  • Can this be used for solar hot water booster

    • +3

I think this would be much better for solar booster, you have added convenience of turning it on from anywhere along with adding automation to turn on , eg. Say if temperature is below X turn on at X time

Any ideas on a suitable way to feed out the temperature for your described setup?

        • I am not 100% sure, it's just a switch why would it omit heat?

          • @BK12: I think @Pureishq wants to know how you would get the temp reading from the hot water system to achieve what you have suggested.

I haven’t found a cost-effective way of doing this on a normal home system that uses a “dumb” thermostat.

            • @Public21: I meant to say temperature outside not the actual water temperature , so grid connect app has really good automation, I set my outside downlights to turn on when sunsets and turn off after 3hours on sunset.

I think for booster we can do like temperature outside is x or when weather forecast is rain then turn on at 5am so water is nice and hot for morning shower incase solar hot water system cannot heat water . If water is already hot it won't do anything so no waste of energy

    • Short answer is yes it could, as long as your hot water system isn’t drawing more than 10amps (2400 watts @ 240v)…. but confirm with your electrician. Note that there are conflicting claims - one part says it is 10amp, while in the description it says 16amps. I’d believe the former.

I have a Clipsal Iconic Bluetooth switch/timer set to come on for a while every afternoon. If the system is at maximum temp, it will switch on but the thermostat won’t trigger. I also have the temporary timer on the switch set to an hour, so we can just give the water a hit without having to remember to turn it off.

This doesn’t require mucking around with Bluetooth setups.

BTW - love the reviews on the e-Bay page, talking about putting it up your nose and the blades not sharp.

      • Pretty sure my element is 3600w, guessing this is no go then

  • Hi all,
Is the 20 hour reserve only in the event of a power outage?

Looking to get this to auto run fan in bathroom for ventilation on a schedule…

  • Can you use this to delay a switch going off?

IE. The bathroom fan staying on for 2 minutes after the switch is turned off to make sure all the steam is vented.
