you can accept it, spend it and cancel.

How? It says "The $30 eBay Digital Gift Card will be sent to your registered email address on your eBay account within 10 days of payment of the annual Plus membership fee"

Once you've paid, you can't cancel.

      • +9

but "waiting" for the gift card is essentially just waiting until your $49 payment goes through for the renewal. no payment = no gift card.

      • +1

You can cancel your renewal, not the paid, $49, annual membership, i.e. no membership fee refund.

      • +1

        The last line you posted…

"For the avoidance of doubt, if you click “Keep my benefits and receive a $30 gift card” but do not continue to pay the eBay Plus annual fee, you will not be eligible to receive the eBay Digital Gift Card"

    • I went to cancel after getting charged for another year without any notice been given of the date that it would be charged - they offered me the $30 gift card during the cancellation process and I still got it even though id already had the $49 debited the previous day.

      • -4

I too was caught out by the $49 being charged out of nowhere. I was very annoyed that there was no warning. I don't get how they are able to do it. You don't see Woolies taking our money again because last week we bought some milk.

        • +7

You also don't buy milk on a subscription service… :/
But if you did, they would continue delivering milk until you cancelled

          • +1

@SBOB: At least value can be had from a milk subscription.

        • +1

For anyone who's worried about this, just cancel your ebay plus membership early - you'll still be able to enjoy the benefits of ebay plus until your subscription ends and you won't be charged when it expires. This also works for Amazon Prime memberships.

  • Not making sense to me..how can you spend it without paying the renewal fee if you don't get the gift card until you've paid the renewal fee?

    • +4

You can't. OP should lay off the sauce.

      • This deal also comes with sauce?

        • It does!

The sauce is worth $3.00 and I'm happy to have your complimentary bottle available for you after you pay me $4.90 for absolutely nothing of value.

          Bargain.

  • +1

    I got this.
You dont get it till after you pay for the next years subscription…but my "coupon" for this deal expires 4 months before my ebay plus renewal….

  • So they already sent you the $30 voucher? Is that what you are saying? Even though the terms imply you won't get the voucher until after you renew, just cancelling and then cancelling the cancel is enough to trigger am email with the $30 voucher?
Sorry just trying to understand, it's not totally clear! Thanks :)

    6) For the avoidance of doubt, if you click “Keep my benefits and receive a $30 gift card” but do not continue to pay the eBay Plus annual fee, you will not be eligible to receive the eBay Digital Gift Card.

'that's not at all confusing, lol'

    • +4

So they already sent you the $30 voucher? Is that what you are saying?

They haven't sent the voucher. OP is either confused or didn't clearly explain the offer.

This is a long-time offer from eBay for not cancelling eBay plus.

The eBay plus subscription is non-refundable in any case. If you try to cancel your next renewal, then eBay will give you an offer to not cancel the next renewal, and get a $30 voucher after you pay the next subscription. This effectively reduces the cost for the next year from $49 to $19.

But, the $30 voucher will only be sent after you pay the $49. And the $49 is non-refundable. Once you pay the $49, then you can only cancel the subsequent eBay Plus renewal, but you can't cancel it immediately and get the $49 back.

This is based on personal experience of being an eBay Plus member.

    • I did this "trick" a few weeks ago.

My ebay plus subscription was going to end, so I attempted to cancel my subscription.

It then brought me to a page with the $30 offer.

I received the voucher code via email the day after eBay renewed my yearly subscription ($49).

I used it for a camera lens in conjunction with a 15% off discount code going on at the time. It stacked fine.

  • +1

Looks like the same deal found here. It shows that I had already redeemed it earlier which I did a few months back. I am guessing everybody who has subscribed once and hasn't claimed this voucher can claim it. But for people who have already claimed it, the voucher will be provided only after the next subscription. At least that's what I figured. Do correct me if I am wrong.

  • +7

Yep, got this offer when I cancelled mine this week….. Still cancelled , eBay plus seems to offer very little value

  • +1

Good luck getting it. I, like many others, never got their renewal voucher last year.

  • +4

eBay still being descriptive calling this a “Gift Card”. It’s not. It’s a coupon.

A gift card is like cash and can be used with other discounts. A coupon generally can’t be used with other codes, as is the case with this shitty deal.

    • I didn't realise that.

      • +6

Neither did I when I got my $50 voucher. Took me a year to actually use the thing because any decent eBay deal generally needs a coupon, which can’t be use with this.

If I had the energy I’d report them.

        • comments on past ozb posts on the same deal says it is indeed a gift card and it can be used with coupons.. confused

        • Could you buy a gift card with the coupon, then use that?

