50% off Prepaid Mobile Broadband (Modem & 6GB for $39) - Virgin Mobile

90

5 day online special

There are appears to to be three deals
1. Standard modem with 400 MB. 25% off, $21.75 - Not such a good deal.
2. Premium modem with 6GB - 50% off, $39 - A good deal.
3. Wifi modem with 4GB - 50% off, $49 - Probably a good deal.

I needed to recharge and instead I've purchased the modem with 6GB because this is half the recharge price, and it includes a modem.

I think:
1. the Standard Modem is the Huawei E160E
2. the Premium modem is the Huawei E1762
3. the Wifi modem is the Huawei E5832

but i can't tell from the site.

  • Noticed its 90 day expiry with the 6gb deal

After I add it to the cart I get..

Due to system error we were unable to process your request.

We are very sorry for any inconvenience caused. Please do try again later.

    • I purchased about an hour ago and while the site was slow, the purchase went through.

    How good is its coverage?
I am currently using its USB modem and it takes 2 min to load google homepage

    • +1

I use Virgin mobile because they use Optus, so the coverage is reasonable.

        You're jesting, right?

Im stuck on Virgin for another 10 months… it's a painfull wait, the coverage in Brunswick East, VIC is a shambles, I'm lucky if I get a decent reception on the gsm network (on my iphone), which is why I turn off the 3G on my phone.
I was on Vodafone before Virgin & even they had better 3G coverage in my area LOL.

I work all over the Perth western and northern suburbs and get working and usable internet virtually everywhere. All the places I drink and eat get a good signal. I use my Samsung Galaxy and Google Maps all the time. My place of work in Nedlands and my home in Ascot have perfect signals.

    • "How good is its coverage?"

it's OK if your stationary in an area that has coverage…

on the move though is another story… lots of dead spots along my journey each day… real pain when trying to listen to streaming…

also, lots of congestion near CBD…

  • I noticed in today paper
Woolworths have a good prepaid deal (byo modem, phone)
    $29 recharge gets u
    5gb data
$250 calls to any network + $250 calls to optus network
    45 day expiry
10% when you show you every rewards card
    Also Optus network

    • I wonder if the reception is better than Virgin, as they both run on the Optus network (& my 3G reception is non existant)

Any reason why a Telstra Next G modem
(ie, from an earlier OB deal: $49 for 5 GB)
wouldn't work with a Woolies SIM card?

Anyone know if the Next G dongle's locked to Telstra?

      TIA

  • Can someone tell me if the USB modem will work if I plug it into the USB port of my Toshiba tablet? I'm new to this,

    • if you can successfully install the drivers, yes…

  • I needed to buy more credit this week - yay! Annoying to sign it all up with the new modem but worth it for the price and 100 days expiry is the deal-sealer for me.

    • 90 days, but who's counting…?

      • Me & the website. Clause 5 - "Included data has a 100 day expiry."

        • Oops… Right.

The standard deal (1 for $79) may have been just 90 days…

  • Should come with free wok

    • +2

      comes with crap net-wok.

    • It does… Your walk to the door, with ID in hand, & receive it from delivery person. :-)

  • Now 30-day expiry on all 3. Has it changed?
Each has footnote no.4. There is a footnote #5 for 100 day, but not referenced above.
edit: missed the #5 in the graphics as I did a text search. And I should have clicked the link.
So it says 100 day twice and 30 day once.

Note both modems are 900MHz only for 3G.

    • Save the web page(s) that say 100 days, buy, & try.

If it lasts 30 days, make it a TIO issue & win.

    • Yes, the period was raised to 100 days (icon to left of item image on Virgin's prod list page)

  • Premium Bundle (6 GB to be used over 100 days) includes a Huawei E173 USB dongle (presumably locked to Virgin?)
