Jackson 4 Outlet Individually Switched Powerboard with 1m Lead & Illuminated Push Switch $11 (Was $22) @ Woolworths

1240

Needed a 4 switch power board, saw this on the Woolworths site and went in to get one.
I was surprised to find that it's not the one pictured on the site but the updated one, the new one has Illuminated Push Switches.
They had the old style as well, they had the same model # PT1614.

The push switch are great and show what's turned on, here are the details from the Jackson site https://jacksonpower.com.au/products/6-outlet-individually-s…
Ignore the 6 outlet part in the URL, if you click on the link it shows the 4 outlet one.

    Is jackson a good brand?

      It's easy as 1 2 3….

      • There's always that one comment that has to be done

      It's missing one

Australian brand, made in China like everything else. Has a lifetime warranty so it should be ok.

      • Thanks mate

    • Not bad. Bought when these were $7 or $8 (it was a half price offer)

    • name doesn't really mean much for the most part, they all come out of the same chinese factory. same item, different brands

      • I would have thought more reputable brand had better quality control?

        • +2

Main advantage of Aussie brands is if they burn your house down you can find the management and burn their house down.

Finally a switched powerboard with the cord exiting the left and at a good price..

Then I was bummed that it's not mountable with keyhole screws. It has a silly hook thing.
I want it for the smaller tools in the workshop. Don't want to waste a gazillion dollars on a sparky for something simple.

    • +1

I mounted mine with the pull-out hook vertically, which worked well for me.
You could probably drill a shallow hole into the back and push it onto a mounted screw if you are handy and want it horizontal.

      • +2

I could do that and void the warranty. $11 no biggie.
Knowing my luck one of the holes would be where a wire is close.
Definitely want horizontal. Maybe I'll liquid nails or epoxy it to the wall in a sleek timber frame to hide glue squeeze out.

        • +1

You could maybe mount it on some Velcro/ hook & loop dots then you can remove if you needed to.

        • +4

Very very easy to open up a powerboard and drill out your own keyhole from the inside

          • +2

@AngryAlfred: These have "H" type tamper proof screws under the rubber pads on the back. You'll new a special screwdriver or make one by grinding the centre out of a flat bladed screwdriver of the right size. If you don't want to void warranty just use really strong 3M double sided tape.

        tax invasion tradies

Just picturing an army of folks in their fluros with their screwdrivers about to invade the local ATO office…

        • You may laugh, but it’s critically important that we broaden our tax base given the unfavourable population demographic of advancing age. The mission of the ATO (Australian Tax Offensive) is to do just that, by pillaging all non-Australian wealth that is rightly ours. New Zealand might be a soft target, but let’s face it — a few million head of sheep is hardly going to amount to much for the effort involved

          • +4

            @tharlow:

            You may laugh

You don't laugh because you've missed the joke (evasion vs invasion).

          • +2

@tharlow: The invasion of tradies may help us stem our demographic decline, but we need non-tax evading kind.

            • @smalltime0: I think the Australian Tax Offensive will really take off when we take delivery of our nuclear subs. Then it will be time to raid some tax havens, baby!

This model has surge protection https://jacksonpower.com.au/products/individually-switched-s…

Plug it into a surge cube or something..

    • Check your meter box, you may have surge protectors in it, either as a dedicated circuit or on your RCDs

    • The black one has surge protection.

  • +1

I got the black one with the USB ports for $19.50.

    • Me too. Grabbed a few for different rooms.

    • +11

I got a black Jackson, but it later decided it wanted to be white.

      • +2

I wonder if anybody nose why they do that

    • Wish it was in white too. Lighter coloured ones make it easier to see where to put the plugs in.

  • Is the sockets on this wide spaced ?

I've been using the DOSS SPB44 board which has all sockets wide spaced and individual switching https://www.doss.com.au/spb44-4-way-surge-protected-power/ but havent seen a decent price drop on them for a while.

    • I don't think so. The Amazon Echo power adaptor will take two slots from this

      • Ah ok, thanks for the reply. I'll just wait on another price drop on the SPB44 board.

      • +2

why can't every board have at least 1 wide spaced socket?

    • The Earth pins are spaced at 45mm centres if that helps you at all.

      • Thanks for the info, on the Doss boards i'm using all sockets have 60mm between the earth pins.

Vant afford eggs no more but bought a power board. Thanks Woolies

They should do a 5 plug one called the Jackson 5!

    • Love it!!

    • I think they did, but they re-designed it and renamed it when Michael died.

    • Would it come in black or white?

  • Is it alluminated now, it gas always been a red sticker

  • Unfortunately the Woolworths I went to only had the non illuminated versions on the shelf.

    • Same. Bought one anyway as I needed it

    • I think it may be a bit of a lottery, some may have the older stock.
My store was Carnes Hill, which had about 8-10, including 1 of the older ones.

  • Thanks OP. Bought both this and the 4 USB port version.

  • I want it all,…..where is the "Surge" feature?

  • If buying the 4 USB port version, make sure you get the newer illuminated version as it has both surge protection and overload protection. The older one only has surge protection labeled.
The extra $9 is very much worth it for 4 extra USB ports and surge protection.

  • I had the black version with 6 sockets. These are poor quality the plug essentially melted on the plug holes themselves

    • Melted the USB or power sockets??

      • That would be a worry since the max draw on USB sockets is 5A using EPR.

      • Power socket

        • Was it the new one with the push buttons or the old one with the rocker switches? I got the new type today and when pushing a plug in it feels firmer than any other socket I've ever seen, and I've seen a few as I'm a Sparky. Maybe they had issues with the old one and went overboard on the new one? I'm not sure if it's tight on the contacts or if it's the safety shutters causing the firmnest, but I think it's the contacts as the plug takes a fair bit of oomph to remove it too.

          • @whitey: The USB port are similarly firm as well. Have not felt such resistance before.

  • +1

The bottom of the package said lifetime product replacement warranty so maybe try to claim that.

  • +1

For anyone still wanting to jump on this - fyi, the switches are push buttons. The LED light isn't so bad but the push buttons aren't great. I got a couple and both are iffy and loud when turning on and off. Not a biggie for most but depends on the situation it could be quite annoying.

  • Got 2. Thank you OP.
