From Disney Live Action, director Jon Favreau's all-new "The Lion King" journeys to the African savanna where a future king is born. Simba idolizes his father, King Mufasa, and takes to heart his own royal destiny. But not everyone in the kingdom celebrates the new cub's arrival. Scar, Mufasa's brother-and former heir to the throne-has plans of his own. The battle for Pride Rock is ravaged with betrayal, tragedy and drama, ultimately resulting in Simba's exile. With help from a curious pair of newfound friends, Simba will have to figure out how to grow up and take back what is rightfully his.

  • Oh this is the live action. Bugger

  • I thought this was pretty good, but I haven't seen the original yet.

    • Watch the original and you will see why people are disappointed. There is a feeling of a lack of passion in this movie and everything(colour, music, characters, realistic CG over expressive CG) is flat compared to the cartoon.

  • +2

the remake no one asked for.

Isn't it CG not live action?

    • It’s still trash regardless

      • why does a movie like babe, pig in the city work and this doesn't?

        • +1

that's a good question. I don't know how Babe did it, but I don't think it was CG. With CG there's an uncanny valley effect when they go for realism.

There's also that Lion King is a remake of a cel shaded animation, and people have fond memories of the original when you do a remake and make it very different. Any time you remake something, you have to fight people's memories of the original.

When you make something realistic looking, people judge it on different standards. The original was stylized and far from realistic, but the story fit the art style. The same story doesn't fit the new art style. When it's realistic, you expect a realistic and less comical story.
