  • My gf had to buy same thing, but different model from Officeworks before 5 day melb lockdown as I can't find my other hub. It was $41 :)

They just don't charge fast enough for my device to run full brightness. I call BS on the cheapest model having PD capability.

    • I bought two of the 20w USB C PD chargers in one of their recent deals and they max out at 1600mah charging. My blitzwolf chargers have no issues at maxing out at 2500mah.

    • How much power does your device need?

Where are you getting that power from? These hubs don't provide power, they just allow it to pass through from supply to your device.

  • Can 4k30 do 1440p 120hz? Eg the tab s7+?

    • -1

Not sure. But I think it will not.
The technical file only show it can display with 1080P 4K 60Hz

      • +1

Your comment doesn’t make sense, and according to the listing it (unsurprisingly) only supports 4K at 30hz.

  • Wish you had this earlier, Just bought this one yesterday https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/604595

Any option with two display outputs without quadrupling the cost?

    • I'm hoping this with my USB-C screen

      • You mean plug one monitor into the HDMI port on the hub and one into the USB-C port on the hub? Nah, won't work.

        • Hmm good point, the 3 plug hub does say that the USB-C port is for charging only now that I look closer. Any idea if the other ones support data passthrough on the USB-C port on the hub?

          • @Domingo: Nah, none of these will. You'll need to find one that specifically mentions dual outputs, with specs for both. They will usually say "2x 4K@30Hz or 1x 4K@60Hz" or "4K@60Hz or 2x FHD@60Hz" or something like that.

            • @caprimulgus: That would mean dual HDMI though, wouldn't it? The preference would be 1x HDMI and 1xUSB-C (meaning it has data passthrough on the USB-C PD port).

Right now I have those 2 cables plugged in separately, would be nice to have a single USB-C covering both. Most of the hubs I've looked at are pretty vague about the usage of that port

              • @Domingo: I'm not entirely sure that what you want exists. I would say that they are vague about it almost certainly means they don't support it.

Is there a reason you need the second monitor to be connected via USB-C?

                • @caprimulgus:

need the second monitor to be connected via USB-C?

                  That's not what they said

                  • @DingoBlue: uhhh…pretty sure that is EXACTLY what they said!

That would mean dual HDMI though, wouldn't it? The preference would be 1x HDMI and 1xUSB-C

                    ;)

(Curious - what exactly do you think Domingo is asking for?)

                • @caprimulgus: USB ports on the back of the monitor that connect to webcam, external mic etc - and the buttery smooth mouse movement that comes with 100hz.

                  • @Domingo: Couldn't you get the 100Hz using DP, and connect those USB devices directly to the hub? :)

Unless you can find a dock/hub that specifically advertises USB-C video output (passthrough), I think you'll either need to do it that way, or stick with the two cables, unfortunately!

                    • @caprimulgus: I have a 34" ultrawide and 27" connected to my desktop via DP for 100 and 165hz goodness.

the 34" ultrawide connects to my work laptop via USB-C and connects in to all the peripherals - camera, mic etc as well as providing power. The 27" screen then connects in via HDMI (at low hz :( ). The hope was that I could achieve this via one plug into the laptop, especially with going back to the office more regularly being not too far away.

                      • +1

@Domingo: …which you could achieve by connecting the monitors over DP, and connecting the peripherals to the dock instead of the monitor. Sill with a single connection to your computer!! (Although, to get those refresh rates on both monitors, you'd probably need Thunderbolt 3 for the connection to the laptop.)

But anyway, if you don't want to listen to me, then all good - all the best to you in finding a dongle that supports what you want! :)

(Also, FWIW, none of the hubs in this deal even support 100Hz!!!) :P

Whatevs, have a nice day! :)

                        • +1

@caprimulgus: The monitors are already connected to my desktop via DP :) There's only 1 DP in on each screen, so my other options are USB-C (on the ultrawide) or HDMI.

My work laptop is a second connection into each monitor via alternate cables. And yeah, the hope is that by having a dock that supports through USB-C data as well as charging, the 100hz screen connection can be achieved over USB-C rather than going back to HDMI.

Doesn't sound like that's possible with what's available which is a bit sad, but I guess if having to plug two cables into my laptop is the worst thing in my life, I'm going alright :) thanks for the advice

                          • +1

@Domingo: OK fair enough. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I'm pretty sure what you want doesn't exist!

As I said, best bet is to stick with two cables! Sorry! :)

(Edit: or you could get a DisplayPort switch, if you really wanted…but that's an extra device, and now it's getting even more complicated!) :)

I wonder if this would work with the latest Chromecast with Google TV to allow use of a hard drive?

    • +1

I am also looking for this answer.

    • +1

I don't have this one specifically, but another USB-C hub that I have works just fine with my new Google TV dongle for both power passthrough and both the USB ports. Unfortunately it doesn't recognise the built-in Ethernet jack (may not have compatible drivers), but connected a USB Belkin Ethernet I have to the USB hub works great.

  • Would these charge a Surface Book 2 or Surface Pro?

    • it's the USB c hub. It can support all the full-function C ports (Thunderbolt 3 port). The PD port supports power delievery.
If the Surface book2 or surface pro support PD charging. It will works

      • Do you have any that outputs to displayport? I couldn't see any.

  • If I were using the USB C port on the hub, am I able to plugin a normal charger to the usb A port?

    • not.
The c port support power delievery.

  • The Haribol one was faulty for me. Will try this one, which is half the price. Win!

    • No luck with this one either. Not picking up screen resolution correctly. The display is larger than the screen resolution by ~5% so I can't see the start menu, taskbar or the minimise/restore/close buttons. Tried with two different laptops, two different screens (FHD and QHD) and two HDMI cables. All had the same result. Doesn't matter if it's in duplicate or extended mode.

Sounds like some sort of overscan. Maybe check within your monitor's settings.

        • I think that was it. Disabled overscan in my monitor settings and the scaling looks good now. Thanks!

  • Could this power a 3.5” hard drive with a SATA conversion cable

    • It's ok. suggest work with charging simultaneously

    • No, you will need to power the 3.5-inch drive separately, just like you would connecting it to any USB port.

  • Is the 3 in 1 work for switch?

  • bought a 6-1 couple of days ago

    1. very speedy delivery.
    2. It runs quite hot with a monitor attached to it
    3. its pretty small
    4. fast access via sd card

havent tried using the power delivery yet

    • Tks for purchase.
The Aluminum case is designed to dissipate heat. So the hot means it works.

  • I bought the 6in1 a few months ago, the sd card reader is definitely not 3.0, the maximum reading speed is just around 22MBs

    • As a technical stand, the USB and sd/tf Reader uses the same chip. So it can't work with 2 different speeds.
So what's ur sd/tf card model? Class 10 with what kind of speed? Would you please leave the full information, I will reported to the engineering team. Tks mate

  • I got the 8in1 back in December, haven't fully utilized it (or much at all really yet), but it does get very hot to touch with PD.
