    Again!? This is getting regular.
Worth keeping one for when you travel beyond the major towns.

Free talk & text and Bonus 100mB of data end 23 January 2012 unless extended by telstra.

So you have to use the bonus before then. The standard allowance lasts 30 days from activation. Page 31, footnote 2, in case you want to check for yourself.

Looks great and probably Telstra's reply to the other offers floating around. I know from experience with the $2 offer sometime ago that Telstra has good coverage and signal strength in general.

    • So is it 500mb + 100mb bonus? I am travelling in the next few weeks into the countryside, and want something for my tablet. Sounds like a good deal for $10 for a month.

      • So is it 500mb + 100mb bonus?

Add on a 700MB data pack which you buy with $20 of the included non-bonus credit.

Question: Can I use the included data for 4 weeks, then buy a data pack (before the 30 day $ credit expires) and get another 30 days of data?

        • No you can't, tried that one before too!

The bonus credit will be there on the account, but you can't actually use it unless you have standard credit also.

  • Ahlala, I just bought and activated one last n ight..grrr, but worth to get one to extend my current one. +1

  • Nice.

  • Anyway to work this as an existing prepaid customer?

    • Not without changing your number.

      • couldn't you port your old number to the new sim?

        • I think you have to port it to another carrier, and back to Telstra.

    • -1

But you might be able to apply the recharge to your existing account and not use the SIM, as in the Woolies deal.

      • Is this confirmed? Can you apply the recharge voucher to any account like for the Woolies deal?

        • I'll let you know tomorrow :D

  • Can you select Simplicity instead?

  • Does the credit expire after 30 days? Does it include international calls? When must the sim card be activated?

    • There's usually an expiry date on the pack

  • Ok, this is conjecture on my part until the sale starts, but my guess is that it's like the Woolies deal. You buy a starter pack and a recharge voucher together at the counter for $10. The starter pack will have an expiry date sometime in the future as it's a normal pack. The recharge voucher will expire in a year (I think, never recharged with Telstra myself). What discourages you from hanging onto the voucher too long is that the free talk/text and bonus data expire 23/01/2012 as I've posted above. In this sense it isn't comparable to the Woolies deal. Maybe they got wind of people hoarding Woolies SIMs/vouchers and this is their countermeasure for this deal.

    • where can i find the woolies deal?

    • -1

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think this is like the Woolies deal. $10 will get you a Starter SIM pack (normally $30). When you activate the SIM card, they will apply the "recharge" for you. We will never see this recharge voucher, hence you can't use it to recharge another account.

      • Let us know what you find out. When I bought into the $2 starter SIM with 30 days usage offer a few months back, they made me jump through the hoops with a call centre person overseas (pleasant person I must say) to get my credit applied and then I had to wait for a few days for it to become active. I think that put off a lot of people from churning to Telstra but didn't discourage cheapskates like me who were churning from a spare SIM and willing to wait a few days to have fun with the unlimited talk/text and 500MB data.

Hopefully this time they expect that the expiry date will make people apply the credit themselves soon.

    • Ok, this is conjecture on my part

What is the point of posting wild speculation when you have no clue? Please stop.

  • Is the bonus expiry date printed on the voucher?
Where does it say it expire on 23/01/2012? :(
You make me worry, cos I usually bought a few extra at petrol station for the extra 4cents petrol discount.

    • I just read the term and condition again, it says Free Talk & Text and Bonus Data end 23 January 2012 unless extended by Telstra. Which they extended it nearly every time.
Time to stock up the vouchers even there's no bonus, at least you can use it for Me2U, which is $20 for 700Mb data , $5 = 30 text.

  • Any chance if anyone knows if it's a MicroSIM? Would be handy to put one in an iPad!

    • the Woolies Mobile (optus network) one from woolies has 5gig for 45 days and comes in micro sim varieties. Unless you really need rural coverage, I'd be going the woolies one.

    • You ll need to go to telstra shop and change to a microSIM

  • I think these are charged at 1mb increments - which I guess means if u only use a few kb every 30min or so for facebook/twitter/email push etc u will get charged 1mb for each data session.. Has anyone used this with a similar deal and does it end up costing heaps or is it usually pretty right?

I don't know how often fb etc pushes for data (I know I can change email down to twice a day on my android)

I'm looking at trying this out because my vodafone contract expires on 24/11 FINALLY.. TBH never had phone call/SMS probs (except @ easter). Just the internet, whenever I went to Melb was useless, at home was fine but I got wifi there anyway, and at work was fine… Inbetween it was hope for the best..

    • Have a look at the Woolies thread for a spirited discussion of this. There's a link to a Whirlpool discussion too. What I gathered is that if you don't turn off your smartphone it doesn't disconnect so it's all one session. Hope that's true, I'll find out when I start using the Woolies SIM.

      • that's usually true if you dont get a drop out or accidentally connected to wifi etc

  • is there any three prepaid good deal on the market?

mine one is from 3 and my plan is free call to 3 only(not vodafone). Want to get one prepaid paid
    for my relatives.

  • About the recharge voucher question raised above - I bought this deal about 6 months ago, as I had to change to Helstra due coverage issues in the new house.

The pack contained a normal phone sim with NO recharge voucher, When you activate the sim, they apply the $30 credit. So no, it can't be used to top up an existing account (except by me2u)

Re the data increments, I add a data pack to my prepaid when I travel, and it's billed by the kb, not Mb, so I would assume the included data on this offer would be the same.

    • However that was sold online. Will they put special SIM packs in Coles to do this, or will the cashier associate the recharge with the SIM at the checkout?

  • FYI - Just picked a Starter Pack up, the expiry on it is Jul 2014

    • How was the credit applied? Is it a special pack?

      • Haven't activated it yet, bought it for future use.

        • What I mean is, did you get a voucher and is it tied to the SIM starter kit? Or was it a specially labelled starter kit?

  • Doesn't seem worth it for existing customers.. Unless I'm missing something?

  • +2

I bought one. Can confirm there's only a SIM inside it and no separate recharge voucher

    • Thank you for the info, I was going to buy multiple packs of them together to save cost (true ozbargainer style lol)

    • I bought two (I'm an existing prepaid customer) Using Me2U credit you can transfer $10 per day to the other accountfor a transfer fee of 25c per time - it appears to expire in 15 days…so value is borderline (pay $10, get $29 worth of recharge once the transfer fees are paid, as you can only transfer whole dollars), have to do it in a few transactions…
