Get 10% Cashback Every Saturday in December (Max $30 Back Per Transaction) Using Tap & Pay @ Zip

8761

There seems to be a lot of confusion based on the comments so let me try and clarify how this works:

  1. Sign up to Zip Pay. Not Zip Money. You can use the 'Related Offers' at the bottom of this description for new signup options. Note that you must provide your email address or phone number if you want a referral, there’s no referral link and you can’t be referred without that info!
  2. Download the Apple or Android app and sign in with your details. You will need a smartphone with NFC.
  3. Go to the "Cards" tab within the Zip app. Click on Add to Apple Wallet (or Google Wallet if using android).
  4. Go to any store that accepts tap & go on credit/debit cards. Do not ask if they accept Zip Payment as this is a separate payment method.
  5. Purchase anything (any gift cards, services, goods, literally anything) and checkout with Apple Pay or Google Pay by tapping your digital Zip card on Saturday. Do not spend more than $300 in one transaction if you want to maximise your benefit as you won't get 10% back above $300!
  6. You should see the rewards balance reflected under "Rewards" within the "Your Zip" tab of the app immediately.
  7. Once you have reached $30 in credit, click on the redeem button to apply the credit to your account.
  8. Pay off your Zip account by linking a credit card to earn points and defer payment (The screen says debit card but many have confirmed credit cards to work as well - Amex will not work). It takes 3 days for processing payments to finalise and you cannot make additional payments sooner than that.
Things to note:
  • Applying for a Zip account will trigger a credit check.
  • Redeemable once you've reached $30 in credit (I.e. Min spend $300)
  • Rewards balance will continue accruing even if you don't redeem $30.
  • There's no daily limit. The only limit is your credit limit.
  • Apple Pay and Google Pay don't have a $100 tap and pay limit like normal cards. The limit is unlimited since you biometrically authenticate yourself at the time of payment.
  • You cannot prepay your zip account via BPAY so that it goes into credit. I contacted Zip and they informed me that since they’re not a bank they’re not allowed to hold deposits. If you prepay your account you will be breaching their T&Cs and your account may get blocked. It will take a few days to unblock. Do so at your own risk, some have reported success while others have confirmed they got blocked.
  • You cannot make payments online.
  • Max $30 back per transaction.
  • Excludes Westfield gift cards purchased from Westfield
  • On days other than Saturday, you can still earn 3% or 5% cash back that will accrue towards your rewards balance.
  • Within a twenty-four (24) hour period, you (a) are limited to redeeming your Reward Goal eight (8) times, and (b) will not earn any further credit back if you spend $4,000 or more.
  • 10% back on Super Saturdays will override all other cashback offers with lower % back.
  • By end of 8 January 2021, any credit back that has not reached the Reward Goal will be cancelled.

            • @Homr: How is it 60days from Zip? And isnt there the $6 account fee if there is a balance?

              • @avitherock: let say you make a purchase on 1st January, that purchase will hit your January statement which comes out on 1st February and you have till end of February to pay that balance off. That's approx 60 days

                • +1

@Homr: But if u have a balance in the january balance, they wud charge u the account fee??

                  • @avitherock: I believe you have until end of February to pay of your balance to avoid the $6 account fee?

What are the fees associated with Zip pay?

Your Zip Pay account has a monthly account keeping fee of $6. However, this is only charged when you have an outstanding balance at the end of the month.

You'll receive a statement with the closing balance of the month on the 1st day of the following month. You have until the end of the month to pay off your balance for the account to remain fee-free.

For Example: If you make two purchases in February, you'll receive a statement on the 1st of March showing how much you owe for these two purchases. You'll then have until March 31st to pay this amount without being charged the $6 account keeping fee. If you do not pay the statement balance in full by the 31st of March, a $6 monthly account service fee will be charged on the account on the 1st of April.

                    • +1

@Homr: You're spot on. I have asked zip support multiple times and they have all failed in answering that simple question.

                  • +1

@avitherock: No, as long as the balance is not from your spend in Dec or earlier.

In other words, your spend before 1 Jan must be all cleared by 31st Jan to avoid monthly fee, regardless of how much you spend in Jan.

  • I just checked my award activities. There is one transaction "rewards adjust" today and take aways the rewards I earn from Woolworth gift card purchased 2 weeks ago. Anyone have the same problem? Why this happen? Weird!

    • Did you have any refunds or problems with that transaction?

      • No refund at all

    • I got a rewards adjustment too. Rewards balance is now in -ve. Didn’t notice before but there was rewards given for a Prezzee gift card transaction which failed.

Just stop using zip till it goes away?

