          • @SamyKn: yep, this is where they save the most money. the mobo probably only costs them $25 a pop, if that. They would have a massive contract with foxconn or whoever produces the boards, making custom (not in a good way) boards with no frills, cutting off all the usual ports and anything that can save them even 20c per unit. And they have a lot of bargaining power. they will also err on the side of crappy PSU etc, and just pay to replace it if dies, because it works out way cheaper than using quality components.

My 10yr old PC with i5 2500k is still going strong, OC'd to 4.6ghz since I bought it. Not that that is a usual situation, but when you custom build your own rig, you over-engineer it, selecting hardware with much deliberation, and then assembling it yourself is very satisfying. This dell is still a great deal if you're not into that though.

            • @eggboi: My i7 930 @ 4.2Ghz + HD 7970 still going strong, have nfi why I just bought the XPS… got OzB'd.

    Beyond beautiful.

imagine playing Baldur's Gate III in this

  • +2

Hi assuming you can add more RAM does anyone know what the max is? Imagine this would do fine for video editing / photochop?

    • +2

Ram is capped at 2933 Mhz even if you have faster ram installed

      • pc noobs here … first time i see 2933 MHz RAM .. normally 3000, 3200, 3600

        EDIT: this answers it.

    • Thanks. Do you know why the '32GB, 4 x 8 GB' set up is not supported?

  • +1

Thanks OP , just got one!!

    • +1

      Happy pew pew gaming!

  • +1

    Sounds like a beast

  • +3

Alright, this is a great deal.

Too bad I don't need a Desktop PC

  • +2

I have the DELL XPS 1070 variant of this desktop - had a lot of crashes/restart in my previous place where it would get really hot during summer.
This case* is different but mine is quite hard to clean and deal with in general. It feels like its built more akin to an office desktop repurposed for gaming. Upgrading parts is a chore for mine and perhaps it might be better in this casing.
Performs decently for 1080 or 1440 (avg quality) gaming. Personally I'll recommend a proper gaming PC build (RGB or otherwise) over this.

    • +2

Buyers have the option of extending warranty which should cover issues like this. You have to contact Dell within eBay and they will get back to you with the warranty options and then put up a seperate listing.

      • What's the expected life of a brand new pre-built desktop pc? Don't let them charge you to utilise your consumer rights by law.

        • +1

True I guess. But I expect you would have to put up a pretty big fight to get them to do stuff out of warranty whereas in warranty it's fast and relatively few questions asked for even the smallest of issues.

          • +1

@lukethefish: Yeah for sure. I say that but i'm kinda saying to myself if anything

  • +2

    Got one.
    Thanks.

  • +1

Does the motherboard have m.2 slots?

  • Guess this would mainly be used by gamers? Who else is buying beasts like this?

    • Great for gaming, streaming or video/photo editing.

  • +2

Be aware that somehow DELL capped the RAM speed at 2933 and there are numbers of people complaining abt this.

    • This is an Intel chipset level issue. If it came with a Z series chipset, ram speeds would be completely unlocked. But OEM prebuilts usually don't.

  • Hi op, do you know what brand and model the GPU is?

    • Not as good of a deal as the post OP made - RTX 3070 is leaps and bounds from a 1660Ti, you get an unlocked intel processor (though with the Dell cooling I'm not confident on the overclock headroom), double the SSD and HDD storage.

  • You can apply the eBay Swap cards from woolies. Further $200 off from the two stacked offer!

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/583545?page=1#comment-9682…

    • +1

you can only use 5 eBay gift cards per transaction

      • That's crap. What's the highest denomination of Swap's gift card? If $100 then, yes you're not saving that much

        • Ive definitely used more than 5 GC in an eBay purchase. I think it was $1500 cap from memory

  • +2
  • If only it also had a Ryzen 5000 series CPU instead of Intel

  • 500w psu……………mmm… very interesting.

    • I ran an HTPC w/ a 200w PSU + GTX 1070 + i5 6600, never crashed.

  • +5

This kills Techfast deal, and it has activated Windows!

    • -5

hahahhaha…. keep in mind that Dell shipping speed is slower than techfast.

      • With the nickname of techslow you’ll be wrong

  • +6

Bought one! Using for some noob gaming, video editing, and music production. CBF in my old age to worry about building myself etc like the old days.

    • Mate it keeps they grey matter, ummmm, more creamy coloured… cable routing is thereputic.

  • +1

Great price, just letting you know that PLUS3 doesn't stack since eBay only allows for a single discount code to be used at a time.

    • Thanks for the input, I'll update OP

  • +1

Well now I'm just angry I spent all that time building a PC from individual parts.

    • +3

Wouldn't trade that for the world, had heaps of fun building mine and have the confidence to modify whatever parts. Do the same with my car.

    • +4

The real build value is the friends you made along the way.

      • +4

        or lose :P

  • +1

order one, price is too good to resist.

    • Lol try using your Xbox for work then.

      • -2

Why would I use a Xbox for work, while it retains the work look, power to ratio consumption, and everything else including quick swap ssd for work presentation, INFACT the series X is s godsend.

But I'm sure someone will create a windows mode, anything is possible.

But no idea what your talking about

        • If it was so possible then why didn't they do it with the Xbox One?

