  • only works with usb-c alt mode , right ?

  • -8

    Nah no

  • -1

Would be amazing if you could get this to work with the Nintendo Switch.

  • Good product, but looks some users said that it's not supporting Mac now. can anyone confirm?

    • +4

I've purchased one myself. I have a colleague using a Mac - will try it on her laptop and report back.

        Dear God- Lam,

What is the maths homework for today?

        Thank you very much,
        A Concerned Student.

          Dear Concerned Student,

Your homework tonight is on Financial Mathematics, OzBargain edition.

          HW question:

What taxation benefit has Mr Lam gained if he salary sacrifices this Lenovo ThinkVision M14t, if he pays a marginal tax rate of 37%?

      • Thanks, waiting for your reply.

(PS: if it doesn't work via Plug'n'Play, can you google if anyone has come up with a side-fix, Cheers!)

  • +2

Looks good and far superior to previous portable Lenovo screens I've used, but then now that my role doesn't involve sitting at client sites for months, I guess I no longer have a need for this :(

    • +2

Went from 2 horrible screens at the client site to VDI cooped up at home with my two amazing monitors and comfy m+k.

      Feeling this heavy rn

Some unknowns are whether it is PWM free or not, and whether it is gloss or not. If it were matte glass and PWM free, then it'd be really good. The bad part is the lack of a completely flat mode for pen input, and the use of Wacom AES technology instead of Wacom EMR. If it were EMR, then it'd be like a cintiq. Wacom AES is way worse for jitter compared to Wacom EMR.

      • +1

@happychappy1: Could you translate that in to how that would effect someone in the real world please? I'm thinking of getting a tablet to take notes while we WFH but is this a decent alternative? Im hoping there might be a decent deal on Samsung EPP for thr new S7 Tab in August but this is an interesting proposition.

        • +1

Matte screen and PWM-free would be helpful for your eyes.
Flat mode means you can lay it flat on the desk (like all other tablets) so inputting using the stylus will not be awkward.

I think this one only support connecting to your laptop/phone using a cable, so it would be less convenient than a tablet.

However, the plus is it's much bigger than an S7 tab (10 inches?).

        • +2

Very different products though - one is a portable monitor which requires to be physically connected via a cable to power/computer (i.e. it's more of a stationary device once you set it up) vs a tablet which is designed to be used on it's own wherever (subject to wireless internet access). The only caveat on the latter is though since it's a device in itself, you may need to consider whether or not it's appropriate or permitted for use for work purposes (depending on what type of work you do), as well as whether it's supported by your company if you need to connect it to their network.

Jitter is most often noticeable when drawing slow diagonal lines, if the jitter was strong the line would not be straight. However, recent AES pen displays have gotten a lot better at regarding reducing the jitter so I would either wait for reviews or just buy it if your use case doesn't involve slow writing/drawing.

          • @cobra98: That explains why drawing diagonal lines on my Surface Pro 3 with the Surface Pen was impossible. I gave up and reverted back to using a dedicated tablet.

      • The hinges look similar to the ones on Yoga line. I believe it supports flat mode

        • it just folds in, but that leaves half of it unsupported. I've got the original and it does the same thing.

  • Is this matte or gloss? Is there a glass cover on it, considering it supports pen input as well?

    • It's a 10pt capacitive touch + stylus input so it will likely have glossy oleophobic surface just like you'd expect from a tablet or laptop touchscreen

      • Wacom Cintiq Pro is matte, chemically etched glass, and it supports touch. Given that the original ThinkVision M14 was matte, you'd hope this was also matte. One can only dream :).

        • I've never even seen a wacom. Are they good for note taking? Maybe that is the way to go instead if a tablet? I already have a great monitor.

          • @C0mbat: They're very good for notetaking. Albeit, they cost a bit more, but the pens don't require batteries. All the Wacom tablets have matte surfaces which are supposed to replicate drawing on paper.

Don't need but for some reason want…

  • -5

At this price you can probably get a 4K version

    • +3

this comment goes well with another one about carrying a 86" tv on a bus.

  • +2

How's the quality of the pen's responsiveness on something like this? I assume it's a long way off an actual Cintiq or the like but would be interested to hear. Is it closer to an early 2000's PDA where drawing would basically be impossible or closer to a Galaxy Note which is remarkably usable?

I have to do occasional design tasks for work so a cheap alternative like this could be useful.

    • +1

It's closer to a laptop with an active digitiser like a Lenovo Yoga. It looks like the same or similar screen to the X1 Yoga FHD version (14", ~300cd/m2). Those have a lot of jitter, especially when you're trying to draw a diagonal line or making slow movements. Whereas a Wacom EMR based tablet or display (like a Cintiq) is smoother. The Galaxy Note tablets use Wacom EMR as well.

      • +1

Cool, will probably not jump on this one then. Thanks for the detailed reply!

  • -3

I think I could buy a laptop with a screen like that for that price lol.

    • +2

      Ahhh no you couldn't.

      • -4

My refurb laptop from 4 years ago for $600 had a 13" IPS touch screen, I wouldn't call this a stretch.

        • +2

With active stylus support? Those need dedicated hardware.

          • +2

@Wonderfool: And comparing a Refurb price to a new price, so assuming the new price of the refurb is say $800-900 (otherwise why would bother going refurb), it's a much different equation.