      • Same here? Oddly just 1 adjustment but has put the rewards into negative, lucky I had redeemed the rest earlier. Basically pay off zip balance and stop using…

      • No adjustment for me, yet. I bet its coming though, which is fair.

    • Also got the adjustment, will this present any issues with account closure? Or should we wait until after the reward period ends on Jan 8.

  • Any one refunded something? I wonder what happens to the rewards if you refund the purchase?

Say I spent 300 at bunnings. Claimed the $30 Rewards and redeemed. What happens if i return the item say 30 days later?

    • +1

Should any transaction be cancelled, refunded, or varied in any manner the applicable credit back will be adjusted in accordance with the cancellation, refund, or variation

This Offer is subject to your Zip Pay Account remaining open and being kept in good standing for the duration of the Offer Period and until the credit back amount is applied to your nominated Zip Account.

      Open to interpretation…

Just refund to another card. Most cashiers do not check card numbers.

  • I've got $1000 bill to pay today, unfortunately, wasn't open Saturday to do the zip and tap for 10%….so $30 will have to do.

Except, I'm still waiting for all my Saturday purchases to clear, ($900) so I can pay that off before using zip again.

Shows as pending, so can't clear the balance, but then also can't use the zip either.

Just a waiting game now unfortunately

  • Did a $150 Aldi shop today and their gift cards did not work because their system was down. Drawback of having giftcards :(

    • +1

Should have left the $150 of items at the register, I'm sure they'd find a way to make it work ;)

      • It's Aldi - they hardly care about customers. They have one of the worst associates i have encountered.

      • I did leave it. they said we can keep them aside for you while you organised payment. I had pay for them via credit card plus their surcharge.

        • Would have told them to enjoy repacking the shelf.

  • -5

Both of us can't claim $30 reward after claiming $240. Looks like it blocks you after you claim $240, scam?

I have $150 remaining and can't claim any more rewards

    • +2

      Wait 24hrs and try again…

    • Why not claimed them in December? Claiming them in Jan is most likely not considered as repayments for Dec unless you clear all the balance at the end of this month.

If you'll spend $390 in Jan, the $390 rewards will be considered to pay off the $390 spend in Jan rather than your owing balance in Dec. You might get charged monthly fee for not paying full Dec balance off.

    • @takutox have you tried since? T&c mentions limit of 8 redemptions a day = $240. Works after a day or 2. But I’ve had an negative adjustment since…

Tried to pay Strata bill by using The Perfect EftPost card at both local Post office got rejected and criticized me "Dishonest"…Never buy Gift Card again ever!!!!

    • What do you mean by "Dishonest"?

      • Try to pay by using Eftpost card

  • My Reward balance has been adjusted so now it’s negative. Probably due to that unsuccessful transaction before.

    • Same here. Gone from $20.89 to -$9.11. With that I’d hope it means I’ll just leave it and have $9.11 deducted from my balance, or better yet have the amount waived altogether. Either way, it feels hardly worth spending to go back to positives.

      • I reckon we can close account once the main balance is paid off. So reward balance doesn’t matter.

        • +1

Not bad, although I’d prefer to keep my account running, hopefully increase my limit to $1500 and be ready if they ever run this promotion again.

          • @eyebrows7: I know but that negative balance really annoys me. Would start from scratch then.

    • -1

Perhaps don't redeem the negative amount ;-)

  • Zip should change their system at least not count the pending transaction toward available balance so you can make payment back. I don't understand how they do business, it is like they don't want ppl to use their service. Many transactions is pending for 4 days which means you can only use their service once a week.

How on earth a company running business that discourage ppl from using their service. Pending transaction should be reducing the available balance and they should have let ppl pay it back to the credit limit at least.

    • -1

Even better, it should allow repayment at anytime.

I agree with you, the current process is awkward and discourages frequent use.

(Mind you, the current method also limited the rewards amounts which savvy and/or cashed up customers could accrue.)

      • That is not a problem since they have already have max limit in T&C, 8x $30 redemption and $4000 per 24hours (should have just made it per day instead so it is easier to track).

  • Don’t know if anyone is still following this thread but I’m belatedly trying to make up $8 worth of rewards before Friday. I have tried paying a couple of bills at AusPost with no luck ☹️ Will I need to buy $300 worth of gift cards I don’t want?

    • do you not have any spending to make?

    • +1

$160 gift card /fuel from bp

  • Thanks I think I can pay rates at council HQ. Post Christmas no I don’t have much spending I want to do and no car. Can’t believe I overlooked this thread! So much helpful info…

  • I hope I haven't screwed up. After the Boxing day purchase (the last Saturday of the 10% offer) I had $14.72 in rewards. I thought I will sort it out later, so I thought I better do it today (better than tomorrow timewise), then as I was driving down to Coles I did some maths in my head and realised I need to spend $524 for 3% to make up the remaining $15.28 to reach the $30 reward. Only problem my limit is $500!!

