    Can we call it 5k?

    • +9

Yeah if 2560x1080 is a '1080p' monitor, then this is 1440p

    • -1

It has 5kish horizontal pixels. Just like how 4k monitors have 4kish horizontal pixels….

      • +3

        10240 x 512 = 10K 😂

        • +2

Agreed. Dual FHD ultra wide =/= 4k

Half the pixels of claimed resolution, gtfo

      • +8

It actually has less pixels than 4k, around 10%

    • Nope, it's not 5K because it lacks the vertical resolution. There's only one or two actual 5K monitors on the market, with this being the main one: https://www.lg.com/au/it-monitors/lg-27MD5KA-B-black

    • +1

      It's a 5K, 1440p monitor*.

Unfortunately the classification schemes are completely broken.

Far better to say it's 5120 x 1440 like in the 'olden days'. That would be it, done, clear, no more arguments.

That's if you take the Wikipedia definitions, where it falls into both categories:
      * "5K resolution refers to display formats with a horizontal resolution of around 5,000 pixels."
      * "1440p is a family of video display resolutions that have a vertical resolution of 1440 pixels."

      • Definitely broken. They should only allow the classification for displays that have more than half the number of pixels of the standard resolution

Now 32:9 is a thing, why would panel manufacturers make an 8k 16:9 panel when they could sell it as two "8k" 32:9 panels

  • +16

    60hz only

    • +1

I can only imagine the price increase if this was a 90Hz monitor… Let alone 120 and 144Hz

      • New Samsung 49" G9 240Hz is $2799

        • Exactly, that's 1K more and it doesn't have the:

Built in webcam with windows hello, built in kvm, usb-c

But yes, that does have the advantage of a 1MS panel (Suitable for gaming) and it also does have the Samsung QLED technology

  • +9

Cons:Colour not as accurate as you would want in a screen this price., 60Hz refresh and 5ms pixel response aren’t ideal for gaming

    • +2

Yes that is why I didn't bother with this screen and instead got the Samsung alternative.

  • +17

Nice! Missing B28 and NFC though.

    • +4

High yield investment monitor I shall think not.

  • +3

Built in webcam with windows hello, built in kvm, usb-c, 1800-R curve (same as samsung crg9 in contrast to shallower curve of LG/Dell versions)

    • thx added to description.

  • This is almost bordering on TV display size. Its good that its a VA panel.

  • +4

    Great specs monitor.
You can get it cheaper for $1699 delivered at SaveOnIt https://www.saveonit.com.au/product/philips-499p9h1-49-curve…

    • Thanks!got one:)

    • Hmm this link still works ;) The other one is broken…

  • +5

I strongly recommend this as an alternative.

    AOC AG493UCX.

Better panel IMO, similar price. USB-C inputs and other nice features.

  • +1

Must be running a command centre with one of these.

    • Nah, you'll need at least two, with a few other 27" either side

  • +1

    Philips monitor?
Except the brand, everything else is managed by an Asian company who also sells AOC ;)

  • +3

Built in KVM is nice, wish that was common

  • -2

No where near 5K. It's actually 2K in terms of pixel density.

    • +3

Both of your statements are wrong, because 5K, 4K, 2K, etc all refer to horizontal resolution. 5120 pixels across meets the criteria of 5K, albeit in a 32:9 format.

True cinematic 2K has more in common with FHD (1920x1080) than it will QHD (2560x1440).

    • +1

Pixel density is to do with physical size (pixels per inch) not the number of pixels in a panel

    • +2

buy it, check your balance, you will get the taste of spice ;p

  • If you can price match elsewhere that would be better as you have to pay for postage around12 and credit card charges around 21 unless you do bank EFT.

$1782.31 Would be the cost to buy with credit card or PayPal and delivered. (Metro Melbourne)

Got one last year for 1.4k. Love it

  • Perfect if money ain't a thing.

  • All Philips' products are OEM of Chinese brand (anonymous brand or rubbish brand) as they only make medical equipment now. As a Chinese, we don't even buy them anymore.

    • Phillip Monitor are produced by AOC, which is not anonymous nor rubbish brand. So stop providing false information.

Please also do not represent for all Chinese, you can only represent 1/1,440,767,449 of China.

      • -1

You mean not Chinese, but Taiwanese!
OMG there is another China! Nobody tell Xi he might get mad.

  • why not just buy 2 monitors lol way cheaper

    • +1

might not be a great for gaming to split the display

      • +1

doubt people would be buying this for gaming, when the Samsung version specs seems better and cheaper

  • What a gape!

  • how is this one compared with samsung's chg90 at $1520

    • +1

I bought this over the Samsungs, primarily for the USB-C PD. The KVM and Webcam is actually also a nice touch for meetings and stuff, along with the built-in speakers.

The built-in Ethernet will come into use soon as well, so lots of little niceties.

There were some people who complained about the on-screen controls but that's completely bypassed by the remote control they give you…

      • +1. If I am in the market for a 5k 49in super wide, I’d pick the Philips for the above reasons too, especially if you use a laptop. Everything connects to the monitor, you have just one single cable to plug to the laptop for power, data and video.

        • Using a type c hub it's also a single cable connection, is it not?

          • @ChadHominem: For a start it is another component on the desk and you’d have to buy an external power supply as most USB-C hubs don’t come with power supplies. You’d be looking at least $100-150 extra. You get the above extras as MadoxNet mentioned on the Philips for another 100 bucks, and it’s a tidier solution.

    • +1

samsung better if u wanna game

  • If you can afford it, buy a 48 inch of cx oled… Not sure if they make them any smaller, heard they are but have halted distribution of panels due to pixel issues on the older models.

    • Depends on your setup. Much larger screen, have to sit further back.

  • who the hell makes 5k content these days?

Isn't the TV signal still 1080p? lol

    • If you are working in a high res image you have plenty of room on the side for palettes etc.
It’s why iMacs are 5K, and LG make that 5K Thunderbolt Display.

And let’s not discuss the Apple XD display at 6K and a ludicrous price. Although there are reference monitors even more expensive.

    • Nah, pretty sure it's 1080i

  • +2

You had me at windows hello
