Tenda Nova MW5c-2 Pack Whole Home Mesh Wi-Fi System, 235 sq.m Wi-Fi Coverage, Gigabit Ports, Work with Amazon Alexa, Parental Controls, Easy Set Up, Router and Wi-Fi Booster Replacement, Pack of 2

I bought this a couple of weeks ago from Tenda's ebay store for $97 so this is a much better deal. I have been happy with the performance so far (I am on a TPG HFC 50/12 plan). If you are with TPG, you will need to connect the main node to TPG supplied modem/router and use this in the bridge mode. Direct connection to the NBN device did not work, which was also confirmed in a few discussions on Whirlpool.

  • Damn I feel so stupid for buying the MW3 2 pack twice :(

    • Why? This has little details that I can see on the description.

      • +1

no i meant i bought mw3 for $63 twice because mw3 2 pk wasn't enough for my home. But this meant to have bigger coverage i think so i could have done with this onlyand $74

        • +1

This is just an updated MW3, seems to have similar coverage and specs, but allows for more connected devices.
So I think your decision to buy two MW3 2-packs was fine. Only really missing gigabit lan, which most people don't need right now.
$126 for 4 units covering your whole house, is a bargain anyway.

      • +2

MW3 only has 100mbit ports so you are capped at that speed basically. It's fine for me because I have 50/20 internet and don't see myself upgrading any time soon, and I don't really do anything on local network, but if the MW5c or MW6 had been closer in price when I bought I would have definitely opted for that.

FWIW MW3s have been otherwise excellent, great range and easy to set up. Had 0 issues and a massive speed increase across my Wi-Fi.

Thanks people. Was genuine, I'm weighing up whether to get mesh for my 2 storey town house. So far been using the xiaomi wifi extender but its patchy at times.

          • +1

@Skinnerr: I went from using the same Xiaomi Range Extender to the mesh fwiw. Massive difference. Unreliable 5-10mbps to solid 40-45mbps in the same spot (I get 45-47 wired).

            • @smmoove: You sold me lol, got one of the last ones.

        • +1

I have 3x MW3s, and have been considering 5G home internet, which in theory could deliver over 100mbit. If that ends up being the case, I believe I can update just the node that connects to the modem and continue using the other MW3s.

          • +1

@puffinfresh: Yep, afaik I know you can just slot an MW5c or an MW6 in and should be running fine.

Cheers, got this off eBay with 1% CR cashback hopefully.

      • I know nothing about mesh Wi-Fi systems and I'm a little drunk, so I bought the 3 pack from ebay just now. Afterwards I read the description that says "designed for larger households with 100Mbps or greater broadband services." My internet plan is 50/20, does that mean that this mesh thingy will be useless for me?

        • +4

You'll be fine. Think of these as your hose and your internet plan as your tap. As long as the hose (100Mbps) can carry as much or more than your tap supplies (50Mbps) then you will get all your water coming out of the end. The problem comes when you have a tap capable of delivering 100Mbps but your hose can only carry 50Mbps… as then you're capped at getting 50Mbps out of the end of it regardless of paying for a better supply.

      • Thanks mate. 3 pack on Ebay now oos but managed to get the 2 pack for$74.50

    • thanks mate, just grabbed a 3-pack for my parents.

  • What's the difference between this and the TP-Link Deco? Also on TPG HFC 50/12

    • I am new to mesh myself, but based on what I have read, Deco is considered better than Nova and is pricier too.

    • On TPG the MW5c is not suitable as a router replacement. For this purchase the Deco M5 or another mesh system that has VLAN 802.1q support and hook it up straight to the NBN NTD.

MW5c is suitable with TPG if used only as a wifi access point hooked up to your TPG router.

    • I can give you an opinion on the Deco M9. I am with Telstra so not sure if it works with TPG.

But super easy to setup, probably like 5 minutes to get working after unboxing. App is simple to use and coverage seems pretty good, also super easy to add extra points. No complaints so far.

      • Deco works with all ISPs.

    • +1

Decos look better in my opinion. Performance is great as well for the Decos and connect directly to the NBN box for TPG.

What is the difference between Mw5c/Mw5s/Mw5c?

    • +3

      MW3 - All dual 100Mb lan units
MW5 - Primary dual 1GB lan - secondary nodes are wall plug units with single 100Mb lan
MW5s - Primary dual 1GB lan - secondary nodes with dual 100Mb lan
      MW5c - All dual 1GB lan units

  • just ordered $99 3 pax tenda mw3 from shop square this morning, order hasnt been processed, hopefully able to cancel it.

Can you connect other tenda models to this? E. G. Connect a mw3 to an existing mw5c mesh network?

    • Yes I believe you can.

  • +1

My MW3 works fine connected directly to my FTTC NBN NCD.

  • Bought it from ebay on afterpay option. Thanks op.

  • +2

These mesh systems go over my head.

How do I connect one to my existing Asus router? I'm currently on FTTP with Opticomm.

    • +2

Plug it into one of the lan ports and turn your asus router into bridge mode

      • Will they use the existing Network IDs so I don't have to change everything over?

        • +1

Yes, can change the SSID and password to be the same as your previous one. This router will have 2,one for 2.4ghz and one for 5ghz (not sure if your old one did)

    • Don't buy this. Just buy another Asus router/extender and use AI mesh.

      • +3

Which is at least twice the price

  • +2

What is the different between MW3 and MW5c?

    Can we used together, i mean linking together. 3 x MW3 and 1 x MW5c?

  • +1

    oos

  • Found out the MW3 doesn't support any other encryption other thank TKIP which is very disappointing

    • I don't believe this is correct

  • been waiting for a good deal like this for a while but I guess "you snooze you lose" :|
should get a different job so I can bargain hunt at night

  • +1

    The Daewoo of mesh systems
