  • where is the coupon from. is a print out ok or do they require the original?

  • http://smartsaver.com.au/?p=71682 - I think they would accept a print out.

Good deal - Seems like a great phone. If I wasn't into Android so much, I'd grab one of these long before I looked towards the fruid salad.

  • +1

JB HiFi selling for $599 outright.

    No deal.

  • Only $40 less than the Dick Smith price.
Given how badly the Elop board has set up phone to fail*, I'm expecting the price to drop fast.

(* so the husk of Nokia can be bought cheaply by Microsoft, according to the conspiracy theory.)

If anyone is wondering about this phone, it's the best I've owned. I have the 64GB version from Vodafone, it has no branding minus a startup screen, it's a fast & beautiful phone with lots of cool features.

    Some negatives:

    • Not a huge amount of apps
    • To get some more apps you may have to do non user friendly things like .deb file installs
    • No flash
    • 1.1 update hasn't been released in Australia until it's 'approved'

    Positives

    • Swipe becomes addictive/intuative, pick another phone up and you will try and swipe it.
    • Nice camera
    • 1.1 update around the corner (lots of little fixes)
    • Decent music player
    • Fast
    • 64GB storage rocks
    • Good touch screen
    • Good for geeks/techies that like tinkering
    • Impresses people
    • Good default apps
    • I already had the pr1.1 for almost a week now, updated with Nokia Software Updater, not sure about Voda branded fw.
I hate when ppl say this phone is dead, Nokia is supporting this phone till 2015, how many android phones realeased in last 12mths will get icecream sandwich?

  • Phone is slow.
    Wouldn't recommend.
(Although I admit the phone is pretty spectacular in other aspects.)

  • Good phone, but my N8 has a better camera, Xenon flash, has bluetooth 3.0 (not HS i know), has Flash, has a radio, HDMI output, USB input (USB On-The-Go), and can take up to 48gb storage.

I'll stick with N8. But even with Symbian Anna on it, i'm thinking that i might make the jump to an Android device for my next phone, if only they didn't make the good ones so big, like Samsung Galaxy 2, HTC's etc.

As mentioned, better to get it at JB Hi-Fi.

I played with a friends N9 and it is a nice phone to use, but agree that the N8 is still the camera phone leadar (not just Nokia's) with a great camera and xenon flash.

If you're game, have a look at some of the various Symbian Belle custom firmwares out there - I've been running Belle on my N8 since the first leak, and it's another step up after Anna. Rumour has it available late Nov officially, but the leaked custom firmwares are pretty good.

It's a shame they couldn't combine the N8's camera, HDMI and USB with the N9's screen.

      • Thanks. I think i'll wait for the official Belle release, if it's not too far away. When you say "leaked custom firmwares", do you mean plural? There's more than 1 version of the Belle firmware?

There's a reasonable sized list of things that annoy me about the symbian OS, even though i still like aspects of it.

        • There have been two (possibly three) different leaks of the in development firmware, and a decent sized community of people then customising the firmware to release a version that has features that are not in the base firmware. A good example is vibration feedback for calls - when a call commences (stops ringing) or ends the phone does a quick vibrate.

I think it's safe to post a link to the key forum as I don't think it breaks OzB rules: http://forum.dailymobile.se/index.php?board=121.0
