Ryobi 18V One+ Brushless Angle Grinder (Skin Only) $153 @ Bunnings

310

Ryobi 18V One+ Brushless Angle Grinder $153 down from $219.

It's a good unit with plenty of power, best results with 6 and 9ah batteries.

I'd jump on it if I didn't already have one.

Cheers.

I have too many angle grinders lol but I also have 2 ozito cordless grinders as well, is this Ryobi worth getting?

    • +1

Depends how many letter boxes or sign poles you want to steal

    • +1

Depends. Do you ever find the ozitos lacking in power for a job you need them for? Is so, maybe. If not, why would you?

    • I've got an extensive range of Ryobi tools and I'm my opinion although the Ozito Power X Change look the part they don't seem to be up to even Ryobi performance in some of their tools.
In particular I have the Ryobi 18v dropsaw and the Ozito 18v drop saw and the Ryobi powers through the cuts way better than the Ozito.

Other comparisons would be their 18v line trimmer and blower still not up to spec with Ryobi. Their drills seems to be fine depending on which model

Edit: Just to add I have a 115mm One + non brushless angle grinder and it's copped a beating and still goes strong after about 6-7 years maybe more

Battery sticks out further than the grinder on this, which means if you are trying to cut something flush against a hard surface, then the closest you can get is to the point where the battery sticks out to. Silly design.

    • Cutting like that is usually impeded by the spindle or guard of most grinders anyway. Has this actually hindered you in any way, or are you just slamming the design?

Cut it, then grind flush. Seems like you're finding a problem that isn't really there. I use metabo high power commercial grinders daily at work and I've never found that this tool has even been left wanting in my home environment (and I use it on average 4-5 times a week at least).

      • Definitely is a problem that is there. Was trying to cut a piece off a window frame that needed to be removed so that i could fit blinds. The Ryobi battery sticks out quite a bit further, than both the cutting blade and guard. Go and check it out in Bunnings if you don't believe me, then look at all of the other brands, which don't have this issue.

I agree its stupid design, but it looks like you needed a multitool

        • Agree with what old mate says. Seems like you needed to use a different tool. If I ever run out of clearance with a grinder it comes down to cut, then grind flush.

This bulky battery is the price the Ryobi pay to keep the old stem design as opposed to the newer slide style packs. But, like I say, never been an issue for me… And in the limited applications where it could be, a different tool or process is usually the answer. Maybe I've just become accustomed to working around tooling limitations without thinking about it in my many years of fabrication.

@Znark: I used another brand's grinder and it worked just fine. Luckily I didn't own the skin on this Ryobi one (although i do have the 18v ryobi eco system). I just borrowed it from work.

            • @KRM123: Fair enough. Every job is different, as is every tool. Only reason I commented was to not dissuade people from a good deal on a good tool for a problem that will likely be very rare to most users.

  • HI OP, can you please share deals with car polisher? Thx

    • I don't think there is any deal on the polishers sorry? They're at their usual $99 and $119…

      • okay thanks let me know if you see any

  • This is a great grinder.
If a grinder isn’t brushless it’s pretty much pointless
Make sure you use the 6ah & 9ah HP batteries
This is a cheap price. Hopefully it’s an indication of price drops to come on their entire range, as they don’t drop prices often

I dunno, I got the brushed version (picked up a couple of months ago with 4ah battery for $149) and it’s been fine for the few tasks I’ve been using it for (mostly cutting rio). The brushless is obviously better but for occasional use the brushed one is okay if the price is good.

      • +1

Use your angle grinder longer than a minute or two under pressure & it will cut out……and cut out…..and cut out. Brushed is only useful for quick jobs

        • Not quite true. I have a brushed Milwaukee grinder,

          https://www.milwaukeetool.com.au/power-tools/grinders/angle-…

and it works just fine. Had it for about six years, gets used heaps. My boss has the same grinder and again it gets a lot of use. You have to be pushing them pretty hard and beyond reasonable to get them to cut out.

The Ryobi brushed grinder on the other hand does cut it out easily if pushed even a bit.

          Not all grinders are equal.

  • I'm a bit of a noob to the game here, is this a new price as in a price drop or a transient sale?
    - I don't NEED these tools yet but I have used the old man's for jobs in the past. So I'm wondering if it's best to get them now or if the price is now just less and that I can wait?

    • +1

Get one, don't open it. If you ever change your mind, just return back to Bunnings.

      • Good idea :)

    • +1

I'm pretty sure it'll be a transient price.

  • Yesterday I bought a grinder (non Brushless) for $99. Am I better off to return and get brushless for additional $53? I did not get brushless as it is $119 more than non brushless. but $53 seems affordable - pending if the performance is worth spending $53?

    • For $53 extra it's definitely worth it mate. Hurry, don't think the price will stay low long, going by my previous experience.

Thanks bud, grabbed it the same day! haven't used it yet.

        • Hi there max. Just wondering if you still have your receipt???

    Brushless grinder back to $219

  • Hi there… I had this in my cart last week but the price shot up (was wanting to pay from my account and waiting for pay to come in)… the lovely Bunnings manager promised to price match it if someone can PM me a receipt.

    Many thanks.
