These babies are getting to my ideal size. I'm hoping to see a 40 inch ultrawide soon. 38 isn't far off, but I really like the height of conventional 32s, which is equivalent to a 40 inch 21:9.

    • +4

      I agree, and we're getting there: https://www.dell.com/en-au/shop/dell-ultrasharp-40-curved-wu…

However, it's not a gaming monitor if that is what you're looking for.

    • +2

There is a Dell U4021QW that is a 40 inch ultra wide. It’s not a gaming monitor though.

Edit: Omuse beat me to it :)

    • -5

Lol why did people neg you

    • You might have to wait a few years. If you really want this sort of aspect ratio at near 40 inches, I'd say now would be the time to pull the trigger. I got my first 34 ultrawide back in 2014. I recently bought this monitor and it is going well - I'd not want it to be any larger without a pixel increase (equivalent to 4k as opposed to 1440p).

5760 x 2160 will be the next generation of ultra-wide when they go bigger than 38 inches.

    • +2

I had a 34 inch at around 30-40 cm away from me and never had any eye strain or eye issues, still have great vision. I also always have some type of lighting on though so maybe that helps.

    • +2

I have a 49” curved ultrawide monitor and it’s pretty awesome to use and no eye strain either.

We are not comparing LCD with CRT monitor, you should consider the ergonomic of your desks and setup of everything (including the monitor) to make sure you are comfy.

    • +2

My priest at my local church uses a 40" Curved monitor for daily use…

It's okay if you don't like this innovation in technology, but don't expect everyone else to have the same opposing opinion

      Simple Explanation:
People have been using dual 24" (or 27) monitors for decades… Why do you think that's any different than having one single monitor to replace this??

    • +1

no screen is good for your eyes, but I guess ppl prefer them big, I couldnt do more then 32 inch….I think thats perfect size for me, had a look at 49 inch one and couldnt see my self using that , I dont like the height on them - each to their own though

    • I recently bought a 4K monitor to use in conjunction with 2 old non 4k monitors. Biggest purchasing mistake I've made in ages.

The screen itself is great, but my OS has this really annoying problem now that when the 4K monitor is turned off, the apps get moved to the other monitors and the font sizes all go to hell.

Having one super wide monitor would have fixed this issue for me.

  • Damn this is tempting

  • +7

    Thanks op bought 20

    • +11

Invite us around to feast on your glorious 760 inches.

      • +16

        That's what she said?

      • +1

You have to line up each of 20 monitors diagonally to get 760 inches, and it would be 9 meters in height. If success, it would be a great feat.

  • Damn just paid $1598

    • Damn, you better have a good PC to get the most out of this monitor's resolution and refresh rate

^^ Not to mention, a proper reason to own one of these… :)

  • Are these any good for watching movies?

    • There will be a black bar on right and left unless you can find 21:9 movies to play on it.

      • +2

And keep in mind that some streaming services have the movies on them play with black bars top and bottom so they fit a regular 16:9 setup. Netflix is a prime example of this rubbish.

        • I've found Netflix a mixed bag on my 21:9, though better than it used to be. Main issue I run into now is with programs where aspect ratios get mixed.

    • no

    • better to go for an OLED TV if movies are your main thing

  • +1

No cashback I am assuming right?

    • +1

      3% with cashback rewards

      • I asked when there was 10% cashback, but no one replied and seems no body knows if still have cash back with such code, although someone said can be tracked with Lovekeanu. Eventually I bought it from eBay for $1715 ($80 less for ebay discounted giftcard) with 5 yrs warranty, can't really trust the cashback process but somehow the invoice only stated 3 year warranty, contacted Dell they said they needed to contact Dell ebay team, yet to receive any solution, it's been a week now. Also with Dell ebay you have more GST the claim (for work lol), appreantly Dell ebay issue to full amount invoice before any discount code.

  • Thanks, i took it. I dont know why; but i did it. 1368$ for me, i had the 200$ bonus from my new Amex card

    • Which amex card has $200 bonus from Dell?

  • Will this be equivalent of 2x27 inch monitors?

