[Refurb] Google Nest Hub Max $188.99 + Delivery (Free > $300 Spend) @ Expansys

70

Good price for a Nest Hub Max.

It’s reconditioned and says may have a non AU plug but will come with adaptor

I ordered two and it was free delivery. One on its own wants $38 delivery but couldn’t find what the free delivery threshold is

Edit 26/8: Available again with $5 price drop, $188.99, was $193.99.

This is part of Father's Day deals for 2020.

Cue the “bring back the Good Guys $129 deal”. But in all seriousness, what kind of warranty would you get for a device that’s got a non AU plug?

  • Free shiping is $300+ as per their 'delivery options' page:

"h) To receive free shipping from Expansys's smartphone, headsets, tablets, smartwatch, etc, spend A$300 or more on your total purchase. Shipping fees and taxes are not included in calculating purchase amount of the A$300 minimum purchase thresold. Expansys reserves the right to modify or cancel the promotion at any time."

  • Would be a deal if it wasn't for the non-AU plug

    • yes that worries me a bit also, likely to be an US charger

      • Easy to rewire a plug

        • +3

Which is something you shouldn't be doing.

@scuderiarmani: Yes - quite ridiculous. The most basic feat of electronics which everyone in the UK is taught as an early teen at school!

Seems like a ruse to keep electricians in work!

            • +1

@digitalane: @digitalane I notice that in home renovation shows from UK. It's perfectly normal for home owners to do their own electrical wiring and plumbing. We have been brain washed to believe It's normal to pay people to do that stuff

            • @digitalane: Well that's nice and all, but in Australia we have laws for a reason.

We don't encourage people to modify things they don't have the skill to do because they have seen a video on Youtube.

              • +3

@scuderiarmani: Wiring a plug is hardly a difficult task! Surprised we are allowed to change a light bulb without calling and paying an extortionate fee for an electrician!

                • -5

@digitalane: Please tell me where it's illegal to change a light bulb?

It doesn't matter if it's difficult or not.

                • @digitalane: Red is live
                  Black is neutral
                  Green is earth.

The hardest part is getting hold of a plug you can disassemble without looking fugly!

              • @scuderiarmani: We have laws because the electricians and telecoms unions are the ones who get to write and amend them.

          Easiest way to void warranty

        • with the pliers to bend the prongs into shape?

  • What’s the warranty like on these(if any)?

    • Dubious at best

    • Assume 12 months from
      Expansys themselves.

  • +1

So this is refurb plus grey import.

    • Plus non Au plug, plus elevated shipping costs, not sure about warranty

  • +1

    The price is ok.

Only issue is we are looking at a refurb and on top of that a grey import. You are doubling up on your risk here.

At what point do you just buy a used one on Ebay from a random.

    • Never seen them go for under 200. Price is good enough for me to take the chance.

  • +2

Not an Australian Company, based in HK
    Very Poor reviews

    https://www.productreview.com.au/listings/expansys

would rather buy full priced Items and feel at ease, if i need to claim warranty

    • Well Apple only has 2 stars on Product Review

      • much easier to get warranty out of Apple then this company ;)

        • yeah that's true, I'm just saying Product Review is so biased lol

    • +1

Expansys have been around and successful since late 90s. I used to work for a company that shared an office with them in the UK (which is where they originate from).

  • +2

Yeah too much risk eg plug, warranty for not much off $

    • -5

$156 off - 45% off. Well worth the risk to me! Not sure why people so worked up about a no AU plug. I’d you’re not willing to do a simple rewire with a $3 plug from Bunnings, then get a $5 US/AU adapter

      • +1

Yeah I wish it was that simple to rewire. Its a plug pack so you will need to buy a universal one or shop around for something with the same pin size and voltage/amp requirements.

  • +2

Yeah that's a NO from me.

  • Can you install apps on this?

    • nope, but you can link apps(netflix, youtube etc) and cast from your mobile, tablet etc, or play via voice commands

  • If you have enough Telstra plus points you can get the base model for free by redeeming your points at the telstra plus rewards store. This is how I got mine.

  • +1

I ordered two 2 weeks ago and they both work perfectly. They arrived in the original box and included a reverse AU adaptor.

  • Showing 239.99 to me - not sure why?

    • price went ⬆️

  • This is now back at $188.99 + Shipping (free > $300)

  • So the price is 188.99 + 38.20 shipping = 227.19
Now if you look a the goodguys deal with the $40 cash back it brings it to = 298-40 = $258. For an extra $30 I would go for the Goodguys deal as you get the full 12 months warranty rather than 3 months from Expansys and you also get a brand new AU stocked item.

  • price up again, not trustworthy with such frequent price fluctuations