I spent the $500 at Coles on the hope the transaction processes overnight so I make a $24 payment, then $24 purchase bringing me to have $30 which I'd redeem and spend right away. If it doesn't process overnight I'm screwed. I recall somewhere in this thread where it discussed the process times for retailers, although where in the 26 pages I don't know - does anybody know off the top of their head?

    • +2

      Coles usually processed overnight

      • Ace, looks like I'm back to Coles in the morning!

    • coles is fast in clearing. you should be fine.

  • So i'm half way in my current rewards balance, at $15 approx.
If i don't get it to $30 and claim it by friday i'm going to lose that reward balance?

    • Yeah

      • -2

what a joke, this whole promo reeks of dodgy.. i'm all for the cash back but taking away balances earnt is just shoddy

        • +6

I think Zip Pay have been quite transparent about that whole way through. I was aware despite almost screwing up myself.

I'm assuming they wanted to extinguish the liability on their books from the promo rather than have a small residual amount which would have been the case for thousands who would not have done anything with it.

          • +1

@GSP01: They could have just applied the small balances to people’s accounts

  • I had $29.05 sitting in my rewards balance, so I was checking the app today to see that I'd have to spend about $32 to hit the $30 to redeem. But now I notice my rewards balance is actually -$0.95 and that there's an adjustment transaction of -$30. How can they be taking away the rewards balance early when I was so close to reaching the target? And it hasn't been credited to my available spend balance either.

    • Isn't that different?
Appears they have reversed a redemption for some reason… Contact them?

    • Zip systems dont inspire much confidence. So many miscalculations so far!

  • +1

Cutting it close. Just bought 100 Preezee gc to make it $30 rewards. Still pending though

  • +1
    • it happened to me, I bought 1 card on the 4/1 and the next day it is used to pay for Vodafone (maybe recharge). I checked the packaging and it seems not been tampered. I still can't work out how they did it.

I have called to report and what they did is block the card and ask me to submit a statutory declaration dispute form. They have refunded the fraudulent transaction and I called Auspost to get my card unblocked. I have to quickly used up the balance right away. The card number is the same so how do they expect the scammer not to use my balance again?!?

The thing that worries me is that not like the Coles MC fraud in which the packaging is clearly tampered with this Auspost card packaging seems intact.
Secondly, they don't even have a proper procedure to deal with this. How do they expect to solve the problem by crediting back the money with the same card detail?? I'm not sure if I should even post this here in public.

For checking balance you have to register with your email address and you can't register again if it has been registered so I wonder how these scammer got the card number with balance. I maybe a bigger security breach so I suggest ppl should avoid these cards for now.

    • They should have learned from Only1 if someone check the card balance before it is activated (i.e purchase) the system blocked the card and it can't be activated.

This at least mitigate some risk that scammer copied the card detail and checking balance hoping someone already bought it.

    • +1

For those of you who have bought this card with Zip promo, this maybe a simple way to temporarily block the card and just call to unlock when you need to use it.

      1. Quickly register the card to check balance.
      2. Buying a WW discount giftcard from ww portal i.e RACV, NRMA or any channel that use WW giftcard portal. The reason is this card stupid security system block the card for this transaction, you can't use it to buy WW discount gc. This can be used as a quick way to block the card.
      3. Once you want to use this card just call Auspost gc on 1800 549 718 to unblock it. You should try to use up these card asap by either buying Coles discount gc if your reward portal works with this AGL is one of them, paying bill… If you can't use step 2 above to block the card in the mean time.
      • Thanks for the info. I just checked mine from workplace as a Xmas gift. It is still intact.

When people received it as a gift, it is harder to dispute as the original receipt may be lost.

        • If you can't use it up now, you may consider the trick above to suspend the card and just call to unblock when you need to use it.

I bought $500 and the fraudster used $250 for Vodafone. I guessed they couldn't check the balance and just tried to use it.

    • +1

Auspost Mastercard GC is issued by Heritage Bank. Vanilla gift card is also issued by Heritage Bank. I will be more careful in the future if I buy Vanilla GC as well.

      • Correct.

Complaints can be made to the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA) about Heritage Bank.

    • thanks. decided to spend my last $500 on amazon e-gift card.

      • I bought 2 gift cards on a different date from the same Auspost shop. The first one I didn't use it until 10days later with no problem but my 2nd one has fraudulent transaction on the next day. I went back to the shop to check their other gift card packaging and it doesn't look like it is tampered with. My card packaging also doesn't look like it has been tampered either.

