      Lowly specs? The specs can be considered on-par with many of the unlocked $180+ phones out there like the Huawei Sonic. Except this has 512mb of RAM rather than just 250MB. It even has a fairly large 1500mah battery.

      I find this hard to recommend though, knowing that the Acer Liquid can be had for $128 (but have to unlock yourself).

        Acer Liquid is locked to Telstra and Optimus One is unlocked.
        LG Optimus One is a great phone. I've had it for a year and it works just fine.

          when the acer is so easy(and free!) to unlock it doesn't matter anymore, i wish all locked phones were this easy, but i wouldn't be surprised if telstra fixed this loophole soon

    It really hard to get support for any Android phone under $400 on OzB while the Liquid MT is on offer so cheaply.

      Just a brief look through the specs shows that Acer Liquid has ONLY 256 MB RAM compared to 512 MB for Otpimus One.
      Also Acer doesn't support smart dialling and no DivX or XviD video support.
      So it's not that good after all…
      I will stick to Opimus One then.

        Acer Liquid Metal 512mb RAM, 800mhz CPU, Adreno 205, sold by JB Hifi.

        Acer Liquid 256MB RAM, 768mhz CPU, Adreno 200. Not sold in Aus.

        Are 2 different models.

    Good deal. Cheap price. But the Liquid Metal is a much better device as said by others. Much better 800 x 480 screen res and 3.6" screen. Adreno 205 GPU (Also used in the Desire HD) and an 800MHz second gen snapdragon CPU.

    Off topic, but can the Liquid Metal's CPU be OC'ed? Is there a custom kernel yet?

      Someone said that Acer has released the kernal source, so maybe there will be one. check the Modaco forums.
