    Wow didn’t realise Kmart/Target sold AudioTechnica…

    • +19

      You'll probably get Audeo Teknika…

    • +1

It was a part of the Black Friday sale items

    • It actually says to me it's not a premium brand anymore really.

Whenever shit flows down to kmart,or aldi

it's usually means it's become consumer garbage.

      • yeahhhh most of their mainstream products like the m50x's were pretty average even back when they came out but were carried by a clever YouTube promotion blitz.

They're definitely pumping out a lot more cheapos carried by the brand these days.

        • No idea why you guys are getting downvoted. The brand has been tainted by cheap consumer grade nonsense for ages. They still make good things - but you can't just assume they are good cause of the brand.

          • +4

@krunchymoses: When it comes to wireless headphones, what makes something "good" for me is build quality, battery life, and sound quality. From what I’ve seen online, these seem to meet at least a passable grade in all three areas. At $250 RRP, they might feel overpriced, but at $99, they seem a no-brainer. I don’t see how anyone could consider them "bad." Sure, if you compare them to the Sony XM4s/XM5s, they might not measure up, but those cost over $300, not $99.

            • +2

@sleepwizard: Did not comment on the product - commented on the brand itself.

These look decent. But that's not the point being discussed. I agree with all that - I would be tempted to jump on this if I didn't already have a decent set.

  • Can clearance items be price matched at jb hifi?

    • Want to know this as well. No stock at Target near me. KMart is far. Wish I can price match at JBHifi.

      • +3

        Delivery is free

  • what the. audio technica at kmart/target? yes pls

  • +6

review here - sound is good, considering price, but no case and they don't fold - https://www.tomsguide.com/headphones/audio-technica-ATHS300B…

    • Seems like one of those "chuck it in the bag" disposable cans

    • +2

Hahaha what are those MSRPs: $99 USD, £99, but $249 AUD!?!?!?!

      • yeah - there are other sights that list it as 99 in Oz…. but how could certain retailers say they were on sale if it was just RRP?

  • -1

better to get Anker at this price range

    • Which one?

      • +3

wait for sale (probably christmas/boxing day) on the Space Ones it was down to $119 on Black Friday, comes with a case too

      • +1

Anker Soundcore Q30, can be picked up for $80 when on sale and sound AMAZING after some EQ fiddling, see this reddit post.
The ANC is pretty good, not as good as the best Bose and Sony, but the sound quality is right up there. Pretty good app too.

        • +2

          These?

          https://www.soundcore.com/au/products/life-q30-bluetooth-hea…

Currently half price at $85 and free shipping (ymmv)

          • +2

@ferrisb: This seems like a good deal, but compared to OP's listing, these fall short in battery life. With ANC, they offer 40 hours, and without it, 60 hours. In contrast, the ATH-S300BT delivers 60 to 90 hours, potentially over an extra day of use. The ATH-S300BT also seems better designed, with a more comfortable-looking headband and ear pads (though I could be wrong).

Sound-wise, there’s probably not much difference. I’ve used Anker earbuds (A20i), and they performed well for music, movies, and YouTube talkback. Even so, I don’t see why anyone would choose the Anker Q30 over the ATH-S300BT. Audio-Technica is a respected name in the audio world, and it’s unlikely these headphones stray from their trusted sound signature. With ATH-S300BTs still priced as high as $250 in some places, it’s hard to imagine Audio-Technica compromising on sound quality at that price point.

The main issue with Audio-Technica seems to be their lack of aggressive marketing compared to brands like Sony, Sennheiser, or Bose. They tend to fly under the radar, with most people associating them primarily with turntables, a market they’ve dominated for decades. But, like Sony, they also excel in other categories, including headphones. From what I’ve seen, the ATH-S300BT looks like an incredible deal. The battery life alone makes them tough to beat.

            • +1

@sleepwizard: I'm not really sure about AT flying under the radar - for years, possibly over a decade, the AT-M50s were the most recommended headphone in many circles. Speaking of the M50s, the stock pads on them were notoriously hot/uncomfortable for longer sessions, and the pads model in this deal look to be cut from the same cloth, so i wouldn't bet on their comfort.

          • +1

@ferrisb: Thanks bro - just bought as a xmas gift to myself :)

    • +1

      Did you mean Anko?

      • +1

        no Anker’s Soundcore brand

either the Space Ones which are usually down to $119 during sale periods or the Q45s for 150

both comes with cases as well

        https://amzn.asia/d/9yBzJzu

        • I got a pair of Q45s recently. I'm really impressed with them. I've got a big head and headphones often don't fit comfortably. The Q45s fit well and can be worn for hours.

          • +1

@banana365: yeah same, I wanted something middle of the road and not overspend for Sony/Bose ones and these were perfect, I just used them for air travel and they were comfy for the whole 8 hour ride.

