  • Pretty decent since they waved that lame connection fee

    • Who else can remember when video stores had a joining fee?

      • +1

        What are video stores?

  • +2

Need to pay for their modem if you leave after 12 months though. I think it was $9 month x 12 months when I last looked..

    • +1

      It's $9 x 24 months.

      • +4

I expect a sizeable proportion of people will leave after 12mths. $90 for 100 Mbps is competitive but $110/month is not.

Just highlighting the modem payout fee for people thinking of joining.

    • You can also return it

      • +1

There is no mention of returns in the Telstra CIS.

Minimum cost based on you staying connected to this plan for 24 months and may change if month-to-month plan price changes. However, if you cancel your plan within 24 months of connecting, you will need to payout the remaining cost of your Telstra Wi-Fi Modem. The payout amount is $9 multiplied by months remaining in the first 24 months e.g. if you leave after 20 months you would pay $9 x 4 (the number of remaining months), at total of $36.

  • +3

not sure how this is a bargain, plenty other providers cheaper.

  • +13

Heads up: this is 100/20 not 100/40

    • +3

ok, will stick to my TPG 100/40 then.

    • +5

Annoys me how it's become standard to bury that information deep in critical summaries etc!

      • +1

Then I should not ask how anyone's feel about every ISP's definition of "unlimited" is.

        :)

  • How is this a bargain? Some many other providers like tpg offering cheaper plans..

    • +2

      Some may prefer Telstra.

      • +1

For what? NBN is the wholesaler and not Telstra.

        • +3

Different isps have different contention ratios, not all issues are created equal, specially tpg.

    • +1

Includes calls if you care about this. TPG is cheaper until you have to pay for calls and then it's the same price.

  • It said min cost $2400 for 24 months and only 12 months with $20 deduction of the plan cost.

  • +2

Perfect for large households of 6

Or anyone who just wants a basic connection speed with is consistant to what the rest of the world gets in the year 2020.

  • +11

Why would you lock into a contract when there are better providers like Superloop who do better for less money and don't lock you in?

    • +1

Its not a contract. THe discount only applies for 12 months

      • Do they make you pay for the modem if you leave early?

        • $9 x 24 months for a total cost $216.

      • +1

So instead of just paying a bit more now than you can get elsewhere, after 12 months you can pay a heap more than you would if you just signed up elsewhere. Because they're relying on you not cancelling.

  • Can you just send the modem back when you disconnect after 12 months, or alternatively, sign up without the modem?

    • +1

That is not an option. $9 x 24 months for a total cost $216.

    • You can

  • I went to the Telstra shop in the Westfield Garden City at the Upper Mount Gravatt last week. I mentioned this $90 plan as someone also mentioned before. I am using the Telstra cable broadband for many years. A Telstra lady told me that I am not qualified as New customer so I need to pay $110. I will likely choose the Vodafone which is cheaper and also has its 4G as a backup.

    • do it over the phone or on chat, much easier to negotiate especially if you're a long term customer, even ask them to throw in a telstra tv3 for resigning

      • I am a long term Telstra customer. Have not been able to get any discount from $110 through phone or chat, despite several attempts. They keep quoting “for new Telstra customers only”. They dont seem to care if I threaten to leave Telstra. What is your secret?

        • surprised usually if you're out of contract they match whatever new deals are out whether you're new or not, last deal negotiated what I read others getting here $90pm, calls, 50/20 speed, free telstra tv3, no lock in contract, wasn't really a hassle except when they kept billing me for 6 months in a row for the tv3, ask for someone higher up when they wont budge, give them the long term customer story & not happy etc..

          • @RogueWolf: It really does depend on who you talk to.

I’ve had to fully cancel and sign up again to avoid paying a moving fee despite being out of contract and $0 connection fee for “new customers”

The smarter agents/ones that give less fks just shortcut to the end solution, despite policy telling them otherwise.

  • I’ve been getting occasional upload congestion lately, with speeds of 0.01mbps to 0.05mbps when it happens. Usually goes away after half a day (ie. congestion is not persistant for longer than a day). I’m with superloop 100/20 on HFC. I’ve spoken to superloop, they said it may be HFC upload congestion in my area, and will escalate to nbn only if I have a record of speedtest showing slow upload across the morning, afternoon and evening/night consecutively. Is this likely to be a nbn issue or ISP issue (ie. would it help if I move to a new ISP such as Telstra)?

    • That sounds like a line issue to me, speeds that low for that long is highly likely a fault not congestion.
I'd push harder for super loop to escalate.
One speed test, or two half an hour apart should suffice imo.

  • Is this available for FTTC or is it still only FFTP/HFC

Last time I asked to be upgraded to 100/20 they advised it wasn't available - as I'm on FTTC

    • I’m on FTTC and it shows as available.

  • +2

    Superloop is better value.

  • +2

I'd rather eat broken glass than recommend anyone to use Telstra no matter how good the deal is, if anything is to happen you have to go through a chat app just to try and beg for Telstra support

    • Yes I had the same issue 1 year ago. I think tls is so expensive because they have a very a high cost base.

  • +1

Avoid this. You have to pay off the modem if you cancel before 24 months. This is hardly ever mentioned and needs attention, otherwise people are gonna get hit with an unexpected bill if they think they can just leave.

  • Dont forget $40 cashback.

  • I went to shop a few weeks ago and got $80 for 50 nbn plan with free premium speed boost which makes it 100/40. 12 months deal but the good thing is base price is 90 after 12 months. I have fttp.

    Didn't take the modem though.

  • When I went with Telstra at the start of the year they gave free speed boost. Said they usually do for new customers, either for 6 or 12 months depending on the rep.

  • Pay 89 for 100/40 with telstra no deal

    • How please? Locked in? Modem cost?

  • Have any existing customers been able to secure this plan
Without going into contract? - really shits me when companies don't provide any incentive for existing clients.