    • -1

No, it is shorter vertically and horizontally. The U4919DW is.

      • +1

This monitor (AW3821DW) would be taller vertically, but shorter horizontally when compared to 2x27 inch monitors

        • +1

Because this is a large IPS ultra wide monitor with fast response time (max 1ms) and high refresh rate (max 144Hz).

        • +6

Comments like this are really out of place.

Because people don’t want two monitors, they want one. You want 38” IPS with a decent refresh rate? You pay for it… I’d take this over 2x27” any day of the week.

          • -7

            @Pelicannn: no need for aggression

you can get 2 kogan monitors here for $600

            144hz, QHD, IPS

            https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/608522

            • +4

@Homr: How much do you charge to delete the bezels in the middle? Kinda gets in the way when I play fps games

In fact why stop at 2? You can get 4 and have more than 4k resolution. Why bother with 4k tv's?

            • +3

@Homr: I'm not, this is no different to you saying, why buy a 75" TV, just sit closer on a 40".

These monitors are not comparable. Firstly the Kogan is not an IPS, its a VA - arguably the worst panel for gaming, doesn't have G-Sync, 5ms response vs 1ms response is a big deal in gaming.

I'm not saying you can't buy two monitors cheaper than this, that's not the point. Again there are people who don't want two monitors… otherwise how is there a market for these and why does this have 50 upvotes in only 2 hours.

              • +1

@Pelicannn: he just compared this AW3821DW to 2x kogan monitors… face palm where is the logical in this? you okay? <- directed at homr

            • +1

@Homr: I dare say that people considering this class of monitor are not going to be swayed by the budget monitor category.

        • this monitor is costly because
          - Nvidia module
          - Alienware stamp
          - RBG

    • +1

      Quick math: 2 x 27 = 38

      • -1

Doesn't really work like that, because the screen size measurement is diagonal.

  • Bought during a previous deal. Great monitor, highly recommend it.

  • Really wish this was 4K. Wouldn’t mind if it was $2000 more expensive then.

    • +4

If it helps you sleep at night this by definition is 4k.

So go on buy it, you deserve one.

      • This monitor only have vertical pixels of 1600 and can be defined as 4K?

        • By definition, 4K refers to the horizontal pixel count. Monitors of 3840 x Something are considered 4K, so technically he's right, by definition it is 4K. It does of course not have as many pixels as your standard 16:9 or 16:10 4K display. More correct would be that you are probably thinking of UHD. They aren't exactly interchangeable but 4K and 3840 is somewhat interlaced.

        • +1

You are confusing UHD with 4K. They are interchangeable statements to some extent but not the same thing.

  • Great monitor, just bought one myself a couple of weeks ago.

    • Same! This is cheaper again

  • Anyone has a 3080 gpu with this monitor and using it for gaming? Can you please share your reviews, thoughts and advise as I’m looking to get this monitor with my upcoming 3080 build. Thanks In advance.

    • Yes. I have both, the 3080 and this monitor are great. It's a monster of a resolution, so for poorly optimized new games like cyberpunk, you'll need to play around with the settings to get a framerate you're happy with, using dlss too.

Else games like death stranding, metro exodus etc look amazing with ray tracing and high fps.

Revisiting some older games like wow classic and upscaling the resolution look amazing with ultra wide too.

      • Agree with all of this. Also didn't take as big a hit on FPS moving to this as I expected. 3080 is really quite capable with high resolutions - for now.

    • I suggest a 32 inch Samsung g7 with that 3080 but each to their own

      • +2

        16:9 vs ultrawide?

No thanks. Ultrawide any day of the week. I bought a QHD 16:9 to use as a temporary monitor while my Acer X35 is going through warranty, can't stand it at all.
But just been told they're refunding me because they have no spare stock for the X35, so bought this Alienware on Thursday. Being delivered on Tuesday so got that to look forward to.

G7 was never even on the radar

        • yeah, I cant stand 21:9 - too "skinny" for me
32 fills my view just nicely without too much moving about and I can lean back a bit in my chair.
cant imagine playin rocket league on 21:9

          • @botchie: 21:9 is usually for movie, or a larger field for video /music editing.