  • Has anyone made any Zip repayment by your credit card for this month? Seems like some banks treat this payment as a cash advance… Certainly my bank Bankwest is. Wondering if some of you are also experiencing the same with other bank credit card :(

    • No, a repayment made on 8th still yielded reward points.

      • Thanks, if you dont mind me asking what bank is it?

    • Did you make any Zip repayment last month (December) using the same bank/account? If you did, was it treated as a cash advance or purchases?

      • It was treated as purchase. I received reward points.

        • Sorry, the above question was in response to espumpros' comment above.

Has anyone made any Zip repayment by your credit card for this month? Seems like some banks treat this payment as a cash advance… Certainly my bank Bankwest is. Wondering if some of you are also experiencing the same with other bank credit card :(

I also did make some Zip repayments and my bank treated them as purchases.

          • @ifuggedxyz: I couldn't use my Bankwest CC for Zip repayment for some reasons in Dec. But I could this month and now my bank has confirmed that that transaction is cash advance - not purchase after the repayment was made. I might start using another Bank's CC for Zip repayment, so which bank are you with?

            • @espumpros: How do u confirm it is cash advance?

              • @avitherock: Just contact your bank and ask them about your transaction. Some banks may categorise Zip repayment as a personal loan and treat as cash advance like Bankwest

                • @espumpros: Just had a chat with Bankwest and then confirmed the payment to Zip has been booked as Purchase and not Cash Advance

                  • @avitherock: Maybe he paid off his Zip Money, not Zip Pay. Two different products.

                    • @Neoika: No, I'm talking about Zip Pay and I can confirm that Bankwest has certainly charged me $4 as a cash advance fee. So 100% what I have mentioned above is true. Avoid using Bankwest CC for Zip Pay and if you are not getting charged for it from them, that's what I want to know how you did. Good for you.

  • Those that overpaid with bpay and were told to do reversals, have you received your reversals?

    • Reversals can only be done in a very specific set of circumstances.

Zip Pay is effectively asking you to be dishonest to your financial institution about the nature of the of BPAY transaction in order to initiate a transaction reversal.

On this link, Zip provides very different advice: https://zip.co/hc/en-us/articles/360001592156-My-account-is-…

      • Yes I've quoted that, they said that is for a different circumstance, where your account becomes in credit due to a refund.

Argued over multiple calls, escalated to manager etc etc, the only way out was to get them reversed, which by now is close to 4 weeks already and have not received the payment, so checking what others experiences have been with the reversals/disputes.

        • +1

they said that is for a different circumstance, where your account becomes in credit due to a refund

Zip is making stuff up as it goes along. Zip's customer service, in my view, is woeful. The first line of that help page lists two circumstances in which an account balance can fall into credit:

Your account can be in credit from over payment, or from having an order refunded.

          • Over payment, and
          • Having an order refunded

As each contact with Zip results in a changed position, there is no point in arguing with its representatives. See above, they just make stuff up.

I have lodged a complaint with AFCA.

    • They have deducted the money from my Zip account and today I got message from my bank that BPay reversal has been rejected. I have emailed them asking for explanation with no reply yet. You should call your bank for update and if Zip doesn't reply you, you should lodge complaint with AFCA

      • Who rejected the BPAY reversal request? Your financial institution or Zip?

        • Bank said it is Zip. I'm still waiting for Zip explanation

          • @samehada: Zip doesn't know what it is doing.

          • @samehada: Yea their CS is rubbish. You would expect having them all in Australia would make things better. Actually much worse than offshore call centres as these people dare to argue…..

            • @tajid: They just replied me asking me to cancel the BPAY reversal request? This is really like a joke, Zip is the one who rejected the request so they should have known better that the BPAY reversal has failed. Anyway I have told them to refund to my bank account. They have been holding on my fund for 1 month now.

              • @samehada: That is a bloody joke. They have not even responded me.

                • @tajid: You should send a follow up email and call them up.

They have just created this mess by themselves, they should have just put a limit as what they wanted in T&C and not blocking ppl account and create this whole mess. They should have also change the way they count the available balance so ppl can pay back and use their service again. I am not how their management team running their business.

              • @samehada: It seems like they are intentionally stuffing you around.

                • @YesPleaseThankYou: anyway I have emailed them the letter I got from the bank. Just annoying since bank kept asking you to wait for up to 30 days for BPAY reversal so I can't do anything until now. What a waste of time.

                  • @samehada: I ended up going with AFCA, after wasting hours the last couple days and didn’t go anywhere. My emails have been not responded. I will them deal with AFCA. They will get fines out of this and we may at least get compensated for our time.

They literally stole our money and putting blame that we violated our contract.

                    • @tajid: so what did Zip reply you? and what did yout bank say?
