Are you one of the people on strike?

WW website show the item is in stock in multiple locations near me in Vic.

        No.

WW website show the item is in stock in multiple locations near me in Vic.

I can never trust the website. Says stock, go in and nothing.

        • +4

Where did you get the information that all stores OOS in Vic if it wasn't the website?

    • +8

Bnnings' one does not have individual switch for each outlet.

    • +11

Neither have surge protection. They have safety overload protection. Very different things.

      • +7

Well today I learned. Good to know!

        • What do they mean

          • +3

@capslock janitor: One protects devices if too much current supply comes in from outside eg lightning strike hitting the house or street transformer.

The latter (this one) will cut out if you are drawing too much current via the devices you have plugged into it eg trying to run a large amplifier, a heater, a kettle all at the same time.

Ended up grabbing this one for $21.50. Extra USBs plus surge protection

        • Looks good. Can you tell me if it has mounting holes on the back? I note the OP one does not. I like to mount mine to the side of my desk.

          • +2

@Frunk: No mounting holes as such, but it has a little clip on the short edge (behind where the USB slots are) that slides up to create a small hanger. So it can only be mounted in the "vertical" orientation as shown on the box photo. The clip looks pretty flimsy too so not sure it is of any real-world use unfortunately.

      • Do you need surge protection if you live in a high rise apartment??

        • Only if you’re on the bottom floors.
6 and up are safe, unless theres an earthquake or a fire.
          -Source ; humour

          • @ozy: So better to buy high levels above 6th floor, has savings no need for Power Surge protection.

        • Depends if said high rise has a surge diverter installed on the incoming?

    • +1

You should compare like for like-ish product in which case this one is still more expensive

      • Still not "like for like". The one you linked to has surge protection.

        • …but reviews are not very positive.

I find that Click branded products are a bit hit-and-miss. Probably little or no QA at all.

          • @bio: They are cheap for a reason…

    no surge protection.

Thanks, been needing to get one of these instead of plugging and unplugging all my kitchen appliances.

Thanks mate, was wondering what to use it for, I'll do the same

Sandwich toaster especially, doesn't have an on/off switch so have to plug/unplug each time. I don't know why they don't just put a switch on sandwich toasters!

        • +1

I believe a sandwich toaster should be plugged directly to the power outlet.

          • +2

@bashar20: To a non-engineer, can someone please explain why many bigger appliances ask you to connect directly to the wall socket ? It's a major hassle in a kitchen with limited power points.

            • @y2k: More than likely due to current draw. Plugging high draw appliances into a single powerboard and sharing the single input with multiple appliances will cause it to overload. If it doesn't have overload protection, then it'll cause a fire.

          • @bashar20: Sounds about right considering if we turn ours on at the same time as the kettle it always shorts the powerboard. We only have one wall outlet in that spot in the kitchen unfortunately.

  • This has illuminated switches which is good. The older versions didnt even have a red dot to show the switch was on which was a bit annoying.

    • I put red dots on mine with a permanent marker … yes seriously lol

      • LOL I'm not the only one!

Save another 5% by using price beat guarantee at officeworks

    • The OzBargain way.

  • Plugs need to be carefully pushed to go in. It is hard and break if not careful

  • Would it be as reliable as something from a reputable brand like HPM or Clipsal, or these basic boards are all the same as long as they are certified?

    • Jackson is a reputable brand for power boards and adapters.

      • +1

Hmm, just done a quick search and come across this link. Doesn’t give me a lot of confidence. I’ll probably spend a couple of extra bucks to go with HPM for some extra peace of mind then.
