There’s a new version with usb-c. Might explain the lowering price for this model

Maybe… but it also dips to 40 ish pretty often

      Great board. Bulky as though.

This one is $39 at TGG Commercial

      • Yep. Unnecessarily bulky, and even though there's ample space, the sockets aren't spaced widely apart, so good luck arranging bulky plugs, especially since there's 4 + 4 (back to back) as well… this board was a pain in the ass and wouldn't fit under my entertainment unit.

    • Yeah the 6 port and 4 port were also reduced before Christmas. I snagged a couple. The newer ones seem to be SurgePro and the existing ones SurgeMaster/SurgePlus

These are huge but great for surfing .

    • Kids are after boogie boards so I’ll keep this in mind ;)

I have the 6 outlet version. Horrendously big as comented before with a lot of wasted space in my opinion.. The USB ports will charge a phone but very slowly. The reason I bought a Belkin was because I wanted something that was safe and reliable. Two years in it has achieved these goals.

    • Yeah my biggest issues with the Belkin one I have are the thing is huge, USB ports charge super slow and the on/off is indented so it collects dust.

Individual on off would've been nice but not a necessity.

  • Goes to set up kids new light from Christmas. Needs a power board. Checks ozbargain.

    Thanks OP!

  • I've got the 6 outlet version of this which i've had for ages and it's been great. It powers my PC, monitor, speakers and stuff. It's a big powerboard but i made room for it. I bought it for the brand name and reliability.

Honestly, I have been really happy with the Click 8 Outlet board with USB-A and USB-C outlets. I bought 2 of them from Bunnings, at half the price, its really hard to beat.

I had the unfortunate opportunity to test the surge protection during the recent Brisbane storms. We had a very close lightning strike which browned out the entire house. It tripped the surge protection on many of our powerboards in the house from various brands I have collected over the years and the Click brand ones worked fine, no electronics were damaged. I had to flick the switch to reset them and they were back to normal.

This reads like a product endorsement TBH - just saying.

      • Fair point, to be clear, I am not a Bunnings employee or affiliated with Bunnings at all. Just giving me 2 cents based on my experience with a power board that Bunnings sell that is listed at half the price of the Belkin one.

At the same time, I have a Thor branded power board for my home theatre system which I paid over $100 for. Depending on how important the items attached are, sometimes its worth spending a bit more for piece of mind or extra features.

This is OzBargain after all, and I would argue the Click brand one is a pretty good bargain.

    • I have wondered how insurance companies would rule if in a lighting storm one of these "protected" power-boards failed and a connected electronic device caused a fire and forensics could trace the cause back to the power-board failure; I'm sure they would try to get out of paying out especially if forensics found an Ali Express no-name PB.

    • Shame it does not mention surge protection details.

      • True, I know it has a surge protection light that was on after our lightning strike. At which point I had to turn off the powerboard and turn it back on to clear that light and for the powerboard to start working again normally. As for it's surge rating… honestly cant say for sure, I dont have the original packaging, it may have been written there.

        • 900 Joules of surge protection

    • in a good better best, click is what they call cheap, it is bunnings black and gold quality which offers no protection, as I have had to destroy many click branded things that had their plastic melt under sun light as an employee of bunnings for safety reasons.

  • What makes these so expensive? Surely a bit of copper and plastic doesn't become $40 for no reason.

They also include connected device insurance so if their powerboard fails to protect the device you can make a claim (not that I have ever needed to, they work a treat)

Only apply if you don't have content insurance.

        • Fark. I bought 2 of these thinking I might avoid my excess ifnitems plugged into this got fried by lightning (again).
All I saw on the website was you're not eligible if:

Repair or replacement of the damaged equipment is covered under the manufacturer’s warranty

But now I see this in the actual policy:

repair or replacement of the damaged Connected Equipment is covered by a third party’s manufacturer’s warranty, a seller’s extended warranty, or your insurance policy

  • $44 at Amazon, the Bunnings lady kindly price beat by 10%

  • Use perks $10 coupon to reduce more after price match at JB 👍🏻

    • My understanding is that you can only use the Perks $10 Voucher only once - from when joining at JB.

      • You will receive another one in your birthday month.
Also, you can create more accounts if you have more SIM, and sign up for perks

  • Got a few of these when they were $20 a few years ago.
    Still using them.

WTF, I swear they used to be lifetime warranty with $50-100k protection, now just 2 yrs warranty????

I used to buy them from dick smith when they still had a storefront!

    • I recall that. I wonder if anyone claimed protection of fried electronics — is it even possible if you have basic surge and spike protection to damage electronics anymore?

A lot of comments on here saying these are way too bulky, can someone please suggest an alternative for a decent price? I don’t want it to take up too much space in my entertainment unit. Thanks

Edit: I found this with good reviews. Any thoughts about this ? Not a big name brand but way thinner and features seem similar/better.

The best I've ever used is the CyberPower 8-port surge protected powerboard. It is rated to a far higher standard than this Belkin - 2750 joules (versus only 900 with this Belkin powerboard). Plenty of websites state that you need at least 1,000 to 2,000 joules of protection for small electronic devices (printers, copiers, phones, cheaper laptops etc) and over 2,000 joules for bigger electronic devices (more expensive laptops, desktops, TVs, home theatre etc). For example, that is what Anker recommends, and they're one of the most reputable charging companies in the world (see here). You can find plenty of websites stating same.

Whereas this Belkin powerboard is only rated to 900 joules! I just don't understand how it is so highly rated. Not only that, but their "warranty" for items damaged by lightning strikes etc is more or less useless (if you have contents insurance). Whereas the CyberPower - or similar, from a reputable brand - will protect your items from the beginning. This Belkin has since been replaced with a newer version. But it is expensive for what it is, still only comes with 900 joules of protection, although it does have USB-C ports.

The CyberPower doesn't have USB-C, which sucks, but otherwise, it has been a dream to use, and I have like… six of them scattered throughout my house. They're a very reputable brand. One of them is for my monitor (a 4K 27" dell worth $800), printer/scanner, and MacBook Pro (again, worth well over $2,000). Another is for my OLED + Xbox Series X. I have no issues, and they've all survived a lightning strike. So yes. I would highly recommend the CyberPower. I'm trusting it to protect thousands of dollars of gear.

Not in any way affiliated with that brand! There are plenty of stores you can get it from - but Centre Com currently has it for only $25 (see e.g. here). Amazon has it for $28 (see here). That is insanely cheap! With outstanding reviews in general, including 4.7 on Amazon from 628 reviews.

I wouldn't trust that Amazon powerboard at all. It only comes with - again - 900 joules of protection - which just isn't enough. That is objectively the case. Not only that, but it's some random brand, and I find that Amazon products like that just… fail to last the distance. Certainly not when you're plugging it in and praying it will protect your electronics. Just food for thought! 🙂

  • I recall that the TGG commercial is a bit cheaper?
