Open Letter to Coles

Please, the Mince you selected was 2 days from Use by. It stunk. Couldn't eat it. Just be beware. That's all.

I have not personally contacted Coles cause of for some reason I don't want to complain. Otherwise Great everything!

Oh, you must be new to OZB…

        That's a fair call!

I'm just finding it difficult to understand why someone would post this. As others have pointed out Coles have a money back guarantee on stuff they sell (Albeit you need to contact them and not just post on Australia's most popular bargain site.)

I have a Coles product I’m unsatisfied with, how can I get a refund or replacement?

In accordance with our “Try It. Love it. Or Your Money Back.” guarantee, we encourage our customers to return the product, empty packaging or receipt of any Coles product they weren’t happy with, for a refund or replacement. This guarantee also applies to fresh produce and Delicatessen items.

I have a branded product I’m unsatisfied with, how can I get a refund or replacement? Please return to your local store with your receipt and the product if possible and our friendly team will assist you at the Customer Service Desk.

    https://www.coles.com.au/customer-care

You don't have to complain you can just go in store to get a refund or replacement with your receipt or packaging\product.

    • No offence don't most people just chuck it in the bin .
Not worth most people time and effort to return it .

      • +4

May be the case but you have the option to return it. Meat isn't exactly cheap anymore.

      • Just take the receipt with you on your next shopping trip and I'd say they will refund you no worries. They don't exactly want you bringing rotting meat into the store for them to deal with…

My giggilo service has the same guarantee

    Just be beware.

    Sounds like a threat..

@Coles, please do not send more "close to expiry, but still in date" food to ilove, as they do not mince words!

    • +5

He/she obviously has a beef against Coles

      • Some real "gears" to grind

      • I'm not sure if ilove can process what is happening here….

  • +6

I don't understand. Why wouldn't you just call them to complain and get a replacement?

  • +2

    Just be beware

You can't 'be beware'.. you can be aware of you can beware…

Unless you eat expired mince and in that case you can do whatever you want…

  • +7

I have not personally contacted Coles cause of for some reason I don't want to complain

LOL… so, you didn't contact the people that could make a difference and help get it sorted and maybe change procedure or check stock… And you then came onto an unrelated forum to Coles and "didn't" complain here…

Looks like a duck and quacks like a duck… chances are…

That settles it, Woolies > Coles

    • +1

      Nope.

      NQR > Woolies > Coles

      • If only NQR had some consistency in product offerings.

        • I once went into an NQR store and immediately I felt like something was not quite right, so I did a 180 and got the hell out of there.

  • +1

    Cool story bro

  • +3

    I thought I blocked this ****** a year ago.

  • I've only used home delivery a few times but mince was always the main culprit for this. The price of convenience. FWIW I've noticed recently a lot more products on supermarket shelves at/past their use-by date. Costco being the main offender but also Aldi/Woolies.

  • +2

Not sure why 4 people have reported this thread. I’d rather read this trash than the myriad of “I have no insurance and I/someone else phucked up posts…”.

What about the Good Guys Commercial deals? So useful…

    Ummm ok.

  • Woolies did similar to me. I called them. They did a refund for the item. End of story.

  • -5

    This is like a shoutout

  • -1

Mince you selected was 2 days from Use by

That's your fault for not checking the use by date before chucking it in your trolley.

  • +2

Old news been happening since 2010 masterchef got items from Coles https://www.ausfoodnews.com.au/2010/05/20/coles-expired-past…

OP, therefore your purchase is Working As Designed (WAD)

  • -2

Go to your local butcher for freshly ground beef, I don't know why people still shop for food and coles and woollies the quality is horrible

    • +4

my local butcher is far worst than I buy from wollies or coles. At least if I'm not happy about the freshness I can return it for a refund, not a chance from my local butcher, they'll tell ya get f**k in your face :)

    • +1

Because Coles and Woolies are so big, they've bought up the production of a lot of the high quality meat in Australia. Not to say there aren't butchers with good product out there, but by are large the producers that have quality and scale have been nabbed already by the duopoly

  • -2

I buy the mince for the magpies one;y…. people don't eat this crap

  • I stopped buying the reduced mince coz this happened to me once and I thought all the money I saved from buying reduced is wasted here so what's the point. Cbf taking it back

  • Maybe op should be an influencer and blog about rubbish all day

    • Who’d pay him to tell people where not to shop.

      • Competitors ?

  • +1

I should cut and paste this to their Facebook page.

This is not Coles. This is ozbargain.

  • Down down down to the bin 🤮

2 days from use by as in 2 days before or 2 days after?

  • My cat was complaining about a product called Cat Milk. Retailers have now taken action and put a sign there that no cat had to suffer during manifature.
I had returned all them salad sauces with the words free on the bottle and Coles given me all money back, no questions asked!