            Battery lasts for ages too

            • @Freestyle: What's the call quality like? Can it be used for Teams call?

              • @cherpu: this is personal preference but I like it, I used it for meetings from outside and people could hear me properly. My main reason to buy it was for air travel and use with my TV at night, it worked perfectly for that as well, its comfy and sound quality is good after tweaking the EQ a bit.

i used these reviews to make a decision

                https://youtu.be/OHLKuEUg86M?si=uxfrUh4LmU18I9dB

                https://youtu.be/M2oipNghlxw?si=mUxgOSitGB8mIVcC

                https://youtu.be/A9ruIOxeQv4?si=aVx2x7Yu7E0mga7y

                • @Freestyle: Thanks for the detailed response.

                • @Freestyle: [s]How did you tweak the EQ? All the reviews I read stated they are not compatible with the app, and there are no EQ presets.[/s]
Oh the Ankers - sorry I thought this was for the Audio Technicas.

I was interested in the Ankers until I read that the EQ tweaks work in ANC mode, but with ANC turned off the sub-bass cannot be tamed enough. Unfortunately I'm not able to watch those videos you have linked right now, do they offer a fix for that?

                  • @sam buster: possibly use an EQ app separately in yr phone? It's a pain - no one I've seen has an answer for it. The headphones come with a cord, so if yr willing, you could go through a dac/dap

              • +1

@cherpu: Teams calls are one of the main uses for my headphones. They're good for that.

          • @banana365: Seems to be the norm. I'm jealous - I had to return QC because they were hurting around the back of my ears.

          • @banana365: Definitely only for those with larger heads. For my average size head they are comfy but no where near snug enough. I tried them on a flight and the slightest head movement was enough to 'break the seal' and let in outside noise.

They pretty much just fell off my wife's 'small' head. Great sound quality for the price though

            • @Richocho: Ha! So finally there's somewhere that having a huge head wins! OK, it's very niche and largely insignificant, but you take what you can get.

        • Anker's Soundcore line is a great product for people not ready/planning to spend several hundred for headphones/earbuds. They are generally in the $100/sub$100 range.

I have used the following over the years and they have all been great.
          Earbuds:
          Spirit Pro
          Liberty Neo
          Space A40
          Liberty 4 NC (current)

          Headphones
          Q30

I've only picked up the Bose QuietComfort SC in a recent JB Hifi deal.

          • @muddrex: I've only used the Anker a20i's but they are without a doubt one of the best value for money earbuds I've ever bought.

Also picked up the Bose's recently, but part of me still wants to grab a pair of these (I'm a headphone junkie).

  • +2

Thanks, OP! I've been looking for a new pair of wireless headphones. I was eyeing the Anker Q45 for $150 with a coupon, but these seem like they'll work just fine. Thanks again!

  • +1

    Are the earpads replaceable?

  • +2

Sometimes you have to choose between going for a discount or buying something that lasts. Noise-cancelling headphones are worth spending a bit more on. I got my Sony XM3 in 2019, and six years later, they’re still great—awesome battery life and sound. If you’re looking for one, wait for the Boxing Day sales and get a Sony XM3 or XM4!

    • I have a pair or xm4s and QC45. I found the shallow ear cups of xm4s to be a bit uncomfortable and makes my ears hot as compared to QCs. Sound volume also comes out to be lower than QCs. So I mostly end up using QCs.

      • How does the call quality compare between qc45 and xm4s? Is qc45 decent for taking teams call during commute?

        • Yes. I have been advised that sound on the end was great even in noisy conditions.

    • +4

This is $99. XM4 is $300 or more on sale…

      Not comparable.

  • +3

    Thank you. Purchased.

  • -3

That RRP puts them at m50 level.

M50 is a far better item.

  • +7

Bought these during black friday for $160. Decent noise cancelling and comfort, but awful call quality. Any wind whatsoever is audible. Returned and jumped on the $300 w/ cashback WH-1000XM5 Woolworths deal. Worth the huge price jump in my use case but if you don't care about call quality these are alright for $99.

    • Did you happen to try the call quality indoors?

Only reason I ask, is because my main use case would be Discord.

      • +1

Call quality indoors was ok, but any noise around you will be heard. When using them for discord, your voice won't sound like it does with a wired headset mic, you'll sound like you're on a phone call.

        • +1

          Ah okay, no worries.

I guess with worse case scenario I can use them as a (hopefully) decent pair of wireless headphones for movies/games/music.

    • What about sound quality? Similar to WH-1000XM5?

      • +1

Sound quality wasn't anywhere near the XM5's unfortunately, as you'd expect for more than 3x the price. Doesn't mean they're bad though, just not as good.