          • @Maichu: Below details the T&C from the email I received from this deal:

            Redemption

You must have an eBay account registered in Australia and an Australian delivery address to redeem the Gift Card.
Invalid or unidentifiable Gift Card numbers will not be redeemed.
As a security feature, upon first use the Gift Card (including funds on the Gift Card) links to the eBay account associated with the Gift Card's first use and becomes non-transferable.
The Gift Card may only be used for purchases on eBay.com.au where the seller accepts PayPal or credit/debit card.
It is important that you track the Gift Card balance. You may check your Gift Card balance by using the Gift Card balance checker.

            Restrictions

The Gift Card is not refundable or redeemable for cash or credit, unless required by law.
The Gift Card may be used to make purchases only up to the available balance on the Gift Card. The available balance of the Gift Card is reduced by the amount of each purchase of goods or services and by other deductions, if any, that may be required by law.
The Gift Card is not reloadable. The available balance of the Gift Card at the time of purchase cannot be increased or added to.
If you want to use the Gift Card to make a purchase that exceeds the available balance on the Gift Card, you must combine the use of the Gift Card with additional payment from your PayPal account or other funding source. You agree that we are not responsible if you do not have enough funds on your Gift Card to facilitate a transaction.
The Gift Card may not be used to pay eBay or PayPal service fees. The Gift Card also may not be used to buy eBay Gift Cards, third party gift cards, gift certificates, coupons, coins, paper money, virtual currency, or items generally considered to be "bullion" (for example, gold, silver, and other precious metals in the form of coins, bars or ingots).
No more than a total of $1,500 in Gift Cards may be redeemed per transaction, no more than a total of $2,000 in Gift Cards may be redeemed per day, and no more than a total of $5,000 in Gift Cards may be redeemed per calendar month. Further, you may only redeem a maximum of eight Gift Cards in any single transaction (and fewer if you are redeeming Gift Cards in combination with other redemption codes, such as coupons or vouchers).

        • +1

Maybe they changed it? Up to you guys if you want to risk it. From my experience when ever I tried to add the "gift voucher" it would remove any other coupons.

eBay plus is a waste of time.

Had it for 2 years and barely any decent deals.

If there was a big sale for eBay plus only members the "RRP" would be jacked up and then discount applied.

Dont waste your money and put it towards Amazon Prime, you won't regret it.

    • +4

Amazon Prime, you won't regret it.

      +1

      • Totally! I never thought I'd switch to using Amazon as much as I have. I buy 3 times as many things on Amazon vs eBay now. It was the other way around at the start of 2019.

    • The good thing about Prime is that you can cancel it at any time, even if you pay a full year they will part refund… whereas eBay WoT (Waste of Time), they won't and they'll try and cheat you like re-enabling your subscription after cancellation so they can charge you.

If ebay don't pay me at least $1 for their useless service I ain't subbing.

Prime's biggest benefit is overseas shipping and not much value if not for that.

  • Lol. So much debate about fleabay+ even with a voucher. Go, value for money.

  • Thanks OP.

This deal reminded me to check when my ebay plus expired and its in 3 days!!! So I clicked cancel and couldnt care for their $30 coupon as I have little use for eBay plus at the moment.

    Hi Cavendish Montgomery Rex III
We’re sorry that you no longer want to use eBay Plus. Your eBay Plus membership will end on 10/10/2020.

After that date, you’ll no longer benefit from free delivery and free returns on millions of items. If you change your mind and want to continue to be a member of eBay Plus, you can sign up again.

  • You've already accepted the offer "Thank You for Choosing eBay Plus - $30 eBay Gift Card"

    Dang!

  • Can anyone cancel this eBay Plus POS online? They make it hard.

    • CLick the link in this post, its right in the middle of the screen. not hard.

    • What? It's pretty easy.
eBay plus page shows your current subscription date and there is a cancel link directly next to the expiry date.
      Couldn't really be much easier…

      • The first time I tried to cancel it refused to stick.
But that was over a year ago.
The last time it seemed to work fine first time.

      • Maybe the link is missing for me?

        https://imgur.com/Hh2BVJE

  • this is a long standing offer… depends on your luck when you go to cancel it might be a $20 or $30 gift card.

  • gave up on renewing mine too which expires in another 4 days time.

not much deals for plus members, those timed deals i never get my hand on it quick enough anyway.

never used the free return either. Paypal would have free returns anyway if I am not wrong…but havent used it either

  • anyone else find you cannot cancel ebay plus on the APP? only list the phone number.

    • They hired an ex time share salesman to run the campaign… sucker you in an good luck getting out.

      • Sure he isn’t a gym salesman?

  • +2

Why bother with $30 when you can get $50?
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/557631

  • Mine just renewed and I got my $30 voucher, thanks op.

  • I wonder can you cancel it, not take the $30 then sign up again under the $50 promo instead?
