  • No discounts on gigabit? ):

  • Is there a similar offer for NBN?

    • -1

Yep .. OptiCom made a deal with NBN to be able roll out fibre in some shopping centers and buildings (i believe with crown group developers but cant be sure), in the shopping centers where my work is mainly dealing with they created a monopoly (ala NBN) and services were only allowed through their fibre (if you wanted to the premise it was at your own cost) so mainly via FTTB (basement in shopping centers) … the selection of ISP's that will the resell this is much smaller though but its good to see Aussie B in there as one that you can safely depend on :)

    • Closest thing right now is 1 month free or $10 off per month, but ABB have jacked their prices compared to Superloop, so compare and figure out what works for you.

    • Code seems to work on NBN

Use it at your own risk though :)

    • Barefoot do $79 a month for 100/20 and $69 if you bundle in a mobile plan too.

Hmm I am paying $90 for 100/40 with Exetel, once the 6 months on this plan is up I'd be paying more for less. Good deal for the 6 months, not worth the hassle for me personally though.

Same boat here, though the Aussie BB customer service is far better than Exetel.

    • This is exactly what is stopping me from churning. I would churn in a heartbeat if they matched Exetel with price and speed - even with a lower upload speed cap.

I like Aussie BB but $99/month for 100/20 is getting a bit rich

Ive gone to Mate NBN who have been just as fantastic and also local. Their regular 100/20 unlimited plan is $79/month

  • I am with Activ8me at the moment, not much issue until recently that it’s been generally slower. I reckon it’s because more people are working from home.

I have had good experience previously with AussieBB but does anyone know how quick the switchover is? Like the downtime?

    Thanks.

    • If you're with Opticomm, downtime is minimal. The switchover should happen around 15-20 minutes and you just need to switch the cable at your ONT to the next port.

    • I signed up last week - was up and running in under 30 minutes.
Just needed to restart the ONT and plug the CAT5 into the right port on it.

Code works on a normal NBN address too, might get knocked back if used.

Opticomm? More like floppticom. I've heard disasterous things about how they handle the network, with peak time speeds being lower than 4G… You have been warned

    • Rubbish. I'm on gigabit OptiComm right now. My only network issue has been my router. But I'm replacing that soon.

    • I've heard disasterous things

From where? I just did a speedtest now at peak hour which resulted in a download speed of 90 Mbps and upload of 38 Mbps. Never had any complaints of slowdowns, peak-time or otherwise in the 2.5 years that I've been on Opticomm.

I suspect the Opticomm network is far less congested than NBN too.

Yeah actually my bad, seems like they're OK nowadays. This was a few years back, a couple of local estates had all sorts of issues, but looks like that's all resolved now

Thanks OP signed up to normal NBN with the code and it worked. They connected the service within 2 hours. I had telstra NBN before and the they wouldn’t give more than 40mbps. I chose $99 plan with Aussie and after &20 off I am paying $79 which is same as telstra but speed of 100mbs.

    • They've closed that gap now - "Invalid promo/referral code provided"

  • Anyone currently using them on opticomm that can confirm the quality of service? Currently on leaptel but saving $$ would be awesome. Tyty

    • While I can't comment on the 100/20 plan, I signed up for the ultraspeed - I get 300Mbps minimum during peak and I've clocked at max of 850Mbps. Uploads at 48Mbps
I'd basically conclude that you should be fine….
I think they claim average speeds of 86Mbps (in their CIS), but my plan's CIS says 215Mbps so take from it what you will.

  • Code worked yesterday on the NBN business plans also yesterday.

Unfortunately got called away and didn't complete the signup, and the code does not work today.

Good luck to those who used the code yesterday for NBN, I snooze I lose :-(.

Full price of $109/m for 100/40 is a bit dear when I am still on Telstra Cable for $89/m with phone calls.

  • What happens to the customers who signed up last week at full price when ABB launched in Opticomm, any luck on cancel and re-sign up ?

    • Hi there,

Unfortunately, like our NBN promos, they aren't available if you cancel and re-sign up within 6 months.

      Cheers, Nicole

  • Just checked on a new Lightsview (SA) address and it gets hit with $300 connection charge. Bit rich considering most waive that or have it below $100. Kind of wipes out any saving made on the discount.
