  • Is this a "decent" phone? Does this cover the bands we want for 4 and 5G in Aus?? :S sorry for stupid questions!

Yeah I think it looks great for the price. Of course a $1000+ phone from Samsung or Apple will be nicer but I personally have been using xiaomi phones for the last few years now

I want to like the phone but I'll pass.

The price does reflect the quality so one can't argue with it.

  • According to gsmarena it has only a 60hz screen which only goes up to 450nits in brightness. Not great for outdoor viewing.

    Mediatek…… Disgusting

MTK is in every new Sony TV…

Yes, and while processors can be good for one purpose, that doesn't mean they're good for another. (Another perfect example are Rockchip processors)

Qualcomm Snapdragon processors generally have (much) better long-term support, in part due to their participation in the Code Aurora Forum (CAF) to allow for open source development with the community and manufacturers. Mediatek doesn't have this, and it shows in the much smaller development community for Mediatek Android ROMs.

Mediatek does dominate the TV SoC market, but that's a sector where flexibility isn't paramount, and is unsurprising considering the vastly more restricted capabilities of a TV compared to a smartphone.

Thank you for such a detailed explanation. This is cool to know.

Pick the poco x3 phone, if you looking mobile around $300, similar cost better quality
It was $318 few days ago in banggood app(currently $378), it gonna pop up special soon

I agree, a much better phone for marginal extra.

Need to add GST to US$189, so total US$207.90

    • Thanks! US$ and A$ prices updated. in title and description.

No worries, thanks for posting. Probably the cheapest 5G phone at the moment.

        • Any experience/tips on ordering from AliExpress? Is Paypal recommended and will the card be charged cross-transaction fees for payment in USD?

          • +1

@djoz: General consensus is to use PayPal with fee free card and choose your card issuer's conversion rate at checkout not PayPal's.

          • @djoz: Bought many things off AliExpress and my experience has been good. Used a prepaid Visa the first time as I was somewhat wary, but haven’t had any issues.

Shipping has always been much faster than I expected too. I pay with PayPal.

    Hard pass on Mediatek

  • I wonder if android auto works properly yet. It's basically unusable on my note8pro

think you can trust aliexpress with a $270 item? I had a $15 item they said if not received in 90 days money back. it never came. I put in a claim they made a fake traking and said it was delivered. i say not worth the risk.

    • I have so far had good customer service experience with purchases from Aliexpress. It just takes forever to get anything delivered.

      • how long?