          • -1

@nxllson: What do you mean they? If your familiar with graphs you'll know two things:

1 we are in a pandemic and uncertainty is certain.

            And:

2 I wasn't refering to them rather the DIY community.

            • @[Deactivated]: "they" = community. Neither have done it.

So why exactly are we using graphs here? I don't need to know about graphs to know how stupid you are.

        • i think no one has ever converted a gaming console into a proper desktop pc.

oth, there are emulators of consoles that run on pcs.

    • -1

The fact that you just compared an i7-10700k / RTX 3070 to a Xbox Series X outrages me. If you're such an Xbox fanboy, then go ahead and use it instead of making such a stupid statement; you cannot get anywhere near what the RTX 3070 is capable of with a console.

Some people don't get this just for gaming, productivity is essential; Blender, Premiere Pro require a high-end graphics card to run efficiently with hardware acceleration - whereas consoles are solely intended for games.

      • -1

Oh off the topic of gaming, the Xbox series X decimates, it's more than capable for blender, try pitching one to your board members at conference, they'd choose the Xbox series X because it sits right up there with the apple 2013 trashcan.

        • So now you're saying the Xbox Series X is at the same level as a 7-year old Mac Pro system? Might be correct, but in no way is it close to the Dell XPS listed in the OP.

          • @nxllson: Actually the series X is more totalitarian then dell, if I could think of a system more built for the corporate sector it would look like a series X, why its sleek minimal, has access to storage accessibility, it's power consumption is low, it's Powerful machine.

The Dell looks like a boring as piece of tech, and yes it's still overpriced, and I could reduce that cost even with a coupon reduction, that intel CPU a dinosaur.

            • @[Deactivated]: Sorry but, either there's something wrong with you - or you're just trying to piss people off on purpose. Either way, you're one of those cases where it's not worth arguing 😂

      • Pretty sure he was just joking… you know it's the usual joke, about how a PS5/XBX costs $750.

  • +2

Thanks OP, there is my sons Christmas present locked in.

    • +1

      Merry Xmas

    • +18

      dad, is that you?

      • +1

That was a long run to the pub.

    • dad ~

    • -1

You must hate that kid to buy this for him

  • Does anyone here have a Dell XPS 8940? How hard is this to upgrade/ are their thermal issues? Could I just move parts to a better case and add extra cooling easily?

  • …i kinda regret buying parts to build myself now lmao

  • +2

Well that's a deal and a half. Holy shit.

  • +3

Part of me really wants this value, the other part just wants to build a desktop.
I almost enjoy building more than using it lol. But it seems hard to beat these specs in a build for the same price.

    • +1

Also if you build yourself, not only is it more fun and you can spec every part, but you can upgrade bits as you go. Honestly this would not be such a great deal if the 3070 wasn’t so scarce. I’ll be doing a build in several months when prices and supply calm down and a 3060ti can be had for around $600 or maybe even less.

  • -3

I could reduce the cost of that system to $399 in saved parts from it's current price with out Dells meddling.

    • +1

Meddling is a highly inappropriate word to use in this instance - their branding is completely fine at this price. You won't be able to build a PC yourself for under $2k with the same specs; and you're taking it out of context with "saved parts".

Please stop budging into these type of deals, your opinions are unwanted.

      • What the hell are you on, to instantiate meddling is in appropriate, maybe for you and your limited capabilities.

    • How would you do that?

  • -1

The thing that disappoints me about the XPS 8940 and recent XPS is they got rid of the 6 port audio, and just replaced it with 3 port.

Bit of a petty cost saving measure, for a $4000 machine (in this case).

  • Damn I just bought their g7 17 7700 about a month ago for the same price. If I could refund it and get this instead I would in a heartbeat. ):

    • next year there could be a deal with 3090 at a really good deal, who knows.

      • -1

I pitty your depenency, and assumptions.

  • @KeRRR can we get it in white?

    • sorry, this only comes in black :(

  • Really hope they can get these shipped in a timely manner :')

  • I wish I had 2K to splurge on this….:)

  • +1

decided to get one, last time i bought a pc was 10 years ago with that amd 90 something which automatically shuts down due to too much heat.

hopefully this can at least play the msfs at 1440p.

    • Should of waited until 6:00 pm used shopback and got another $200 off.

      • huh. An extra $200 off? How do I use shopback?

      • dont have shopback. it might get sold out soon. i prefer discts rather than this rewards.

thats nothing to the discount i got from a recent vehicle purchase.

      • +1

Different code - this code does not stack with the 6pm offer

        • Im confused. Will this new code then get $700 off?

  • +2

Had a friend who had the 1080 version (different cpu aswell) and he had so many over heating issues. Ended up returning the item after having to fight dell as they claimed it was software or hard drive errors.

  • +2

I'm just worried about the power (500w) & overheating issue

    • Got a year to thrash the shit out of it and find out i guess, in the middle of summer!

  • Bugger, I just bought the 8930 with RTX 2070 Super version yesterday, this build is only $80 more.

Does Dell let you change your order for ebay sales?
I sent them a message but no reply yet.

    • If it hasn't shipped yet, you can cancel and buy this deal. Contact the seller.
