  • Seems pretty good. Any ideas abt the pros and cons of this one?

    • +3

A con would be the screen resolution. If it managed 1600x1200 I'd probably get one.

      1366x768 is too chunky for a 15.6"

      • +9

Haters gon' hate. You could say that about 90% of consumer notebooks these days.

        • +3

cheapsk8 makes a valid point. At least give consumers the option of upgrading to a better screen as I would pay more for that. Otherwise a big low-res screen is a deal breaker for me.

      • +2

1600x1200 on a 15.6" screen? Obviously you have young eyes!

I find 1440x900 to be perfect for me (an old dude) on that size although I had the option to upgrade the screen on my lappy to 1680x1050 I run my triple 22" monitor desktop at that (their native) resolution… but then again I don't play games so it's horses for courses really.

      • +1

Another con would be, no web cam, just pointing it out

        • +1

Yup, big downside for serious ChatRoulette users! :p

        • +2

          There is a web cam

        • there is a webcam! My bad. Placed my order ;)

    • You cannot run OpenGL applications using the dedicated graphic.

  • +1

Good price I guess. Although after I got burned with X220 deal from lenovo, I think twice b4 buying from them :(.

    • so i guess no one got that cheap x220 deal from lenovo?

      • +1

still waiting on mine :P lenovo hasn't contacted me, but has charged my CC

        • +1

Hi mate, could you update the status of ur x220 purchase? Wondering if anyone actually can get it, that's the best deal I ever seen. Btw, good luck with your one!!

    • You got burnt? I am surprised, how can you complaint, if it was a price error.

  • When is Ivy Bridge coming? Would this be even cheaper then? =D

    • Next Year now. Hoping Q1 but not holding my breath.

  • +3

Hate to live in the past, but BULK5 slaughtered this deal.

  • +2

Great laptop, I picked one of these at EOFY. Word of warning, create restore points before upgrading drivers. The newer ATI drivers break the switching ability, it's a lot of stuffing around to get both running.

  • I got one of these a while back.
It is a good all round laptop for the money.
Only real negative is the battery can rattle a bit and some say that if you it drag the laptop across
a table it can come loose!
For about $50 extra you can get the one with 2GB graphics which may suit gamer players better.

    • 2GB for the rez this laptop is on would be a complete waste of money unless that 2GB or ram is clocked faster.. then its pretty much tossing away money!

    • Link it

  • Laptops have gone so cheap now :)

A while back all you could get for $500 was some crappy (and old) dual core one.

Now you see Sandybridge i5 and i7's all over the place for <1000 >.<

    • +1

thats the way the computer industry goes in the end. soon you will see i5's and i7's on Ebay for <100 :)

    • +1

laptops are over saturated and the hype is on tablets now

the ultrabooks are meant to revive the laptop trend but its double the price, though you get very sleek designs

  • Thanks for posting the deal, but next time let us know that you are using an affiliate link. I'm pretty sure vid_ghost is earning 3% per sale , so if 15 people snap this up he earns $250! Nice!

    • Nice find ViperAMD. I hope If OP can put some light on it. I think people would not mind, if he mentioned it in his post. Its bad to hide it.

      • didnt even know… and no i'm not signed up to them so i wont get a single dollar for any links

The one i used was the only link that works after you click on the laptop

This is the link to the main page befor clicking on the laptop http://shopap.lenovo.com/au/en/deals-and-coupons/quickship-d…

        • Thanks for the clarification.

      • +2

The link I get when I directly go to Lenovo and search for this computer is the same as what the OP posted. It may be an affiliation link that OzBargain puts in for people not logged in.

        • Neil i think those guys had there tinfoil everything is dodgy hats on when posting lol

        • Neil, I am always logged in and thats why, I can write the comment. Secondly, there was definitely an affiliate link there earlier. It is now changed and not pointing to an item.
          You can check the logs.

    • I thought this action should be encouraged. People work hard to find the deal for us and we benefit more than how much the OP earns. They derserve to get paid just like this website gets paid from the ADs to keep it going. The business model should be changed as there is no free lunch in the world. Esp, when there is a deal comes up, some members here tend to flame the post/OP rather than appreciate their effort of posting the bargins. Without the bargain hunters/reps, we won't be here in the first place anyways.

      • At the beginning, affiliate links were fine. But more and more people were posting crappy deals just to put their affiliate links in. You can click on the moneybackco link below the deal to get 3.5% cash back thus everyone can be rewarded the cheaper price. In cases, where there isn't cashback to be had the OP is welcome to put their declared affiliate link in the description.

      • I thought Ozbargain is a community, where everyone can share a deal with others, which he came across or found somewhere so that others can also save money.
Very few will want you to keep searching for deals and make money.

Secondly, If money is to be paid, It should be Scotty who should be awarded.

That said I think no harm in affiliate links ( we already have few users posing them), but it should be declared not hidden.

        • +2

What you said is exactly how it works.

If the merchant is part of Moneybackco's cashback program then no affiliate links should be posted.

Thus each person who buys this computer will get $19.31 back. Surely, the community comes first and having everyone save an extra $19 is the priority.

For people not logged in, an OzBargain affiliate link is used thus yes, money goes to Scotty.

As for the history of this deal, it looks like for 1 minute this morning, the OP had copied and pasted OzBargain's affiliate link into the description (and possibly in the link).

People will go and post affiliate links to benefit themselves. We've had to remove thousands of bad deals with affiliate links. At one point, loads of group buy/voucher site deals were being posted with affiliate links. Most of them bad. Once we implemented new rules banning group buy/voucher site affiliate links, postings dropped to 1/3. The community should be the winner at the end of the day.

Yeah with MBC — although somehow the integration with MBC is not that obvious so a lot of people miss out on the cashbacks.

I know Steve @ MBC is rebranding MBC as "StartHere.com.au" and there are some plans for logged in users at OzBargain to get redirected to MBC in a more streamline fashion to get more cashbacks. Maybe next year…

        • Thanks Neil.
@Scotty, yes I do agree.I have got cashback from moneybackco and I am really happy, how they work.
I think, we can have a option in settings, where after clicking the deal link, it automatically goes through moneybackco. Its just a suggestion though.

        • I'm for this provided the integration works properly.

Due to the way MBC does the actual tracking of the referral, and the problems that are encountered using MBC directly in making sure that referrals are properly registered by affiliate networks, I feel things aren't currently in a state to throw yet another level of linking (via ozb) into the tracking mix.

@ViperAMD — I have checked the logs and I do not believe vid_ghost has posted an affiliate link.

With Lenovo Australia, the only affiliate link you'll get would be from DGM, which would be on the domain s2d6.com (which is currently banned on OzBargain). Sometimes URL has trailing tracking links (ipromoID in the current URL for example). There are other tracking variables that are usually used by marketers to examine how effective their campaigns are, but those are not affiliate links. Anyway. The link vid_ghost posted last night was http://shopap.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/controller/e/auweb/Leno… which is just a direct link to the order form.

  • Nice
