Just saw this news article and thought I'd share it here for two reasons -

1) as information for those in need i.e. unemployed, international students and former hospital workers.
2) to raise awareness to the Gofundme page to started by this restaurant to raise funds for the packages and the disadvantaged people in the community.

Please visit the restaurant's Facebook page to see when they are doing their next event (their website says every Wednesday night). Below is info from yesterday's event -

▪️Tiān38, ‪350 Flinders Lane, Melbourne CBD‬
▪️‪5:30pm‬
▪️Hot meals and care packs
.

PS. I'm not entitled to this act of kindness but have donated towards this great cause. Every little bit helps!

  • Great effort
Shame even if you satisfy their criteria you have to reside within 5km of this restaurant to get this meal

or shag someone within 5km of the restaurant.

      Dan allowed that loop hole.

        Oh lord… Just imagined a share-a-shag platform 🙄

      • not sure why people downvoted this.. it was funny ..lol

        • It was a political rant disguised as a joke.

          • @magic8ballgag: The only allowable political position is worship for The Party.

+1 for people helping out other people.

  • Photos show long queue - how many free meals are actually served?

    • +5

They said more than 200 meals and care packages were provided that night.

      • Seems demand increased - in late July, we were able to dish out over 50 charity meals.

        • Job keeper is tapering off and insolvencies from zombie companies will be coming, even if the recent reforms delay such insolvencies.

          • @Koffee: Undoubtedly, things will get worse as we flounder into Morrison recession - but I suspect very few zombie company employees live within 5Km of Tian38.

Tian38 has the best Fried Rice in Melbourne!

      • +25

It is the best, you know nothing.

Source: I am a third generation Hong Kong chef family, and have eaten more fried rice then you have snags at bunnings.

@AlexF: not superior I think, just he is more familiar with whats authentic.

            • -8

@life is suffering: Fried rice dishes aren't confined to Asian cuisine. On the other hand, a question (even a rhetorical one) being down voted - that's authentic. Nonconformist view requires reeducation.

          That's a bit racist.

@magic8ballgag: Nah if you're having that many snags get your cholesterol checked out!

Tian38 has very tasty Hainanese Chicken Rice

    • Sadly i found there duck/pork to be not that nice. It doesn't transport well.

    • What about them?

    • +1

It says Unemployed. So if they're that, then they're in.

  • +6

Good stuff, i'll donate to help them out.

  • +2

They are right next to my work and have eaten there a few times. Their Hainanese Chicken Rice is the best I've eaten outside of Singapore. They are a great restaurant

    What about Sydney?

  • +4

Some very stylish looking people with their smartphones lining up.

    • +1

Sounds like international students to me.

      • We want their money but we don't want them here…does that sound accurate?

    • +2

Smartphones aren't exactly that expensive these days…

If I became unemployed tomorrow, I'd still have my phone, clothes, etc.

    Support businesses that do this!

When Vic opens up again, we fly down for business a fair few times a year. I have put this one on my list to visit and support.

  • So this's the rich version to being poor, didn't know poor had a class too.
