Am I the only one that thought $1599 is a lot to pay for a coathanger?

    • +28

      It's a SSEXXY coat-hanger!

    • +1

Wouldn't put it past Samsung to make a coat hanger with HDR1000

    • -1

Nah bro, I thought the same, I can boult a hole PC with that price!

      • +5

can you play commander keen on it?

    • Considering Dell deals earlier today, this is way too much. At $168, you could buy 3, and still save loads of cash, while buying excellent quality monitors. I like this, but not if it's over $500

  • -7

this is too widde to play games on

    • +48

You're biased and incorrect. I win, bye bye.

    • +1

it would be really nice for flight sim. but i dont think dropping that kind of money for one game seems wise

      • Get like six of them, and then stack them on top of each other, three per row, so you get a 3x2 monitor config. Mmmmmmmm………. Or get four or five of them and place them all around you so you get a full 360 degree view. All you have to do is swivel your chair to see behind you…probably pointless since you can't see behind you and you can just as easily turn around with your mouse if you're playing first person shooter type games….but for a car racing sim or something similar, this would be the build.

    • I've played PUBG on a 32:9 display before and it was surprisingly decent. The vertical view was a bit restricted but the horizontal view was very immersive.

    • +1

I have the CHG90 and it's amazing for games. The only time it isn't is when the game doesn't support 32:9 (and most of the ones I play do). It's really immersive when your entire FOV is covered by screen.

      • Ditto. If I could find a way to offload this for a reasonable price I'd buy the CRG9 but that seems unlikely (and I know it's depreciated a lot in just a couple of years) so will just sit tight and enjoy my slightly lower PPI.

    • the main stuff still happens in the middle, it gives you peripheral vision and makes it more immersive

    • once you played games on 32:9, 16:9 will be too narrow to play games on.

  • +5

Looks like you can do a Officeworks price beat

    • +4

      $1519.05 at Officeworks.

      • Will officeworks pricebeat binglee if bing Lee does not post to your location ?

        • Can't hurt to ring them and find out.

      • Could you provide a URL please?
I checked office works. Could not find your price.

        https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/samsung-49…

        • If you get officeworks to price beat bing lee's price. They take a further 5% off $1599. Which is 1519.05. Its their pricebeat guarantee.

  • +18

I thought the OP was having a lend but that's the actual model number.

    • +1

      What a beauty

Samsung LC49RG90SSEXXY 49" Gaming Monitor sooooo sexy

Samsung LC49RG90SSEXXY 49" Gaming Monitor $1500+ monitor exy!

Most I've paid for a monitor is $999 for a Gateway 21"CRT monitor with a non-glare flat screen and a fat bezel :) (19.9"viewable max res 1600x1200 @ 85Hz), the 21"got a bit much to carry to LAN parties (30KGs+) so got the new LCD monitor for $999, 15" 'gaming' LCD monitor, (fun times).

      • I picked up the SSEXXY earlier this year for my work-at-home missus. Only paid around $1500 cash thanks to that easy peasy Kogan $500 credit.

But I paid twice that and RRP for my LG 38GL950G. 175 HURRRTZZZ! EYE! PEE! ES!

  • it's only the G9 120Hz unfortunately

    • +16

the G9 $2800 for 240hz. This LC49 is 120hz at only $1599. A massive $1200 price difference for still a very good 120hz refresh rate.

      • -3

The G9 will soon be around $2200 on sale, as it is in other regions.

      • Oh wow… That's a nice 10 bit 5120x1440p 240Hz monitor and it does HDR too…..get two of these stacked on top of each other and you have enough height to watch your 2160p movies! Or fill your table with maybe four of these all around you, with two rows of them 9so probably eight in total) for a full 360 degree view……mmmmmmm……..

    • +11

Good luck pushing that many pixels beyond 120Hz unless you're playing Roblox.

Saying that, from a future proof perspective, it would be good to have. But I suspect most people dropping this much money on a monitor will replace it with something newer and better in 2-3 years.

      • +3

Can confirm. Running a 1080ti and it struggles lol.

        • +2

Can Confirm. Running a 2080ti and it struggles, RTX 3080 on order :P

        • My 5700XT sometimes struggles with the CHG90, would be painful with this model.

      • 1080 ti struggled with the G9. 3090 is smashing it tho

        • What about gtx960?

          • @nadan: Nope. You need next gen (i.e. RTX 3080+) if you want to get consistent 60+ fps on high settings with this.

            • @Ryballs: Yes, I checked and max res supported is 4096 x 2160. It means considering the cost of a new GPU as well.

    • The panel itself in the G9 is better, no dark smearing but for the price increase it's a tough sell

    • 240hz on a non-TN panel is not really helping. Pixels are not really fast enough. It’s just marketing hype

      • +1

If you look up the G7, the VA panel in that is pretty much faster than any TN panel on the market

        • Ya that's probably the only VA having sub-10ms response time in rtings. I personally prefer VA over IPS too for the true black but I am not sure if the limited view angle of VA would be a problem on a ultrawide

It's a shame that they are charging $$$ for 32:9 but not giving you the best VA or IPS panel

  • -2

Someone buy my 1080P 49" so I can buy this :)

    • i sold my 1080p one on ebay for $1200 pickup ~ july which paid for nearly all of my 1440p CRG :D

      • Wow I paid $1299 for it new..

  • +7

Just got an officeworks pricematch. No issues at all

    • Damn I really want to do the same but I already have a curved 34" Samsung :/

      • I really want to do the same but Bing Lee doesn't exist for WA really as they don't ship here ever it seems.

