    • If you buy one its $699. If you buy two its also $699. So they are actually offering you $149 off for one, or giving you another one free for that price. They aren't asking for a higher price for one - they are in fact giving you a discount. It's a buy one get one free sale, not 50% off sale.

Just left Noosa store with fuji film s3400… 2 old people, that were aware of the deal - did not want their 2nd camera, walked out with 1 only:/

  • Just picked up two Sony HX9V. The bloke was "since it's a sale, I'll throw in a warranty" and tried to charge the sticker price $599 ($499 on the website). Told him it's $499 on the website and he adjusted the price, and left the extended warranty in the deal. Thanks OP!

    • Where did you get it from? And did you see if they had more stock?

  • 3 (after I bought 2) Canon G12 available at Campbelltown HN at 1 PM. No staff and no customer at the camera section at all.

My spare G12 is spoken for, sorry.

  • Just bought 2 X Canon G12 for $699. As a true bargain hunter i even tried to get the $699 price down (JB $537) but they said there not doing price match on this offer…

  • Anyone in Sydney up for Olympus XZ-1? :) Ping me at winstonpang [at] hotmail

  • Can I ask what the big deal about the G12 is? :)
(this is coming from someone who goes "Oooh" when there's a big lens protruding from the front. :p)

    • +2

The G-series is Canon's flagship range of compact cameras. The target market is enthusiasts and not point-and-shooters. The bigger price tag buys you a bigger and better sensor, better optics, better ergonomics, less camera lag, loseless RAW format, external flash support, etc.

      http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/CanonG12/

      • So, lets say I'm a guy that just leaves it on auto and points-and-shoots, I take it this would NOT be the camera for me? :)

        • +3

I'm sure it can do auto just fine but then you may be paying for some things that you may not use.

Have a look at the Sony HX9V, that might be more to your liking. It does all the thinking for you. The video is amazing too along with the awesome image stabiliser. I was recording videos while walking briskly and the video footage looks like it was shot using a steady cam type rig.

        • +2

Not the camera for you if you want to save money, want a small camera you can put in the handbag, want a camera that looks good and not chunky.

A good camera if you value image quality, want to hold the camera securely (better framing and less fuzzy photos), want to capture that "moment" instead of "wait, my camera is not ready yet". These benefits are available even if you only use Auto.

        • Hmm good point guys.
I might pass the G12. It looks pretty and all but seems a bit high maintenance.
I'd want an easy camera just to take pictures with, I COULD learn how to use it properly but I don't think I have the time to do so.

Besides, with summer coming up I'd be hesitant to lug something that large (and expensive?) to the beach. LOL.

        • +2

Maybe get a waterproof camera if you plan on taking it to the beach. I'm sure you'd have a lot more fun with it if you're not being too overprotective about the camera getting wet.

        • +3

if your looking for a good water proof camera i would suggest Sony Cyber-Shot TX10B
          http://www.harveynorman.com.au/product/1256975603681/sony-cy…

Ive got the TX5 (version before) and it is fantastic! really fun to take on the beach, swimming, whatever! and the picture quality is awesome as well, i use it all the time on nights out where i can't be too precious about the camera and it takes great night photos. also it is alot slicker looking that most water proof cameras.

also got them to price match on an iconia tab as per the good guys post. ozbargain win!

  • My Harvey Norman won't sell the G12's. They say they aren't part of the promotion.

    • Print out this page and show them. It is all in black and white.

      • My sister is buying it in case they enforce the 1 per household rule. I sent her back with instructions to check the website. The money is out of my bank so she must of got it.

They only have the display (which is less than a month old) and 1 out the back. The other stores I phoned are sold out.

Edit: She got them. The store Manager said it's a website error and is phoning headhead office.

    Thanks for this post!
Picked up two Sony DSC-HX9Vs for my grandpa and my mum.

    TIP:
I called up beforehand and was told they had 3, and they were $599 but I mentioned HN website stated $499, which he immediately agreed to.
When we got to the store, turned out they only had 3 on order. Furthermore, he tried to tell me that $499 would be the price for 1, or I could pay their RRP ($599) for both.
Luckily, I had opened the HN website link on my phone, showing both the $499 price and the Special Offer of buy one get one free. They then readily agreed to give me both for $499, on back order (2-5 days wait).
This was at HN Warrigal rd, Victoria (new, used to be Clive Peeters)

    So:
    - Call ahead
    - Don't let them con you into paying the in-store price. Bring proof of the online site!

  • Harvey Norman Belmont in WA seems to have quite a few stock left of the Canons.

I bought 2 of the Canon SX230 for $449. They wouldn't price match the website price.
Still a pretty good deal though.

Let me know if anyone is interested in the other one.

    • Interesting.. I got 2 of the sx230's at the website price (the rep was saying new price labels were being made as we spoke)
So final price was $221 each camera with extra 2 yr warranty

Maybe go back and ask them to re-check your price lneooenl - think they do a price guarantee (happy to send a pic of the Belmont HN receipt)

  • I'm after a half decent waterproof camera. gah. was thinking the sony @ $437 or should I go TG-310?