          • @botchie: that's why this monitor is so good, 1600px high is amazing - I came from a 1440px high ultrawide and this is so much better

            • @adlawd: depends on size I guess, I was never one to count pixels, frames on the other hand - I much prefer higher frames then more pixels, 32 inch for me is more then enough

  • So bloody tempting.

    • +2
      • +4

Currently in cart ready for trigger to be pulled. Thank you for your encouragement

        • +2

This will make you hit that BUY

  • I see 6% on cash rewards? Does that apply?

    • I don't think so if you use the code

"Important: Dell cashback is ineligible if using any codes that are not specifically listed on Cashrewards."

  • I got 34" and I'm already scared with the price of video card good enough to properly run the monitor's resolution lol

    • +2

this is close to 4k so I dont think any card will run it to 144 hz unfortunately - unless its cs go or some very old game, you are best sticking to 1440 p resolution for few more years I think

  • +1

Man I wanna cop one of these babies pretty bad

  • Will this be any good for the new ps5 or xbox series x?

    • +3

      No. Unsupported resolution.

    • +2

No wide-screen is going to be good for consoles.

Get a Samsung Q70 if you want 4k 120hz or stick with 4k 60hz monitors

    • +1

For this amount of money you should be buying a high end TV if it's console only.

  • Can someone explain what upstream and downstream usb ports are for?

    • Usb hub for peripherals

    • Upstream is from PC to monitor, Downstream is regular USB ports that you plug your peripherals in to

      • Thanks but what is being up streamed and downstrwamed between pc and monitor?

        • +1

Essentially your monitor acts as a bridge for your keyboards, mouse etc so you don't have to wire them to your PC, just the ports on the monitor. Then the monitor has one cable, the "upstream" that goes to your PC and carries all that data.

        • +2

It's a usb hub dude. You connect a usb to your pc, then all your mouse/keyboard thumb drives connect to the monitor. Nothing more. It's a usb hub.

  • I jumped on the deal a couple of weeks ago from Dell direct.

I also remember seeing someone post about the price guarantee but can't find it now.

Anyone gone through the price guarantee process?

    • If you brought from Dell direct, you can call them on 1800 812 392 and ask them to refund you the difference.

      • thanks, It was from Dell Direct.

Do you know if they factor in the Honey 7 codes

        • Yes they do. They ask you to email in a screenshot.

price match was approved on this monitor with this price. also had cash rewards approved when ordering from Dell with no code, so effectively 1475 for it.

Remember you have 30 days from invoice date, not order date, to claim price match from Dell.

          • @paratrooper7: I called and they didn’t ask for a screenshot. Separately and I’m not sure if this is related but I got a $100 voucher (min spend $200)

Is it called price match or price guarantee?

  • this or the gigabyte g34wqc?

    • Im in the same dilemma - I'm actually running the G34WQC and I dont think the AW38 is 250% better…Im planning to keep the $700 G34WQC, and upgrade to a proper 38 inch ultrawide when theres HDR1000 minimum and or OLED drops a bit more in a year or so. Can't swallow that gulf in price - and yes I know its VA vs IPS - but its not worth the $1600 vs $700 imo.

I think in 12months there will be a much nicer option of a screen for $1600-2000 over this is what I'm really anticipating.

Anyway thats my thinking so far.

  • Anyone used this for simracing? What's the field of view like? G9 being 2700 is hard to justify compared to this

    • +2

G9 is a completely different ballpark, man. The couple of racing games I've played on it (F1, Forza) have looked absolutely amazing.

    • +1

im not in racing games but IMO g9 and 240 hz is batter suited for it
and I think its lower resolution too so you get higher fps

    • +1

Proper FOV setting depends on the monitor distance and size.

Larger is always better for simulation as it allows higher FOV while keeping the correct size relationship between on screen objects.

I would assume the G9 is better as far as FOV setting due to it's 32:9 ratio.

    • +2

CRG9 is about the same price as this and is much better for simracing. The Alienware has a slightly larger resolution and would be taller vertically but the CRG9 is much longer vertically due to the 32:9 aspect ratio.
