HP Envy Printer $98 down from $298 with AirPrint for iPhone and iPad Printing - Still in Stock

60

I thought I missed this deal (http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/57432) as my local Harvey Norman had them priced at $298. Found that Harvey Norman do have these in stock and they do scan at $98. They have also added new stock to their website (see link). Officeworks have also dropped their price to $98 if you can find them in store. JB have dropped theirs to $122 and Myer and Dick Smith still have it at $299 and won't price match. Also still $299 on the Apple Store website. For a good looking printer with Apple AirPrint is it a great deal.
Cheapest I found on StaticIce was $242 plus postage.

Anyway, managed to grab one and set it up today. Must say I was concerned I may have issues but this was easy to set up, update the software and have it printing with my iPad, iPhone and PC over wifi. It is similar in size to a standard DVD player (same width and length just a little higher. I have placed it in my TV cabinet and gained much needed desk space at home.

Apparently there is a new model being released next year that is almost the same but will add PC fax. This is not a feature I will use so I am happy to grab the current one while it is going cheap. The new one will be back up to the $249-$299 mark from what I have read.

  • ink? No thanks. You'll spend more on it than what you save.

  • Looks like a neat nice little printer, but I wonder about the real printing costs with it. How much of ink does it come with and what is the cost of replacements?

    • Comes with HP60 black and HP60 colour ink, good for 200 and 170 prints respectivly.
The HP 60xl black and colour are good for 600 and 480 prints. As usual the ink is a lot cheaper online.

  • Had a look at this on the weekend and while it looks real nifty, it is pretty sizable (it's flat but wide) and heavy. Will give it a pass.

Same width as my DVD player. Looks good in my TV cabinet. Heavy? Not going to lift this often :)

    "is it a great deal."

Going to go with "No". Ozbargainers will print for free @ the office.
True ozbargainers will find an office job too if they don't have one :D

    • I agree, and that is where I do most my printing. But the convenience to have a Printer, Scanner and Copier at home for that odd copy is very useful for those odd prints on the weekend.

      • very handy in fact. especially printing from an IPAD. :-)

  • On a more helpful note, $45 at HN buys you a full set of ink (black + three colours). I have concerns over the size of the tanks, I wouldn't expect it to print many pages. But you'd need to do some research to know.

If you're only ever going to print a handful of things (like me) then a cheap price and compact size really isn't too bad. Volume printing, likely not a good choice (is this thing marketed at volume printing of photos or what?? dunno..)

    • If you've got one mate, how about opening up the manual and reading out the "number of pages per cart" and letting us know? Also, see if it comes with full size ink tanks or "starter tanks" which are often half-sized. If the manual doesnt say anything about differing capacity ink tanks, then it probably comes with full sized ink tanks.

      • Comes with HP60 black and HP60 colour ink, good for 200 and 170 prints respectivly. (These are the $45 ones mentioned above)
The HP 60xl black and colour are good for 600 and 480 prints. As usual the ink is a lot cheaper online.

If you want to print volumes then you should probably get yourself a laser printer. If you want the convenience for the odd print at home and basic scanner and copier then still not a bad deal.

  • Lol I gotta stop the comments but they are all separate thoughts.

This also contains a flat bed scanner, for those that don't know. Reckon I'm calling this a deal then.

I have one in my living room mainly for use with the iPhones iPad and android devices, I like the way I can scan directly to my iPad, it's slow compared to my other printers. I recommend getting the 60xl cartridges the standard cartridges have a capacity of 175 pages is a joke. Hp had a promotion where you got $45 cash back if purchased with 2 cartridges I think it ends this week. Photo printing is a bit average even on ilford coated stocks. But for the price it's a little champ (wifi, iPhone/android, duplexing)

    • Unfortunately the cash back ended on the 30th of November so I missed it. You had to buy 2 Black 60xl inks for $20 off and/or 2 60xl colour for $30 off. On line sellers prices are inline with these discounts without having to buy 2 at a time.

      • Just the standard inks I effectively got a set for $2, the ink was $47 and cashback was $45 I just received an email from hp yesterday saying I would get my cashback mid February. I also scored a set of xl's on eBay for $52

  • i might get one from HN, try grab bargain together with their LED TV…..wonder how much bargain i will get if i want to buy multiple items at the same time:)

    • You can ask I got mine from jbhifi price matched to $98 from 245 they also knocked $18 off the cartridges

Word of advice this printer has one serious flaw it can go into a endless loop if you update the firmware from the touchscreen I eventually got it working after googling the answer keep pressing the touchscreen buttons in order anticlockwise till the menu comes up. Better off updating the firmware from a pc.

    • I was concerned of this and even mentioned this on the last post. I ran 2 updates yesterday via wifi and had no issues at all. I had to run the updates to get the apps to work. I figured if I ran in to issues on the first day, HN would take it bake for a refund. Still unsure why some people are having the problem, seems to be random, or are people not doing something correctly? I did everything via the printer, I did not use or connect a PC to run the updates.

  • I don't get it. Just install AirPrint enabler for mac and use ANY printer.

  • How easy is it to setup the email printing feature?
Does it print any emails that it receives?
I need it for mobile printing in my car.
Are there better/smaller printers for mobile printing with eprinting feature?

    • +1

Email printing was easy and you can create your own email address. [email protected]
I tested it last night and it worked fine and even sent a confirmation email when printed.
I don't think this would be a good printer for the car, but I am unsure if any of the Cannon or HP mobile printers would have eprinting.

  • ummm Cant believe no one has asked this but, what is the print quality like?
    good for photos??

    • If you want to print photos, then this is probably the wrong printer for you. Only has an all in one colour ink cartridge and would also be slow and use a lot of ink. I don't print photos on an ink jet any more. I either get them printed at a photo place if I have a few, or for the odd one off print, I use a Canon Selphy printer.