What the hell is this? When did OzBargain become the Coles service desk?

  • +1

    Open Letter to Coles

You should report it to the police.

    It's illegal to open other people's letters…

  • +1

No need to post silly, just take it back and they'll give you a full refund.

  • That's a very short letter

    • I thought it was way too long. It could have been = "Coles not bad but my meat stinks".

  • so an OzBargain whinge post is an open letter now?

  • I had someone pick my groceries for 20th time. this is the first time this happen

  • I once bought Big M from Coles that was way past the use by date and realised it after taking a sip..

    • You should start a forum post about it.

  • +1

Similar experience with Woolworths online, I've had milk, cream, chicken and beef delivered on the same day as the "use by" date. This is despite Woolworths tv ads claiming they employ fussy pickers and I do leave notes on each item requesting at least 7 days expiry for all diary and meat purchases.

I have no doubt that the pickers are told to fob off goods close to their expiry date to online shoppers. This helps to reduce the KPI stores are held to with regards to reducing markdowns. It has happened so many times, I have no doubt it is deliberate (at least at the store where my orders are picked from).

Thankfully Woolworths have their fresh or free promise where they offer to replace AND refund goods that do meet customers expectations with regards to freshness. You do have to go through a few hoops….. the online chatbots or the automated phone system for online orders will simply offer ONLY refund. So you need to press ahead through the automated system and speak or chat with a human. They will then email you a code for the value of the "unfresh" food delivered that can by used online for 1 year AND refund the value of these goods to your bank account within 2-3 days.

I have had several orders where I have claimed $20+ (on total orders of around $100). Thats $20 back into my bank account AND $20 off my next shop. I have no problems with making these claims because they are clearly (to me) fobbing of goods that should have been marked down AND charging me full price. Plus they claim to be the Fresh Food People. What a joke.

Finally, when talking with one of their CSR's, they told me that their guidelines for dairy are 5 days for packaged meat and dairy. 3 days for seafood. I have always taken photos and offered them….they are not required. I would rather just get fresh food in the first place, best when I don't, I expect them to honour their promise….and they do.

  • Lol

This is not an open letter to Coles.

This is just some thought disorder:

"A thought disorder is any disturbance in cognition that adversely affects language and thought content, and thereby communication."

  • their fresh food is terrible and always goes soggy and bad after a day or two. Don't buy Coles brand! Look at the product recalls on Coles website. Almost all are Coles brand.

  • How do you think, "Down, Down, Prices are Down" works?

'I have not personally contacted Coles cause of for some reason I don't want to complain'

I used to teach this about customer service

80% of unhappy customers will not complain to the business - but they will tell maybe 5 people

only maybe 20% of unhappy customers will complain directly - so if you're that business you should thank them for bringing that to your attention

I'm the guy who will complain - the last time I bought Coles pies from the freezer and they had refrozen so they broke when I tried to separate two stacked on top of each other, I just took them back to the store, got a replacement from the apologetic manager, and no worries.

I once complained about Quilton toilet paper when it came with too much glue so opening the roll was very difficult and would destroy several layers of the roll - they asked me to post the remaining to them - I did - cost me maybe $3 - they sent me a cheque for $20 as a thank you – and they fixed the problem so they no longer have too much glue

and many years ago I sent a letter to Paddington Chocolates - my favourite delicious Pulkownik Russian liqueur chocolates - saying that some I bought had tasted stale - in reply I got a very apologetic letter and a box of the freshest most delicious chocolates I've ever tasted !

    history - http://adb.anu.edu.au/biography/pulkownik-wladyslaw-walter-1… -
    https://www.unification.com.au/en/articles/1600558631/

so yeah - don't complain - you can continue to feel like a 'nice' person - while others can regard you as a doormat …

    • -2

but I don't want the person to get in trouble..

      • But what about the thousands of Ozbargain members that are suffering.
        Don't you care about us?

    • Yep. I but a lot of meat from Costco. Recently tried a different cut and it was poor. I tossed up whether to complain but I did and without even asking for a refund they offered it - $70. They said they would pass the feedback to their buying team. Everyone wins because I will keep buying there.

  • Not complaining is anti OzBargaining behaviour, you understand that by complaining they will give you a replacement product, yes?

  • Cool story bro

  • I like the OPs style. Sort of thing that goes in an open letter. Poor form from coles but happy with them

  • Often we would order a weeks worth of groceries for two adults, a decent portion of which would be delivered 1-2 days from expiry and particularly meat would be questionable.

I guess if you want to be lazy and pay a premium for delivery, that's what you get. We now shop for ourselves, lesson learnt!
