I dont get it. Why don't they drop the price by 5k?

    • +5

      Blame Cashrewards and shopback :)

    • +5

      inflating revenue figures.

    • +11

To artificially retain car prices and values as they can still publish sales at more or less full prices. It will also help to retain used car prices.

      • This is the same technique with new houses and apartments throwing in free inclusions

    • +3

All of the above are correct. In addition business buyers could claim a bit more in upfront gst and depreciation as the tax man would be unaware of the cashback.

    • +2

      It's not an MG

    • +9

How is Volvo crap. They've always had the highest safety ratings. They'd be just as good as your average Euro cars on the road.

      • +2

Volvo is wholly owned by Geely.

Geely is partially state owned (China).

Also they are made in China.

        • -1

Some are. Arguably an increase in quality control in the newer Chinese plants.

        • +2

XC90 is made in Sweden still

        • +2

Oh they must be a national security threat then! The Libs has done a mighty fine job in brainwashing this country to the point where even Volvo cars are now affected. These cars are made in Europe. I've been looking at the low end XC40 and pretty sure its made in Europe. Theres probably one model somewhere in their entire lineup thats from China and its the one you make to associate with Volvo…

          • +2

@fuzor: Volvo is still a Chinese owned company, no amount of weasel words can change that.

            • +2

@ProlapsedHeinous: So what. You seem triggered. Lambos are owned by Germans, Jags are owned by Indians, Holdens owned by Americans. Has Holden's suddenly become as unreliable as Cryslers? I dont think so.

              • -5

@fuzor: you really dot get it do ya? see whats going on around the country mate.. must be Chinese background this guy

          • @fuzor: XC40 has been confirmed for sale in Australia from late 2020. According to a previous announcement, it is scheduled to be made in China

      • Safety aside, I heard Volvo are one of the most unreliable brands, the XC90 especially.

Cashback redeemable if I use 50k Volvo gift cards? Recently brought them at 20% from coles. ;)

    • +15

Sorry to break it to you, I think you bought Vovo biscuit giftcards, not Volvo gift cards

      • -2

        Epic

      • Biscuit = Vo Vo

        • +1

Well technically they are called Iced VoVo. The Iced VoVo is Kevin Rudd’s favourite biscuit. Kevin Rudd is fluent in Mandarin Chinese. The Chinese carmaker Geely owns Volvo. Volvos are now manufactured in China…..

And all your base are belong to us

        • Speaking of VoVo. I don’t want to come across racist but this is what I’ve noticed:

How the rest of the world pronounces it = Volvo

How mainland Chinese pronounce it = VoVo

Well it is owned by the Chinese now, so I think I’ll have to follow suit

  • +4

Cashback, rebate, discount - all same same. The $5k is pretty much them removing some of the on-road costs.

Also $5k is hardly an incentive for a $70k+ car

  • moving liabilities to next year and showing better figures this year, accounting trcikery

  • So, free stamp duty and rego then.

  • +5

    I love the XC60.

    I want the XC60.

But I cannot spend that much for a Geely.

    • Yeah, similar thing with Range Rover and Jaguar. It’s alright, just being poor.

    • +1

We own the current gen XC60, after upgrading from the previous model 2 years ago.

      It's a wonderful car.

We've owned German cars before, but the XC60 is next level in comfort and build quality. The BMW I owned started rattle after a year of ownership, no such issues with our Volvo's.

If you can get over the Chinese ownership, it's definitely worth considering.

      • +1

        Thank you.

If it wasn't for Geely I would have an XC60 instead of my lamentable Q5.

  • Assuming this will mean dealers won't negotiate on price as they'll point to the cash back

    • I work in the industry , and the price you are able to negotiate with the dealer may be determined from how the promotion has been arranged by the factory , behind the scenes.
It could be that the dealer has to contribute up to 50% of the amount cash back to the customer , so your normal everyday discount may be reduced by the amount they have already had to subsidize.

  • This has been the offer for over a month now I believe.

  • Love Volvos but would rather buy them used as they are depreciation kings just like the fabulous French cars.

  • +1

Thanks op brought 9, last one left hurry up.

Grab yours before it get sold out .LOL 🤣

  • Volvo have come a long way, too bad the offer isnt on the XC40.
Im glad they FINALLY introduced better servicing deals, about a year ago they wanted close to $1200 per service… which was a joke!

If you are interested in any car, be sure to check with your employer sometimes you'll be part of there corporate program and will get some extra benefits!

  • +2

You can negotiate usually 10 or more percent off the driveaway price of a new car.

This is them locking you out of getting that high of a discount.

  • Nice to see people can afford to buy new cars. I will stick my nearly 20 year old car

  • For such a big car, it’s a tiny 4 cylinder milk bottle…no thanks.

  • Omtanke

  • @OP, all Volvos in stock, not just the xc series.
