Noticed that the iPhone SE is $150 off, similar to this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/550568 but it wasn't discussed there and I thought it worth attention.

Usual caveat that it is technically purchasing with a payment plan linked to the contract. Factor in that you'll need at least one month (unless you're lucky and get prorated) at a minimum $35. Still makes it $634 which, ignoring the oddity and mental gymnastics of the Optus flybuys deal, makes it a good price.

  • I ordered and got a message at the end to say they will call me or I need to call them before they could do the credit checks. Upon calling their number, I get a recorded message saying that due to COVID, they can't take my call.

Judging by this thread I might not ever get a call… so dodgy. I guess I'll try later…..

Oh and they SMSd me with a link to a 3rd party website, which then tells me it needs to take a photo of my face and some documents. I didn't proceed with that yet. They are big on extracting oodles of personal information!

    Anyone else had this rubbish?

    • Had the same problem, I did the third party site and hit up live chat who gave me a different phone number to call.

      • Thanks, that gives me some confidence. So you gave them your photo etc?

Did you live chat with Voda or the third party site?

And in the end did it all get sorted?

        • I did the photo verification on the 3rd party site and did live chat with Vodafone, in the end it ended up getting sorted and my phone was dispatched a few hours ago :)

@WoodYouLikeSomeCash: Looks like Vodafone aren't having a good time at the moment. They are either struggling or not interested in new customers. (Probably the former)

I did the ID verification thing today, that took a few goes, my gateway server seems to have been blocking some of the elements on the page and it was giving me an error when doing the face recording. Had to get off my wifi to do it, which worked in the end. Until now, still no contact from Voda.

The only place I can find the live chat link is on their Vic COVID page but clicking it takes me to an undefined page. Was this what you did and it worked? Maybe I'll try a different browser.

There's a bunch of numbers for making appointments at local resellers. Thinking of calling one of them or trying a few of the national numbers tomorrow.

            • @Corgsta: It usually pops up on this page. however it can take a few different devices to get it to show up.

              • @WoodYouLikeSomeCash: Ahh got it going, my server blocked it. I spoke to two live chat dudes (the first gave me a phone number to call which didn't answer, but at least he confirmed my credit check). Rang another number which the second dude gave me and navigated the menus, then they did a call back shortly after and I actually spoke to someone! They completed the application and it's awaiting despatch. ETA Monday… Phew what a rigmarole!

The people were all very nice and polite though. I confirmed that I got $20 off the first bill and discount to $35/mth.

                • @Corgsta: Update: arrived today. Now to work out how to set it up for privacy before I transfer data and contacts to it…

                  • @Corgsta: What do you mean by set it up for privacy?

                    • @WoodYouLikeSomeCash: Ah just adjust settings to minimise tracking and personal info sharing. But seems iOS is pretty good anyway and has lots of options and is quite clear. Really depends on apps. Trying Firefox Focus.

  • Is this the outright price ? Or the price over 12/24/36 months if you close the contract early? Following that link I can't see an outright price available. Happy to sign for 12 months and close early though if it's the minimum cost stated.

      • Yup I see that. So more or less, you sign up for a 'monthly handset repayment', but you just pay it off in full, right?

I cancelled mine and only paid ~$680 was meant to be $724 but got some discounts due to pro rata. (iPhone SE 128GB)

          • @WoodYouLikeSomeCash: Legend. Thank you. Will do the same. I just got hung up on the monthly handset repayments. But makes sense - it very clearly states the minimum cost is $639 for 64GB + the SIM card. If I can get some refunded/pro-rata that's a bonus. Still a solid deal.

@[Deactivated]: Yeah, and if you want to confirm you can always place the order over the phone or live chat and ask them the minimum cost :)

FYI This is now minimum $549 for the iPhone SE 64gig

  • +4

And minimum $629 for the IPhone SE 128gig

  • I'm moving abroad once borders open. Can I claim a tax refund on the iPhone at the airport?

  • Does this have vodafone pre installed apps? Or is it just the same as if you bought it from an apple store?

    • Same as if you bought it from an Apple Store/JB Hi-Fi, etc. iPhones come with the same apps, etc. regardless of where they’re purchased.

  • Hi, I went to get this deal in store today and they told me that the minimum price EVEN IF I cancel after 2 days, is 549 + 35 + 35 = $619, but I expected minimum price to be 549 + 35 = 584 dollars. So I called vodafone support and they are saying same thing, minimum price is 549 + 35 + 35 = $619. Their logic is, even if I cancel after 1 week, I pay the 35 plan plus 1/12 of the handset price, and only on the SECOND BILL will I be able to pay off the phone in full, hence requiring me to pay minimum 2 months of the plan, not 1. Is this true? I swear so many people here have paid minimum ONE MONTH. can someone please clarify?

(Also, when I go on to vodafone page on my PC the lowest price month to month for the plan is 40 dollars a month, but the store employees computer shows 35 a month as lowest. this is weird, but the 5 dollar difference isn't much, the issue is do I have to pay MINIMUM 2 MONTHS?) Could someone please clarify… Thank you so much..

They're wrong, the T&Cs are pretty clear - 1 month minimum:
Minimum monthly spend is $35, $40, $45, $50, $60 and $80 respectively plus handset costs. Must connect for minimum one month. Total minimum cost is one month of your plan fees plus 100% of the MPP instalments of your chosen device. If you choose to cancel your Red Plus Month to Month Plan, your MPP will auto cancel and 100% of the remaining handset instalments will be applied to your next bill. Recurring monthly plan fee charged until the end of the month in which you cancel

      • Confirmed on phone today can cancel anytime even in first month, but you just need to pay the one month fee (net of discounts/credits/etc).

Oddly enough I had to make a prepayment of $230 though towards the handset and it just felt so dodgy having someone call me up asking me for my CC details…

        • Got mine this morning (Wednesday 24th) which isn't bad given I ordered on the 19th (Saturday).

  • Is this phone locked to the Vodafone network if you cancel early?

    • Not locked, ever. Never
