Says not suitable for hot liquids, anyone know why or if you can actually use it for hot? A construction material issue maybe? A bit annoying if this can’t be used for hot and cold.

      cancelled order, thanks.

      • If you are looking for Hot bottle check “THERMOcafe by THERMOS Stainless Steel Vacuum Insulated Slimline Flask, 1L, Matte Black, ED10BLK6AUS”

        https://www.amazon.com.au/Thermos-THERMOcafe-Insulated-Sliml…

        • I grabbed some 1l from a Myer sale and their huge! I realised I only need 400-500ml.

    • Not for use with hot liquids - drinking hot liquids directly from product may cause burns.

So as long as you dont intend to directly drink using the sipper lid … !?

    • I started looking into it. On the official Thermos webpage:

The Hydration bottles are intended for use with cold liquids only. Hot liquids can scald user.
DO NOT drink hot liquids directly from a steel vacuum bottle or from the stopper. Hot liquids may scald user.*

So it seems like they're saying don't use it because it'll keep it too hot and will scald the user. But if that's the case, why do they also have hot liquid specific thermos? I suspect it might just be trying to prevent any liability issues and tbh, I didn't really need another thermos so this is enough for me not to get one.

Seems to work okay IRL. On productreview:

It's not advertised to keep liquids hot for extended periods of time, but works well to carry a hot drink with you that you intend to drink fairly quickly (eg coffee for on the way to work). I make sure that it's at a comfortable drinking temperature before I put it into the bottle, so I don't burn myself.

Maybe they just didn't pay for certification for 100 degree liquids, or they applied and were denied because the lid doesn't twist a full 900 degrees before coming off or some rule. Or because the design resembles a sports bottle, their lawyers said you can't sell it as a thermos for hot liquids or surely one in a million will try drinking out of it one time. Or maybe hot liquid will damage it, cause it to expand slightly. I dunno.

        • Yeah, most the others are screw in ones. This is a clip in lid which may more easily be accidentally opened.

        • Wow, I would not have thought of those things! Appreciate the insight.

Maybe the mouth piece is bigger thn other bottles that are advertised as hot/cold bottles and hence that's why there is a risk of satisfying - nothing to slow down the flow to a safe rate.

        • Good point - can't imagine it would be a good way to scald yourself!

    • I have one of these and use it for hot coffee all the time. I was also wondering about this as it specifically says cold liquids only. I assumed either hot liquids cause some toxic chemical to leach or rather its just some silly legal reason. Regardless, it stays hot for a good 6+ hours

Marketing people spinning it with the 'hydration' bottle. That's the extra $7 added as well

  • Oh it's a hydration bottle, I was going to put salt in it, don't s'pose it's suitable.

Bought one from Amazon a few weeks ago for $19. Pretty good bottle, has limited moving/wear parts or parts to get lost or mouldy.

    Bought another in red.

  • No stock

  • Are any of these dishwasher safe? Seems ridiculous that stainless steel products need to be washed by hand.

    • We use these for school lunches https://www.amazon.com.au/Thermos-Funtainer-Insulated-Food-F… and have been washing in dishwasher almost every day for couple years. They also claimed "wash by hands only", but so far so good.

      • Yeah I wash my thermos in the dishwasher but the concern is that some of the materials may become toxic when exposed to dishwashing chemicals. Plastics start to break down and leach into water and foods. Like certain take away containers cannot be reused as they start to leach. If it's not rated for dishwasher use, it makes it hard to ascertain safety.

    • Think the reason is that over time a dishwasher will cause damage to the paint. I recently bought a Contigo Byron hot/cold thermos bottle, the plastic lids are approved for dishwashers but the 'coloured' bottles were not.

      • It seems like such a trivial reason to indicate they are not dishwasher safe. I suspect that may be one of the reasons as well but most unpainted ones are labelled the same.

  • I would spend three more $3 to get this Contigo
