[TAS] Free - $150 Travel Voucher ($550 for Families) from TCCI

700

Source -

This voucher gets each resident $100 in accommodation and $50 in experiences.

Got a family? You'll get even more out of this scheme with families of five able to claim $550 in vouchers. This is broken down into $150 worth of accommodation and $50 in experiences per adult (that's $400 for a couple). Plus a $50 experience voucher per child, capped at three children.

The vouchers can be used from 7 September to 1 November which includes the spring school holidays from 26 September to 11 October.

When you book, make sure that the accommodation and experiences are of the same or greater value than your voucher amount. As this scheme is meant to stimulate tourism you must spend at least the voucher amount on your trip. Any claims under the amount, for example, a $99 hotel, will be invalid.

Only once you've completed your trip can you make your claim. This must be done within 30 days of your trip and will be provided as a reimbursement to your bank account.

Already got a trip booked from September to November? You're in. These are still eligible for the scheme. Just make sure you're registered for the voucher and follow through the claims process as normal.

Something else to note is that multiple registrations are allowed. However, you'll need to complete and claim each trip before you can register for more vouchers.

I'm not eligible, but this is a great stimulus for Tasmanian tourism operators.

To register for a voucher you must:

      Reside in Tasmania.

Not bad, but not as great neither.

      But still better than nothing.

      • -1

well, by telling the truth (which i feel), i have no idea why people are giving negative votes (without providing their opinions).
but in fact, more aussies became less friendly in our local community
        that is a such shame

  • +3

If it wasn't obvious already, you have to reside in TAS to be eligible.

I was wondering how people are expecting to cross interstate with these restrictions but that makes sense.

    • +2

I guess a Tas resident coming back into Tas might be able to put the $100 toward the $2800 mandatory 2 week Quarantine in Hotel :) also pity each head doesn't count so can double dip (Im Tasmanian by the way)

      • Or they can just quarantine at home for free.

        • Unless they're coming from Vic or another hotspot, then they have to go into hotel quarantine for $2800..

There were rumours it would only be valid for weekdays. Good to see that never happened. Good idea but it's not going to save many places from suffering. It's obviously a stop gap measure with hopes that borders will reopen and tourists suddenly flood back in. I can't see that happening.

      Hmmm…in the FAQ it says:

Where can I use my voucher?

      Accommodation

You can use your accommodation voucher at establishments allowing short-term stay on Sundays, Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays for the months of September, October and November 2020.

Property styles can include apartments, backpacker and hostels, bed and breakfasts, cabins or caravans in holiday parks, cottages, farm stays, holiday houses, motels, hotels, resorts, retreats and lodges.

      • MVP bro!

Accommodation vouchers can only be used for Sunday to Thursday nights

Experience vouchers can be used any day.

They are still deciding whether the hire of a camper van will be covered!

But the hire of a caravan park site is covered on the stipulated days

      • How can one not love a Wally!

    • No. Please read the FAQ.

There is nothing about a lockdown for Victoria for another 12 months.

      • -2

Not yet, he's trying to trick the cross benchers into accepting it.

        • Really?
          I give up.

Anyway, these vouchers are obviously only available to those in Tasmania, as the borders in Tasmania are closed to arrivals until 31 December

          • -3

            @GG57:

            Really?

Yep really. Why does he need Emergency powers (ie. no scrutiny) for 12 months?

There are already existing laws and he's had 6 months to fix up any gaps that are needed to manage this.

Basically, he wants 12 months to do whatever he likes without scrutiny… Maybe he should move to North Korea if that's what he wants.

      • We don’t live in the state of Victoria, we live in a state of emergency under Dangerous Dan.

        The buck doesn’t stop!

        • +1

Serious question but why are Victorians so against their premier? I mean from our outside perspective it was everyone's own stupidity like not quarantining after being tested is what contributed to you getting into this mess in the first place.

Gutwein's strong measures early on paid off for Tassie and even the far left are praising the job he's done.

          • +1

@Clear: My understanding is the majority of Victorians are not, most are happy with him and taking restrictions seriously and believe it's the right thing. A vocal minority seem to be pushing back. To be fair I think a lot could be small business owners who have been hit hard.

I notice for example on his Facebook page it seems to be a handful of people who seem to spend a lot of time replying to everyone who says anything positive saying how horrible he is. There is of course SKY/news.com.au etc who are always going to be 100% against everything he does and some people eat it up. The opposition guy just won't shut up, because basically no-one even knew who the guy was until this happened because they were never going to get in anyway, they're clearly hoping this might get them a couple of votes. Then you've got idiots like Sam Newman and the Jims mowing guy.

There were potentially a couple of people who did the wrong thing and got us in this mess, but even that's in question. It could actually mostly just be bad luck. One thing I think he did wrong was easing restrictions when things were starting to go wrong in Vic. Most of the people I know were still sticking to them. I'm not sure anyone who is against him thinks he shouldn't have lifted restrictions when he did. The opposition were pushing for everything to be opened up much sooner, so far better that it was him than them, he held strong for a while. He did then kind of blame people for getting together when he'd said they could though, which was shit.

Same thing happening in QLD, a few vocal people against border closure, but most are all for it because it gives them more freedom. Also complaining about being "shut down" because they're limited to gatherings of 10 without a COVID safe plan or something.

  • Great initiative - is this delivered by the Tassie gov?

    • Yes

    • -7

WA government via GST :-) Edit: oh you haters :-) We all know WA is bitter about GST flowing out and Tas being a bottomless pit.

    • +2

It's a $7.5m initiative from the Gov to help out the tourism sector since we're shut until at least Dec.

That means that if an individual claimed $150 ($100 for accom and $50 for experiences), only 50,000 vouchers would be available. But then this gets muddy when you get families involved who can claim up to $550.

There'll be a huge rush on Monday to grab a voucher. I wouldn't be surprised if the website can't take it.

Thanks OP. As I recently relocated to Tassie this is a great find. Mrs. C and I are already having a great time exploring the area, this will definitely be a big help.

  • anything for victorian prisoners please?

    • You can walk to your local park for 1 hour as long as you're back by 8pm.

Unless your a drug addict that uses the North Richmond injection service .. then the police'll give you the blind-eye or a lift home

        • -2

          Yep, there's always a loophole.

Told my wife and kids if they get caught outside of 5km, or after 8pm, just tell the police you're just going to shoot up heroin in Richmond, and all should be good…

          Thanks Dan…

          • +1

@jv: He's planning on opening another …. maybe this time within 5 km of your place! lolz

              • -2

@jv: You mean a franchise of the Communist Party

    • If you are rich enough, or have connections in the right circles of government, apparently you can go anywhere

  • looks good, how do i register?

Can I use voucher to travel to Cairns?

  • CRADLE MOUNTAIN HOLIDAY & CARAVAN PARK have some good deals at the moment
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/562034

    https://www.discoveryholidayparks.com.au/caravan-parks/tasma…

I might look at taking my campervan up there to make use of the travel voucher, using the "STAY 3 PAY 2" offer and booking for 4 nights on a powered caravan site = $105, so it will only cost $5 after the $100 cash back…
