  • can any cc guru weigh in? is this good for personal use as well? or is it not worth it until you have a company of a certain size?

You can use it for personal purchases - no one will stop you.
But if it is predominantly for personal use, and if you are willing to pay $395, maybe the personal Explorer card is better than the business one. The personal one has a $400 travel credit.

FYI: when they say it is available to new Amex members, Amex cards you hold in a personal capacity are also counted, and not just in terms of the company/business being a new member. Over a year ago, when I applied, that was the case, unless things have changed since then. So worth checking with Amex on this if you happen to hold personal cards.

I still signed up since there was a fee waiver for 1 year (although could not get the bonus points). But this time around, I noticed that the 1-year fee waiver is gone.

It can still be a good deal for some, especially if you can score the bonus points.
