              • @taoz: Because of your help, I gave Tango a call today.

They explained that every new customer has rates freezed for the first 2 years, then rates are brought up to market prices (so often quite a jump after 2 years, like your 10%). They said that rate freezes can sometimes be extended, but didn't explain anything further, only referencing the recent COVID issue and that they hadn't increased any customer's rates until July 2020.

I pre-empted by signalling I intend to churn to either GloBird or Amber, based on recent price comparisons. I don't expect that to make a difference.

                • @muwu: I'll be moving unless they reduce the cost.
Whole electricity market is a joke.

                  • @taoz: I wouldn't expect reductions in prices.

I try to keep providers honest with increases closer to CPI or industry averages (e.g. 2-5% per annual, dependent on service).

Sadly, like you alluded to, once you're an established customer, loyalty doesn't mean anything. Churning from one provider to another is the way to keep your increases close to that 5% per annum mark instead of the 10% mark.

Not just power suppliers. Any utility provider. And insurers.

If I was in the business of one of these providers, I would identify customers who are proactively price comparing and prone to churning, and take that opportunity to communicate price increases early and keep them more modest in line with industry averages. Surely that customer retention would serve their profits better than the typical bait 'n switch method of incentives for new customers and larger staged increases for established customers.

Honestly believe service providers and insurers could be a whole lot smarter with their marketing and customer retention strategies 🤷‍♂️

                    • @muwu: tango wouldnt do any better, so time to look for another provider. Prices do seem to be alot more than i have been paying. crazy this rubbish

  • I flipped all of mine a couple of years ago to Globird before copping high increases. Kept gas with them as it was line ball, though time to re review. Went to Tango for elec and they had a 2 year period which I missed, so got 1 year… They said every Jan they increase (review) if not in a fixed period, though I think most do at the new year. Tango increased a decent amount too, though I didn't check out offers in detail after a quick look. Going to scope out anyone who can offer more stable pricing and then ring both to see what if anything they can do, especially for better fit rates. I did have a spreadsheet set up to compare as daily usage rates can make or break some and to read bills and figure out how to compare is enough to make you visit Mr Murphy!

Has anybody even received a response from them stating they can't beat? I have a feeling they might just hide from the emails they can't beat.

  • Does VIC's energy compare uses actual data or just an average of the day or month against multiple contracts? Anyone know of a webpage that can help compare contracts based on actual usage (from the 2 year smart meter data csv file)?

    • have you actually gone to the vic compare website, it clearly states you can manually entered, upload a bill or data file.

      • It's been a while since I visited, should have checked before asking 😣

  • When switching retailers, do you get slugged with connect/disconnect fees?

  • Anyone got their $100?

Never replied to my email about comparing. Sent them a pdf of my bill with Tango.

Okay how do I withdraw the neg? They actually replied to my email and offered the $100 without any insistence .

        • Same.

Got email today, requesting bank account details for deposit.

          Anyone else out there?

  • Got my $100, well done @GloBird.

    • Didn’t get mine? Did you text or email?

      • Email, might have to wait there may be a backlog

    Hi X,

Thanks for sending through your bill for compare. It’s impossible for us to compare these unbundled offers against a standard simplified retail plan as we offer.

    Just got my email…

    • I'm guessing that means they didn't give you your $100?

  • Disregard, I'm an idiot and didn't see these other responses.

  • Thanks for kindly sending us your recent Tango bill to compare. The rates you have are excellent, and we cannot beat the bill. So as promised we’re happy to confirm your already on an awesome deal, and pay you $100 for giving us a chance to compare. If you fill out the table below and reply to this email, we’ll transfer $100 to your bank account.

    Bank

    Account name

    BSB

    Account number

Please carefully fill out the correct details, as we can only make one transaction attempt.
    Thanks again

Just sent them my bank details. My Tango rates went up on Sunday (after 12 months fixed) but my most recent bill still had the low rates.

They didn’t reply me until today after I submitted comparison request on Thursday. Signed up with $50 referral on Sunday. So hopefully will stack with the $100 (even though T&C says it doesn’t).
