@SamyKn: yep, this is where they save the most money. the mobo probably only costs them $25 a pop, if that. They would have a massive contract with foxconn or whoever produces the boards, making custom (not in a good way) boards with no frills, cutting off all the usual ports and anything that can save them even 20c per unit. And they have a lot of bargaining power. they will also err on the side of crappy PSU etc, and just pay to replace it if dies, because it works out way cheaper than using quality components.
My 10yr old PC with i5 2500k is still going strong, OC'd to 4.6ghz since I bought it. Not that that is a usual situation, but when you custom build your own rig, you over-engineer it, selecting hardware with much deliberation, and then assembling it yourself is very satisfying. This dell is still a great deal if you're not into that though.
