Does anyone even use RCA anymore?

    • +3

For audio, sure, but not composite video, which these are made for.

RCA died a deserved death. It was a stupid design that had the signal pin protruding on the plug, so you could easily damage your equipment. Nor did it have a designated impedance, so no good for RF signals either.

RCA is alive and well. Just not for video.

Yes, for analog audio, but it's still a bad design. Professional audio gear has XLR connectors, but they are big and bulky. RCA became an accidental standard because there was no other cheap common connector for audio (at the time), not because it's good. SMB is the nearest RF connector equivalent, and its signal pin is well protected from accidental touching.

Is this a joke? HDMI is the way to go.

Perfect for my back alley clinic, thanks.

  • It'd be sure nice to know what connector is on the back of the plate…