        • +2

But that laptop is heavier and cannot function as a 2nd screen without fumbling around with software. In any case, this product is not meant for you since a laptop serves a different function to this monitor. I agree it's a niche product, and a laptop covers a lot of what this can do, but people who are looking for this screen want something a laptop cannot do.

          • -2

@shiny1: My point is that it's expensive for the hardware given, not that a laptop would be practical. But I guess that's just how it goes with these niche items.

  • Anyone know if this is compatible with Samsung dex?

Been looking for a touch screen this size to use with my phone on the go for some light productivity

Edit: I have a galaxy note 10 plus

    • +1

Samsung dex should work with any monitor as long as you have enough power, personally this sounds great to make notes with if you want a secondary setup for education. If there is no battery in this then you might need a power bank.

      • Thanks for the response! Sounds good indeed and I was eyeing some cheaper Chinese generic options for awhile but will probably note the bullet on this

    • +1

Have the m14 monitor from last year and can confirm that Samsung dex works. Also works with just about all smart phones.

      • Except Google Pixels as Google disabled video over usb-c on their supposed flagship devices, likely to help push adoption of their proprietary chromecast devices and protocol.

      • Thanks for the response! Exactly the anecdote I was hoping to hear

  • I have the older non touch model and it's awesome. Managed to haggle them down to $315 over the phone.

    • $315 for this one or the old one ?

      • $315 for the M14, not M14T, wasn't available when I ordered (plus I didn't need touch anyway). The Levono screens are awsome for the money, even better display to look at than my Dell Lattitude 14 IPS screen. It sits in my bag and I really don't even notice it, but when at a client it super handy. The only minor gripe is you can use it in portrait view.

      • It's $303 now for the old one (M14) on the education store.

        • I got mine over a year ago! Plus I don't have an edu account so I won't miss the $12 difference.

    • I didn't need the touch capability and was able to request a lower price via their online chat.

      Got it at 295.36 ..

  • +2

Thanks OP I just ordered one. Now I just need my new Lenovo T14 AMD laptop to hurry up and arrive to go with it.

  • Is it possible to connect a DVD player to these like with a USB C to HDMI cable adapted?

    • Nope, the ports are based on DisplayPort technology, and it requires USB Power Delivery to power up. Unless your DVD player supports DisplayPort…

  • Active pen is now superseded by Active Pen 2

    • +1

I have both - and I'll test both out and report back :)

  • Curious and had a look around at eBay and found this…
    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/383483456221

Not sure they are the same as it's missing a "t" from the M14, but at $379.31 after 15% eBay Plus member discount.

    • That’s expensive. It’s 303 on the Lenovo site (at least it is for students). I paid $270 after Cash back.

  • How much is this in the education or small business store ?

    • Same price on both from what I can see

  • Now waiting for Cashrewards tightarse to bring us a 14-15% cashback offer and a special $399 OzBargain pricing :D (This seems to be the volume enterprise pricing for these now :P)

  • Anybody got a better quote with a Lenovo Pro or Business account ? Best I have got is around $430, I think $399 should be doable if you order 2 pieces or more

    • Really? Damn my partner's account must not be a lenovo pro/ business then cos it's coming up as the same price.
      $430 is with lenovo pro???

  • Just purchased this 3 days ago. Took until today before it was finally shipped out. Call centre was bad, feels like after sale support for this will be crap. Product is being sent by DHL straight from Shenzen China.
Kind of regret buying this, fingers cross product is better than service.

    • Mine is stuck in Hong Kong awaiting the next flight out - it was shipped very quickly, but has been stuck in HKG for 3 days.

  • +1

I received mine yesterday, and it's beautiful. Feels a lot lighter than I expected and looks so much better than a bulky traditional monitor. I don't do any graphics work, I just need a secondary monitor as my original one has been occupied by hubby since we started WFH in March.

The only downside is it doesn't work with my personal Yoga 530 because the USB C on the Yoga is a Gen 1 data transfer one I believe. It does work perfectly with my work laptop though (thank goodness).

This might be the wrong place to ask but does anyone know if there is any way to connect an older style laptop to a screen with USB C DP Alt Mode only? There are a lot of adapters to go the other way around (USB C to monitor with HDMI) but not the way I just described. Reading online seems to indicate this is difficult due to the signal conversion, but if some techy pros can confirm or provide some more advice here, that will be great!

    • Hi @zippyRoo, when did you order yours? Mine was stuck in Hong Kong for 5 full calendar days (Wednesday to Sunday!), presumably no flights out here capable of taking the freight :(

      • I ordered on Tuesday, 28 July, and it was sent out the following day on Wednesday. Mine seemed to progress quite normally but there seemed to be a slight delay (a day or so) after arriving in Melbourne.

  • +2

Bummer. Intro price now expired. Back to $599 :(

    • Good news - the Active Pen 2 stylus purchased separately works with the M14t. The stylus provided with the monitor works on a X1 Yoga :)
    • Some pics of the unboxing
    • The display works on a Mac, but not the touch or stylus. 🤦‍♂️
    • Very thin and very light.
    • To some extent, the external design gives you a feeling it's the X1 Yoga Gen 4's screen just ripped off the body
    • Still can get it for the intro price if you buy via online chat :D

    • "I am really sorry, $479.21 is the final price including GST and delivery. "(From the online chat). I was bragging for a further 10% discount with no luck.

  • Just ordered one from edu store for $479.21 - estimated shipping time = 8 weeks.
