      I must admit something really embarassing. I didn't know Turkmenistan was a real country. I thought I was being trolled and it was made up like Genovia in that awful Princess Diaries "family movie" I have been subjected to on occasion. I'm handing in my geek card, and never riding a horse again..

        Well Turkmenistan is the most true-to-life caricature of Sacha Baron Cohen's The Dictator (with a bit of Borat thrown in), so you can be forgiven for thinking John Oliver just made up a fictitious Central Asian republic as an elaborate skit. Check out some of the footage on YouTube from tourists who've been to the capital Ashgabat, it makes Pyongyang look normal.