    • I have the Panasonic DMC-FT3 and it's bloody fantastic. Not sure what the others are like. I'm about to get one each for my Dad and girlfriend.

    • Got 2 of the Panasonics. Read the dcreview of Q3 2011 rugged cameras, the FT3 (same as the one in their review) comes out on top.

  • Adamiam - good tip - just picked up 2 DSC-T10s at Martin Place. They were $449 each but just realised that website was $437.

In any case he gave me 1 extended warranty free (for peace of mind) when I purchase the other (c.$120) and got 2 x Sandisk 8GB Extreme cards for $39 each - about normal but was easy to pickup.

The Martin Place one says ALL compact cameras excluding SLR and interchangable lense cameras. A few people wandering around looking to tee up someone else to also buy the same camera and to split it.

    • You should get them first before asking here. I'm at HN garden city this morning and they are out stock of G12, just last one for display.

      • I agree. Indooroopilly has none and Oxley only have the display model. That was at mid-day.

Let me know if anyone would like to go halves. You get to choose whether you want additional warranty or not.
    I'm in Glen Waverley, Melbourne.
    Email: [email protected]

  • I am thinking the Olympus XZ-1 $499 on their site so $250 for one.

Is it the best for this price?

    • Seems that way unless another store does some insane discount. They're usually around $400ish at other stores, possibly cheaper if you're okay with grey imports.

EDIT: Sorry, I think I misinterpreted your question. It depends on what you're after but it's a great value camera for $250. My other choice was the Sony HX9V and I'd say that's by far the best if you plan on using video quite a bit. Like a couple of others have said, they're two different cameras.

  • everyone going halfsies, are you getting two copies of the receipt?

    • Yup, managed to get 2 copies of the receipt…didn't actually asked for one, but the nice lady selling the cameras to me knew that I'm sharing the deal with a friend, so she just got 2 receipts printed out…they're not all evil in HN..:)

  • Anyone in Ipswich area wanting to sell me the Canon PowerShot SX230?

    • I'm in Bundamba. I've got two copies of the receipt.

Paid $393 so it will be $196.50

      • what colors?

        • Black.

      • Sweet i'm in, give me your email address and we can meet up :)

        • maf101 @ internode .on .net (no spaces)

      • email sent, plz reply asap

        • Thanks. It was in my spam folder.

  • I got the last 2 Sony HX9V camera's from Alexandria.
These cameras are the bomb. I suggest you go for these if you want a good quality point and shoot. Much better than the Panasonic TZ20

    • I found the price for HX9V on ebay is around $300 cheaper than Olympus XZ-1 aroun $400. But they are the same price at HN.

So I would think XZ-1 is better.

      • They're completely different cameras with different usages.

        • Sorry I am new, in what way they are difference?

      • The HX9V works out at $250. Amazon has these from $299 + shipping.

  • +1

Just remember people you don't have to buy 2 of the same camera 2 for 1 of equal or lesser value, I picked up a Panasonic Lumix TZ18 and a Canon Powershot SX230HS for $399

Just an update of stock at the Marion Harvey Norman in Adelaide, There are no G12's no Sony HX9's, no more TZ18's I got the last one, and there is maybe 2 more Canon SX230's left

  • Anyone in Newcastle still wanting a Canon SX230 contact me.

  • Anyone looking for a G12?

    • i am….

      • i am too!!!

        • me three, email me: siaopai at yahoo dot com

  • I just picked up 2 Sony HX9V's at Erina NSW. Last 2 in the store, interestingly they were advertised as $497 there so I didn't have to quote anything it was actually cheaper than online price (a whopping $2 cheaper)

Haven't decided if the 2nd one is going to be a christmas present or selling to recoup some money yet.

We got 2 Canon Powershot A2200's also, $129 for two. Presents for christmas.

    • Good job getting a $2 discount! :) I've seen them sell for around $300-350ish on eBay but if you decide to give it as a Christmas present, I'm guessing the recipient would be pretty happy with it.

  • In VIC, Richmond is out of the Olympus XZ-1 but they report that Frankston have some in stock. She also stated that the sale was in regards to what was currently in stock and orders couldn't be placed with the promotion conditions.

  • I've got an Olympus TG-310 Tough Digital Camera (Blue color)with extra 2 years product care, belkin small camera case, 16 Gb Sandisk Ultra SD (2 sets purchased $352 from HN Osborne Park). Anyone care to share please contact me $176. Perth based. Cheers.

  • Re: my purchase of Sony HX9V. What sort of SD memory card would people recommend, will any Class-10 suffice (for the 1080p video) or do I need one of the higher end "extreme" ones (20MB/s+) ?

    • Nevermind, I've found that any decent Class-6 or above will suffice. I'm going to buy a class-10 anyway as they don't cost much more.

  • HN Nunawading got heaps of SX230 if anyone nearby wanted one, their price is way higher but you can get them to give u for $393 tho.

  • I got two Cannon G12's from Joondalup (Perth). There were 7 total when I rang to put 2 aside. They also said Cannington had some. Price on the shelf was actually $675 so they gave it to me for that after asking. Thanks OP.

  • Anybody in Albury or Wagga area interested in going half with Canon G12? Pls email me at mailjamest2(AT)gmail.com
