That being said, I think I was under the impression I always had free return shipping through ParcelPost for Amazon US supplied items (under Prime) but looks like maybe we aren't.

          • @jace88: I've had to return an item to the US and I think they only cover up to $40 postage

            • @johnnytran: Does ParcelPoint come under this or would it be at your own shipping cost/effort?

              • @jace88: I have no idea what parcelpoint is tbh but I’d assume so - in my case I just got onto chat a few days after postage and told them I’ve posted it back and it costed x and I think they refunded the amount I said without asking for a receipt/proof of postage.. could be different depending on the person you get though

  • Whats the difference between this one and this one? https://www.amazon.com.au/10TB-Desktop-External-Drive-WDBBGB…

    • +1

Great pickup. My book has an extra 1 year warranty, making it 3 years instead of 2 for the elements. It also comes with better software like hardware encryption. It’s a better buy than the elements and cheaper too!

  • If I were to buy one now and shuck, would buying another for RAID later down the track mean I have to transfer the stuff off the original drive? Ie I would need two blank drives to create a RAID? Synology box, if it matters

    • Using SHR - Synology RAID?

      • Open to all options currently… Just don't want to end up with 10TB of data on a drive and then realise I'll need to put that 10TB somewhere else before I can utilise that drive in a redundant setup

        • +1

You’ll have to remove the data off the drive if you’re going to use it in a raid. It’ll delete everything on it.

Im unsure on other raid types, but i currently have 1 drive operating in my synology NAS using SHR - no redundancy. When i buy the second drive, i will just put it straight in and it will act as redundancy, no data loss on the first drive. Im pretty sure most other raid types are like this as well.

This video shows how easy it is on a synology > https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5wMBjSRYhlQ

  • Has anyone's order actually shipped yet?

    • Mine has arrived today.
The drive itself is WD101EMAZ. Not sure whether it's WD Red in White label or not.

I am still eyeing for a good NAS deal. :)

    • June 4 Ordered
      June 12 Shipped
      June 23 Arrived

Pretty slow for expedited shipping but it arrived in perfect condition and even Fastway miraculously did a decent job. Arrived in Sydney on Saturday and delivered to the Gold Coast today. They even knocked on the door lol.

For a few days I thought I got it for free as well. My card was charged and had a hold for the $300 when I purchased but then the hold dropped off after about ten days. A couple of days after I received shipping notification my card was charged.