  • +2

    Can they be used wired?

  • Thanks OP. Ordered.

  • Order placed! 🤙

  • Would these be any good for DJing with?

  • OOS online

  • +1

1 left in store Melbourne CBD.. it's behind the service desk

  • Thats a massive price dropped. I wonder if it is a pricing mistake. These are released newly even in Japan and have good reviews on Amazon Japan.

    • More likely that they're clearing special Black Friday only stock.

    • Sounds like a pricing mistake by K-Mart, they cost much more in Japan still

      • The price reduction is pretty wild for something barely 6 months old.

  • I have a pair of $650 Audio-Technica headphones I no longer use (constrained by heavy cable - too high-end sibilant)

I paid about $164 for the Bose QC SC at JBHiFi's half-price sale on 29/5/24, and I use them (I'm wearing them now) as my everyday wear for the best noise-canceling peace and quiet in noisy environments as well as good enough sound with bass/mid/treble adjustable in the Bose Music app

quick google found this fairly incomplete comparison giving this AT 49 points to Bose SE 70 points - https://versus.com/en/audio-technica-ath-s300bt-vs-bose-quie… - - suggesting the AT does not have active-noise cancellation … ?

    • What is the model number of these $650 audio technicas?

  • Thanks OP grabbed one for my upcoming overseas travel and for study / work at home. Don’t need the greatest and latest and price is too good all things considered :)

  • My order refunded. :-(

No email/explanation from Kmart, of course…

    • Over 7,000 people clicked on the link. My best guess is that they sold out, and for some reason, Kmart isn't updating the website to show there's no more stock.

    • Same and I ordered 3 days ago for next day special delivery. Useless bunch at knary

  • +3

Got mine today. They look and sound pretty decent. I have no frame of reference for other wireless over-ear headphones but I'm pleasantly surprised by the sound quality.

    • +1

I received mine today as well. They’re a heck of a deal for $99. Very happy with them!

  • Useless Kmart emailed me a cancellation for my order 3 days later despite it saying at checkout next day delivery in time for Xmas. What a useless company. Can see why everybody uses Amazon now

    • Exactly the same for me

  • No stock despite showing stock on website. U get cancel email a few days later

  • Yep got the cancel email too. purchased the day the deal was posted.

  • +1

Strange. I ordered last Friday, but I wasn't hopeful as the app said unavailable online but low stock in my local stores (although it was inconsistent if they were No stock or Low stock depending onwhich screen I viewed). Naturally I tried click and collect with the bonus I would get them before Christmas (home delivery said despatched after 3-5 business days, so I knew there would be no chance of getting a Christmas delivery - and the email said I would recieve confirmation when depatched in 3-5 business days!) but the website wouldn't let me. Oddly, for an item "Out of Stock" online, I was able to select home delivery though!

On Christmas Eve I saw a pair behind the Customer Service desk and bought them - the manager even advised this saying there would be no chance of the online order getting fulfilled.

    • +1

My delivery came through! Alas I shall be returning them.
I have the set I bought on Xmas Eve, but I find the sound quite dull. In fairness to the headphones, I do suffer hearing loss in the vocal ranges, and my music may not be the best source material (a lot of what I listen to is from the analogue era).
The build quality is nice, they are very comfortable and light. The bass is nicely controlled and there is depth to the whole sound. The mids and highs are there and distinguishable, but I need to crank up the volume quite high, which I don't want to do. It's a real shame there isn't an app as I have been fiddling with a third-party equaliser, but with not very satisfactory results.
In contrast, my previous headphones were JBLs and they were very bright, which became harsh and unpleasant with volume.
These Audio-Technica are generally warm and should be sonically comfortable for long listening sessions.

  • Seems like Kmart cancelled orders, but Target didn't (out of stock now though).

  • +1

Ordered and collected 2 for xmas prez from local Kmart, thanks OP

  • +2

    Ordered 21-12-2024
    Delivered 02-01-2025
Came from kmart burpengary,Qld. 15mins away from me.
Took only 12 days to make the 15mins journey, but who's counting lol.
I am grateful though that my order didnt get cancelled, at some point I was thinking I'd have to hit up Kmart for a refund.
Thanks OP for sharing the deal, these are great headphones for the price !😎

  • just bought mine yesterday, off to pick up tomorrow!

  • I just placed a delivery order. Let's see

  • Keen to know everyone's thoughts when they get delivered. I'm looking to use them for work, so want to see how good the mic and ANC is for an office.

  • These came back in stock so I grabbed them, they're about what you'd expect for $100, extortion at RRP $249, and makes me really appreciate my Beats before they got flogged, and also my QC35s, but these are great for this price and perfect for WFH meetings and YouTube at the computer.
