I have a followup question - which ciders are actually good (ie not sickly sweet)
If you want to experience real cider, look for a cider from Brittany (700cl). Could be a bit of a challenge to find but it's achievable and worth it.
Every now and then, I like to have an Orchard Thieves (plain, wouldn't go near the read apple) or Barossa cider. There's probably some excellent small producers but where I live it's not easy to find anything besides main stream (yuk!) cider.
