Seems a bit expensive for essentially a funnel?

  • Kintio ah.

Only ever seen Japanese and Americans make coffee this way

    • germans also, still have the mellita drip filter holder my patents brought over in the 70’s …..

making coffee using filter paper is an alternative for people who don’t own espresso machine or a pod machine.

      • I worked at a restaurant that sold drip coffee and took pride in it. Took forever to make a cup. I think maccas still do drip coffee and theirs is terrible, though I guess that's more of a bean problem since hungry jack's is just as bad

Not true. I have an espresso machine that rarely gets used. If I use a machine it's my Moccamaster.

Filter coffee is just so much nicer than espresso coffee and most people seriously into coffee will agree.

        • It's basically impossible to get any burnt tastes from filter.

I don't enjoy burnt or bitter flavours.

          • @Telios: Ther filter also absorbs the cholesterol, which makes for a healthier cleaner tasting coffee.

            • @ShipShapeRC: I would never have even thought about cholesterol in coffee lol

But I wouldn't worry about cholesterol if you don't have high LDL levels and consume a high carb/high salt diet.

If you just eat eggs all day you will never have issues with cholesterol.

              • +1

@Telios: There is no cholesterol in coffee.

Cholesterol is only found in animals, not plants.

                • @fantombloo: What the heck is that crack head on about then.

Unless he pours the milk/cream through the filter as well…?

    • Filter coffee is getting more and more popular world wide tho. I have a HX machine but also have a Hario v60 kit. Filter does offer something espresso can't.

A really nice but expensive kitchen ornament. If you have room and deep enough pockets to show off then good for you. If you just want good coffee then buy a Breville and get over your pretentiousness.

    • +8

Pretty certain a breville is more expensive and more pretentious than a simple $40 cone filter. You sound like a complete (profanity).

Espresso brews and filter coffee are not the same and should never be thought of as substitutes for one another. It's literally like comparing red and white wine orr scotch and gin.

Just get a V60 if you wanted to make better filter coffee or a Chemex if you wanted the looks.

Kinto's entire business revolves around ripping off other brands, similar to Rhinowares

    • Only issue I have with chemex is that you can't dishwasher clean it.

Say what you will about this thing but a detached carafe / jug looks easier to maintain.

But I also agree the chemex looks great

      • A V60 with the glass/wood is just as aesthetic, and you can get nice carafes for them, similar to what is in cafes.

If anyone is thinking of trying out pour over, I’d recommend the Daiso pour over cone and filters. It’s basically a clone of the original Melitta/Kalita cones, and it’s only like $3.30 for the cone and the same again for the filters. Note that the 1-2 cup size is only really good for 1 cup, for 2 cups it’s much better to use the 2-4 cup size

    • +1

This is a very very bright idea.

Target also have some from time to time that are a bit more aesthetic forms reasonable price.

Also IKEA have a $10 stainless cone

    • Been using these for a while now. With the right ratio and decent beans. Been getting fabulous results

    Ritual of self indulgence…

    • Hahaha my father in law would definitely do this. Probably would re-use an old oil pan too :D

      • He has the ozbargain spirit then!

    • 2% cashback with cashrewards too

    • Whole thing for around $20. That's a bargain!

  • No reviews, I don't think dj's has ever sold one of these!

  • +1

Daiso also sells a less elegant one for $2.80