      • +1

Imagine how kickass your life would be with two ;) ;)

        • Imagine how more of a kickass it would be to have them all in surround for a full 360 degree view? And add to that, another row on top for the extra height resolution and field of view…

          • @Zachary: You are a wise man Zachary. I apologise for not thinking far enough ahead

      • Yeah same but I already have a 21" LG :/

        • mate, how can you compare a 21" with this sexy beast?

    • Match or beat by 5%?

      • Sorry, was a price beat by 5%.

    • +1

Does Officeworks do price matches if you checkout online?

      • +1

Just give them a call and you can order over the phone

    • +1

Was going to ask how you managed to get permission from your wife for this kinda totally unnecessary purchase. But then I realised that, with slush cash like that laying about, you obviously don't have one. Joy to you Sir!

      • +1

Pfft. My wife comes home with $5k ball gowns without asking. I come home with $10k bicycles. No one says a word. The trick is no kids. ;-)

  • Oh no. This hurts too much :'(

I just bought the one from Samsung EPP

    • how much did you lose?

      • Having a closer look, it seems I can't get this delivered from Bing Lee anyway, so no real loss… I paid 1699

  • -1

if you're spending this kind of money should check out 4k 120hz oled tv's

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XJXFe5zW_G0

    • +3

Cheapest LG OLED is almost twice the price?

      • +1

We'll have to see what the 48 inch comes in at, but I think you're right…

      • +2

If one is not in a hurry I bought my 55" LG C9 last year before Xmas for $1800. Not a huge jump up in price from this. The CX should drop to similar, unless COVID disagrees…

        • curious does it live up to the hype for you?

          • +2

@abctoz: I love mine and have decided I won't replace my current U2711 monitor until I can get a smaller OLED for my desk. So much better than any PC monitor I've seen.

          • +1

@abctoz: Mate, this thing is amazing. I didn't think it would be as good as it is. I don't think I can go back to a normal screen now, looks like I am stuck with OLED for life 😅

            • +1

@drinkin-beer: sounds sweet now to wait for prices to come down 😅 still using my 144hz tn panel from 2013 lol…

    • +4

Problem with getting a 16:9 is the height. When you hit 40 inches the monitor gets too high for comfort.

      • lower your desk then…..or suspend the monitor on an arm or something….was gonna show you an example of some guy who did it but cant find the pic anymore…

    • +1

LG's HDMI 2.1 is busted atm, November end fix according to reps. Until then, no VRR/G-sync & 60fps max.

      • They've literally just patched it, still Elevated blacks with VRR though…

        • Wait, what? I know LG did some early release firmware for the US & EU models, is that what u mean? If not, a link would be most appreciated. I got this 3080 & am stuck with 60fps ffs lol

      • Was fixed yesterday

        • Unfortunately it looks like they patched the firmware for the X series in the US & EU only, not the 9 series, anywhere.
If you have a link that shows otherwise, I'll be a happy man.

  • +2

I wish it was IPS :(
Then I would jump on it

    • +39

well i highly doubt it'd survive you jumping on it… IPS or not!

Note: I'm a dad .. this response is reflex

    • yeah I like the dell offering which is IPS but it's $2k. Do you think the VA panel is sub-par compared to the IPS in terms of pixel sharpness/ productivity i.e. MS Office?

      • Had this screen from launch you won't regret

      • I use my 1080p model for productivity (mainly Excel) and occasional game with no issues.

    • I agree.
Wished a monitor like this was IPS and supported Gsync-2. That 120Hz frequency, and the 1440p-vertical is pretty much what most people want. Whilst 144Hz and 2160-vertical pixels are nice haves, they aren't must haves.

Guess, it's still better to have two displays for now:
      - one main 27inch (3840 x 2160),
      - and a second 34inch for (2520 x 1080) for multitasking.

  • Just on picture quality, this or the Xiaomi 34"?

    • +4

This, by far. QLED colours, HDR1000 brightness, Samsung colour management.

    • +3

For the price, Xiaomi. While you lose some width, you get a slightly higher refresh rate for 1/3 of the cost. HDR on this monitor is a sham and neither are wide gamut panels

  • -7

Shout out to all the dipshits on the previous G9 and CRG9 deals who continue to not listen about Samsung's pricing strategies.

For those who want to wait even more, you might see this at $1100-$1300 on clearance in 3-6 months, and maybe the G9 will get down as far as $1899 in that time, but don't hold your breath. Expect $2200ish sales on the G9 over the next 3 months.

    • +6

isn’t that just any pricing strategy???

I mean doesn’t take a scientist to work out older models to drop in price over time lol!

      • -4

Yes, but their justifications for how and when things will drop price has been laughable, and then they'll argue for 5-10 comments without any supporting evidence.

        It's great.

    • "Maybe this will be $200 cheaper in 6 months" sounds like a pretty "dipshit" thing to say :)

      • -5

I'm sorry, I can't hear you over the sound of your ears burning.

Aside from nascent technology, companies make products to fit price points.

      • Someone remind him in 6 months time to see if the price has dropped $200 or not…

  • I want this to stack above my ultrawide Alienware. Just so I can look up and have all my windows outside of game open. Been waiting for a deal!

  • No idea why there's no oled model, and just wall mount it olds are so versitile.

  • Picked up the last one in Fyshwick Canberra thanks OP, after unsuccessfully trying this morning to get Harvey Norman to come anywhere near the previous EPP deal posted. Great timing!

    • +1

How large was the packaging? Would it fit in a Camry?

      • fit in even in small hatch bag with folding back seat

      • I think it would if you didn't have passengers!
