blocks …

      • Shame, I have never had a problem :(

  • +1

Dell look great at delivery, ordered on sunday, shipped yesterday, now waiting delivery today

  • If someone has the 5% next purchase discount voucher, could you please PM me? I'd like to buy it with a discount if you don't plan to use it anytime soon. Thanks

  • Is there any expected date on OLED monitors around 35" mark? 48" LG CX is too big and probably not practical for productivity. I need something 50/50 gaming and coding. Currently 32" AOC cheapie which has served me really well.

    • +1

The biggest problem for OLED panel is burn-in or ghosting that is not good as a monitor. Except this flaw, OLED is great, it has perfect black color which kill any LED panel for now.

  • just received mine today. Screens is awesone, and a very nice design. However, i have a dead pixel… i guess its not under warranty

    • i just checked the pixel policy - https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-au/000126004/dell-disp…
seems like you need a few dead pixels (6) before you are covered.
if it bothers you, you should probably call them and see if they'll replace it. If not, you could use their returns policy with 15 days:
      https://www.dell.com/learn/au/en/aucorp1/policies-returns

      • not bothering me, but its bothering me …. i contacted them today, i need to run the screen diag and give them a photo of the dead pixel

        • Let us know your outcome. Keen to know.

        • So how did you go with this? Did Dell offer a replacement?

Edit > saw your post below, all good

      • I think the Alienware range (like the Ultrasharp series) has a different panel policy. It states it has the "Premium Panel Guarantee: The Dell Premium Panel Exchange allows a free panel replacement during the Limited Hardware Warrant period even if only one bright pixel is found." I would think if it is a dead pixel, it will be more likely to qualify for a replacement.

        • there is a difference between a dead pixel and a bright pixel. They will replace the screen if you have at least 1 bright pixels (white pixels). They will replace the screen if you have at least 4 dead pixels (black pixels)

          • @Nasser67: okay good to know. To me dead pixels is a more serious problem (especially if it is near the centre). Hope Dell can do better in the future on this.

          • +1

@Nasser67: So the Premium Panel Guarantee covers the monitor for the duration of your warranty, i.e. if it develops pixel issues later on.

However, I would absolutely be pushing back on this and citing Australian consumer law guidelines as this is an issue with the product out-of-the-box from new, which is frankly unacceptable for them to knock back in my view.

If it was a few months down the road, sure, might be an uphill battle. But you've just received this unit a couple of days ago - well within the first week.

            See here:
A product or good has a major problem when:
it has a problem that would have stopped someone from buying it if they’d known about it

Would you have knowingly forked out for a monitor this expensive had you known it had the dead pixel? I doubt it. Truly, there is no excuse for a company the size of Dell to be peddling shit with such poor QC, I'm sure many are happy but several others have had issues with this product from what I've read on here.

I say give them hell and demand they replace it with a new unit free of faults or provide a refund, for them to gaslight the buyer like "sorry that's normal" when you're going to see that stupid (profanity) pixel every time the screen is white/light coloured (movies, documents, games you name it) is frankly unacceptable.

            Further ammunition for you here:
Since 1 January 2011, the following consumer guarantees on products and services apply.
Products must be of acceptable quality, that is:
            - safe, lasting, with no faults
            - look acceptable

            • +1

@itscyanide: Hi thank you, I will try with your arguments and let everybody know the results of my support request

      • Return policy says up to 15% restocking fee?

  • i received mine. geez that was quick. about 44hrs from ordering until it turned up at my house.

    DEPTH
for those with a wall behind their desk, and don't have an extremely deep desk, the middle of the display is about 24cm from the wall, when the monitor is on its stand and the stand is as far back as possible, jammed up against the wall. my desk is 81cm deep. While i have plenty of space in front of the screen (dont feel cramped, keyboard, notepad etc), it still seems a little too close, especially with a display this size. so i will be looking into getting an arm for it, so i can move it back.

  • +1

Got mine delivered relatively quickly, few days.

Currently experiencing flickering on the screen when connected via HDMI (Stuck on 30 Hz???) with the provided cable. Had a quick search online and it seems like this is also happening to other people. But via display port it is fine. Just wondering if anyone else is having this issue.

Dell is generally good with their RMA policy so will probably reach out to them. But overall quite disappointed in the quality so far.

    • You may already be aware but there's been reports of Dell replacing brand new units with refurbs, assuming it's not too late it's worth asking whoever you speak with to confirm that the replacement they're sending will be a brand new one and not a refurb.

    • +2

i have been doing some research into the standards for hdmi and displayport. if your pc isnt reasonably new, it is likely that your PC has a v1.4 HDMI port on it. that version of hdmi will only do 30Hz at the native resolution of this beast of a monitor. my 3 year old PC only does 30Hz over HDMI too. no flickering though. if using hdmi, you really need v2.x on your PC to get decent refresh rates over hdmi. use Displayport. it would be better if the monitor had 2 DP inputs. I am currently looking at DP KVM switches.

  • Following my previous posts about this issue, dell just answered they will not replace my screen because of the dead (black) pixel. They said their policy is only working for at least 6 dead pixels…
What do you suggest guys, should I ask for refund and return the screen ?

    • the answer to that question will be different for everyone. it depends on how much it bothers you, if you can live with it and forget about it. i suppose it depends on how prominent/noticeable the dead pixel is (i.e. colour of it, and where it is on the screen), and compare that with what how much out of pocket you will be if you return it (if there are return shipping charges, and/or restocking charges). if there was no cost to return it, i definitely would.

      • i will keep it, im too lazy do all the stuff to return.. Finally Dell offered me to return and refund with no charge

  • Recently got one of these, I don't know if I've set something up incorrectly but I am getting so much ghosting(think the term would be ghosting?)
Its easily identifiable with text, when I scroll a web page you can see the text for a split second where was before the scroll. Its extremely annoying as it almost feels like its flashing so unconfirmable on the eyes. Same thing happens if I click and drag a window, there is like a trail of the text.

    Has anyone else noticed this?
