New policy in Liquorland that hasn't been advertised widely yet - Not a deal in itself, but will allow better deals for more people who don't live near a Dan Murphys!

They've implemented a price match policy. It's similar to the Bunnings approach where you have to go and ask staff to match price, whereas Dan's will proactively beat prices online.

With 700 Liquorland stores in Aus vs 250 Dan's stores, this should make accessing the best alcohol prices easier for everyone!

I don't understand how this is classified as a deal? Should all stores with a price match policy be posted as a deal as well?

    • +13

You're technically right… but it is good to know! Thanks OP!

    • +27

With this being a new policy and not advertised yet - I figured it's worth putting on OzB. Other stores that price match are well known (Bunnings, Dans, JB HiFi) but Liquorland is new? Is this better for forums?

    • +4

its something entirely new that saves consumers money.

    • +1

Yes. If its new or not widely known.

    • +8

It’s a deal for me, I don’t shop from liquorland as I always find things cheaper at Dan Murphy’s but I can start buying from there now that I know this (the nearest Dan is like 20 mins away from me and liquorland is like 5 mins away)

    • Not sure - the store manager at my local liquorland didn't know any T&C's and there are none posted online

    • +2

      Says 10km in the description

  • -4

Any idea if we can use Liquorland to price match Dan Murphys and then use Dan Murphys to price beat the Liquorland price match?

    Asking for a friend….

    • +2

      Is your friends name Leo?

    • +5

Don't be ridiculous. Price match is on an advertised price. Price matched prices are not advertised

    • +5

Why stop there? You should get Liquorland to price match Dan Murphy's price beat of Liquorland's price match of Dan Murphy's original advertised price.

      • and get stuck in a quantum time loop!

    • Price matchception.

If you are going to post this, at least offer the details:

note to self: post first, format nicely later :-)

    • +1

Couldn't find them online - updated now

    • Items in question must be identical

Fair enough but is this going to be like Bunnings where they will spend an hour trying to find a minor non-actual difference to deny the match?

  • +9

Same BS that Dan Murphys has now with its 10km radius.

Last time I tried a price match with DM they made it as hard as physically possible lol. Ended up just going to the lower priced store.

    Hopefully LL will be easier.

    • FCL did the same to me

  • +3

Lol 10km radius, guess ill go the extra 6 to Dan's.

  • good to know thanks OP

  • Thanks OP

This makes sense as Coles Group is getting rid of their First Choice Liquor branding (who offered a price match guarantee much like Dan Murphys) and changing all their liquor brands (First Choice, Vintage Cellars and Liquorland) to Liquorland.

Thanks for the public service announcement!

    • +3

I didn't know First Choice was being killed off. Probably not great as they provided a bit of competition to keep Dan's prices in check. Liquorland prices have never been that competitive

      • +2

It's not being killed off, just rebranded to "Liquorland Warehouse" and sharing th same website as Liquorland.

        • Would pricing be increased to Liquorland prices though

          • -1

@Grannular: Does that really matter though if they have a price-match policy? I live much closer to a LL than a DM, so I'll be taking advantage of this policy.

Unless you are buying house brands, which you can't price match but are priced below known brands anyway…

            Edit: Forgot about chain exclusives.

            • +1

@heef: Yes absolutely it does. If First Choice raises prices to that of Liquorland after the transition to LL Warehouse, then there is no reason for Dans to keep lower prices. Then there is nobody to match against. Everyones prices are higher and everyone pays more. FC was the only real price competition to Dans, which will no longer be there.

    • Good news. Vintage Cellars seems relatively expensive.

    • Makes sense from a business perspective.

  • +3

If it's within 10kms may as well just go to the other store.

    • -1

why drive further than you need to?

      • +4

To support the cheaper store and not be the tightass who asks for a price match and then has to wait 5 mins while they huff and make a fuss about price matching.

        But you do you.

        • Yup, I'll be going to the cheaper place since it's less than 10kms

        • hypothetically if you had a store 1km away vs cheaper store 9km away, you would drive the extra 8km to support the cheaper store?

          • @ltwo: 100% but I don’t live in a capital so 9km is nothing and I’ll probably be driving that way sooner or later anyway.

            Edit: and I like driving.

    • There are items that are exclusive to LL or Dans. Say you might want to get an item that is exclusive to LL and also another item that is common to both, may as well get the common item for cheaper if you can rather than driving to 2 stores just to get a discount.

      • +5

The policies are almost redundant given they both seem to stock exclusive products outside a limited core range of mainstream brands. DM for example have almost no imported beer, whereas FCL have a pretty good selection. It's almost like Bunnings having exclusive products, you won't find it cheaper elsewhere because it doesn't exist.

10km means very different things to different parts of Australia.
Can mean down the road for some places, and 40 minutes for another.

  • +3

off topic, but last week I found out Chemist Warehouse not only price matches, but beats competitor's prices. Asked if they price match and it was taken care of in about a minute.

  • This is a great deal.

I don't drink alcohol, but after reading this I'm in for a price matched Bender.

    • +1

Wait, wat? Are you a teetotaller or a binge drinker, they seem like very different things?

  • +2

Nicks in VIC is sometimes below DM, FC, LL on certain items.

But confused by clauses 2 and 8.

It states same state but then also 10km.

If the latter, it’s only stores near Doncaster that would agree to price match.

It then becomes a case of who you speak to, which is normally how it goes with any retailer - OW, JB etc

    • +2

I doubt they will price match Nicks, I imagine they will cite "online only offers" clause as a reason to decline a price match.

And you will notice with alcohol and other items Amazon are moving to coupons to stop people price matching at other stores.

    • But confused by clauses 2 and 8. It states same state but then also 10km.

I think those two clauses combined is intending to say that you cannot price match with a retailer just across the border from the Liquorland you are at. For example:

      • If you are at the Liquorland in Queanbeyan (NSW), you cannot price match with the Jim Murphy bottleshop at Majura Park shopping centre (ACT) 7.3km away.

      • If you are at the Liquorland in Wodonga (VIC), you cannot price match with Level One Cellars in Albury (NSW) 4.99km away.

I am guessing this will not be of any concern to you though…

  • is it 10km radial, diametrical or driving distance (and which map: google, apple maps etc)?

  • +5

If you find a lower price on a same stocked item then you'd be sensible to purchase the product there…

  • Price match on little fat lamb

  • +2

I often shop at bottlemart for beer. They have coupon offers weekly that reduce their already decent prices. I have a dans 5 mins away and my bottlemart is 10-15 mins away and I’m finding myself shopping at bottlemart click and collect most of the time. I.e last week I paid $54/slab for stone & wood and my dans is $67/slab.

  • Liquorland Customer Service stinks as online comments prove. I have closed my account after lodging numerous complaints and won't ever shop there again.

  • Liquorland is closer to me but I usually go to Dan Murphys because they are cheaper. Every time I try to get liquorland to match the price they seem to find a way to avoid it. The latest one is… Oh that’s a special price for Dan Murphy‘s members. Obviously everybody in Australia can be a member for no cost so it’s a bullshit reason.

  • Awesome for me, got a LL close, do not have a First Liquor close and they always have deals I want.
